Is it considered slovenly to write names on everything or do I have to sew labels on like a saddo?

I have written names on so far for dd1 but she only had coat/gloves/scarf combo for playgroup

School 'strongly recommend sewn in labels'

will my card be marked as Sloth if I send her in with marker pen tags on her cardigan?

My Mum was either a complete genius at naming us or this was an accident (the latter I suspect). My eldest brother is Matthew John, and my 2nd brother Jamie, so she got Matthew J [surname] labels and cut off Matthew for Jamie's clothes. It worked again for me and db3 - Nicholas Andrew and me, Abi - snip off Nicholas and you're left with A [surname].

Good eh?

This doesn't help AT ALL, it just always makes me smile.

Incidentally, I will be using pen! One of those marvellous new Sharpies that are always on the ads, perhaps

I'm not too brilliant at sewing, but I do sew names on the 'big' things like blazers which will last years. The ordinary things like socks and white t-shirts I write on or do iron-on labels.

Ohhoho snow, you may have just converted me! That website is a bit exciting, and dd would love to choose her own

PhoenixSongbird · 18/07/2007 14:27

Yet again I use the as a kind of rubs chin ponderously hmm, not a sceptical hmm, but it comes across wrong. I wasn't being sarky

oliveoil · 18/07/2007 14:30

Sewed all labels in for reception, but now in Year 1 and am writing name in biro.
Even better, DS wrote his own name on the label the other day, so I don't even have to do that now.
Minilables are great, have used the self adhesive ones on shoes and they stayed put. Also seems that shoes are most likely to get mixed up cos there only seem to be about 4 different styles taht all the kids are wearing, and they take them on and off a lot.
Unluckily Ds has just joined Beavers and i have got a world of sewing to do to get all his badges on his uniform.

fortyplus · 18/07/2007 14:32

oliveoil - I am a self confessed saddo! Go on - they l-o-v-e their own labels! I've still got most of them left and ds1 is nearly 14!

oliveoil · 18/07/2007 14:34

ChudleyMintonCanons · 18/07/2007 14:37

Can I point dh in this direction when he queries the madness of labels and me moaning about sewing them on and huffing in a few weeks?
