Is it considered slovenly to write names on everything or do I have to sew labels on like a saddo?

I have written names on so far for dd1 but she only had coat/gloves/scarf combo for playgroup

School 'strongly recommend sewn in labels'

will my card be marked as Sloth if I send her in with marker pen tags on her cardigan?

Jenkeywerewolf:

The iron-on woven labels from easy2name.com are great as they look as 'stylish' as sew-on ones yet you only have to iron them on which I find much quicker.

@all: dcs surname has only 3 letters so doing a surname only label looks a bit 'short' (at least for the iron-on wovens- probably it would look better on a larger size Cash's one but then I'm too lazy to sew... What do you think? Sometimes I cut the first name away to make a surname-only label for ds3 but it looks very strange... not quite like the Storm F. C. one, lol

Ok so I have read the whole thread!

Think im going to order from easy2name, DD starts school in september. I really like the iron on transfers! But i understand what you mean about the sew in ones being better. I have to name everything though, even socks and underwear so I am wondering what is best for those?

Just to add to this madness and yes I have read the whole thread too

My DS1 is about to start reception, he attended the preschool so I have from Easy2Name

  1. iron on woven tapes (they do come off but you can sew them in)

  2. Iron on tapes - fantastic IMO

  3. Iron on transfers for socks etc - they are good too

BUT I have discovered a fab site - www.stuckonyou.biz

They do bag tags (have one it is fantastic as all the kids at the school have the school bag so we can easily spot my son's) and their "shoe dots" which are sticky labels for pencil case etc but come with clear covers for shoes.

I don't care if I am sad, I love stuff like this, I am also a fan of Anthea Turner's Perfect Housewife and I am proud!!!

I'm going to get my mil to sew in all of ds' labels when she comes over from Australia in 3 weeks' time (well, she needs something to keep her occupied )

I got easy2name iron-on labels about 3 years ago and not one lasted more than about 3 washes - useless imo - we've gone for woven, sew-in ones this time round

I've sewn in 3 cash's tapes and gone back to them to order iron in ones .

Weird logic here can anyone understand it because I certainly don't. Dh doesn't think we should have a cleaner, I work about 7 hours a week less than dh, so apparently I'm supposed to be able to do all the cleaning in that time (ignoring the fact that actually I work "part-time" for the benefit of extra time with our dc's). HOWEVER, apparently I'm mad to be thinking of sewing in the name tapes, I should "pay someone else to do it".

Why is it OK to pay someone to do nametapes and not cleaning ?
