Is it considered slovenly to write names on everything or do I have to sew labels on like a saddo?

I have written names on so far for dd1 but she only had coat/gloves/scarf combo for playgroup

School 'strongly recommend sewn in labels'

will my card be marked as Sloth if I send her in with marker pen tags on her cardigan?

for lunch box and shoes (there are very few shoe shops to choose from here so many end up in the same size and style shoes)

'simply stuck' sticky labels and the clear shoe stickers to go over them have lasted all year

coddy · 18/07/2007 15:04

what the coevr like?

stealthsquiggle · 18/07/2007 15:04

We use stickers for lunch boxes, water bottles, book bags, bottles etc for nursery, and shoes - although DS's shoes lasted so long the name wore off, but I refused to buy the special thingys to stick over the labels in shoes - there is saddo and then there is super-saddo

coddy · 18/07/2007 15:04

It depends whether you got the money to pay for a new set of school uniform every five minutes.

Sewn in labels don't get washed out, unlike laundry pen or iron labels. Also they are easy for little ones to read. Expecting a child to read some parent's writing is not a reception level skill.

Its a hideous job though.

oliveoil · 18/07/2007 15:05

(I did, will bump)

Humph - free? from where? not fair!!

Probably academic, since we have 10+ years supply of name tapes for both DC so ordering more labels simply in order to get label covers may be a false economy

mumofSlytherinsmonsters · 18/07/2007 15:07

its only a hideous job once though isn't? then probably a couple of items a school year as they grow.

Can you tell i have yet to do mine

fsmail · 18/07/2007 16:19

I have been using one of those special pens for clothes for three years and not lost one item of clothing.

snowleopard · 18/07/2007 16:43

It's a lovely job... with a glass of wine, the telly on, feet up on the sofa and doing all the little stitches... it's BLISS

Bounder · 18/07/2007 17:43

I enjoy it too, very satisfying (am a bit sad)

charmkin · 18/07/2007 17:50

sew them on
pen comes off in wash
