Anybody taking the 7+ exam this year? I have noticed there isn't a thread on it this year. We are going to be trying for St Paul's and Kings. At the moment we are really struggling with the comprehension. Anybody else in the same boat?

@Curiousma don’t think he managed to finish composition… a bit worried. Sounds no section is easy

Hi,

Just to give little background. We had a plan to move city that’s why we didn’t started preparation early.

Plan of moving city is now cancelled that’s why we started preparing our son for **7plus exam. He is sitting kings, st. paul’s and westminister.

DS started preparation 1 1/2 month ago.

DS gave King’s 7 plus test today. He seems to be very happy. He did few past papers last week to boost his confidence.

I’m not sure what to expect in St. paul’s test. Can anyone please explain what’s expected dictation level? Is there any past paper available online?

Big thanks in advance!

I’m surprised there was no NVR, never heard they are not included in the Kings test!
My DS said the dictation was played only once and quite fast, he barely managed to write it down!
St Paul’s dictation shouldn’t be at very fast pace, from what I heard and what I hope for.

My dd didn’t manage to finish dictation Confused. Such a shame as many of the boys will be 6 and very hard for them to write so fast. Seems like it’s getting so hard to prepare for these types of exams and things change quite a lot from year to year. Particularly hard for us as not in pre prep and we didn’t get a tutor - but did prep him ourselves using exam papers plus. Not sure how helpful that was now!

Nani72008 · 13/11/2021 20:16

From what I gather, the kings maths paper seemed to be much harder than the sample online or others - anyone else feel the same?

I can’t seem to find any past paper

Superworriedmum · 13/11/2021 20:23

What dictation level is expected for st. paul’s 7 +?

Superworriedmum · 13/11/2021 20:48

Is there no creative writing for st. paul’s 7 plus?

Shehr · 13/11/2021 21:01

No creative writing at St Paul's in the first round. Their English test includes a dictation and a comprehension with mcqs

@Superworriedmum there are no past papers for St Paul's

We might expect the same level of questions/tasks as at Kings, since these two schools are from the same league.
First round is Maths, comprehension, dictation and reasonings (Verbal and non-verbal).

Oh yes, king’s past paper is ages old, so many things have changed since it was uploaded…

Really appreciate. Thanks everyone for replying.

JamnBiscuits · 13/11/2021 23:56

Am surprised the boys weren't allowed out to play and had to sit the whole 3 hours except for loo visits. Does anyone know why?

2minutesplease · 14/11/2021 00:25

My son said they were allowed out, but not to play. He chatted with a classmate from a different group.

Superworriedmum · 14/11/2021 00:50

My son was telling me that he played with other kid during his break time today

Nani72008 · 14/11/2021 06:50

Thanks 2minutesplease.

2minutesplease · 14/11/2021 08:25

Does anyone know for sure if Kings will be sending results by post only without duplicating results by email? Will we know on Wed or Thursday the 25th?

Same here, they only had 5 mins break during which they ate their snack. They kept them in the classroom and had to sit all the time. Must have been running late with exam.
Shehr · 14/11/2021 08:49

Does anyone know what weight is given to each stage plus the headmaster reference? It seems my DS did much better in the interview and the activity than yesterday. Also does the headmaster reference count at all?

@2minutesplease from my understanding it's just post not an email.

@shehr I do think that the exam is probably a big factor in the decision but I heard that sometimes children who do well in exam but v badly in group activity, won’t be offered a place. I think it sounds like the exam was incredibly hard for all the boys so it’s really difficult to tell how well they’ve really done. Plus you don’t need to get 90/100 per cent. I think possibly over 70 per cent across the board?

Nani72008 · 14/11/2021 09:07

Yes, I believe it’s post - so should arrive on 25th.

Jesse21plus · 14/11/2021 11:20

I was also surprised to hear some groups were kept in classroom for 3 hours and thought they would be allowed to play outside a bit during the break. Hard to imagine even I could sit there for 3 hours

Shehr · 15/11/2021 09:13

What is everyone doing with their DS in the last few days before St Paul's? After the Kings exams I am a bit anxious that the St Paul's exams will be equally hard if not more.
