3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ Support thread 2019

mumteacher · 29/09/2018 23:54

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. 🤝

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas👏🏼

(Roll on 2019!) 😉

Channing letters in!

isitwinetimeyet16 · 15/01/2019 14:42

Does anyone know what the callback ratio to initial applications is for Channing?

Timeofyear · 16/01/2019 17:35

No idea on the numbers but suspect it must be similar for all the schools?

isitwinetimeyet16 · 16/01/2019 19:01

Hi @mumteacher would you have any advice for the round 2 assessments at NLCS and Channing? Thank you in advance for staying on these threads!

Serena70 · 17/01/2019 17:09

Does anyone please know what is expected at 3+ assessments for schools such as Yorke Hose and Caldicott.
Is there anyting in particular the child should be able to do at that age?

RunRunMum · 17/01/2019 19:10

Does anyone know how many children were called back for round 2 at nlcs this yr?

Perpetuallytired2 · 17/01/2019 20:50

We were under the impression that it was 100 girls......

Perpetuallytired2 · 17/01/2019 20:52

My daughter was there this morning. I’m not looking forward to the wait.

Sharonpae · 17/01/2019 22:43

Is the 2nd round for 4+NLCS today and tomorrow? when is the final decision made?

Perpetuallytired2 · 18/01/2019 00:12

Yes, today and tomorrow. The offers are posted on the 28th. Does any one know if it’s an actual posted letter, or is it an email?

Timeofyear · 18/01/2019 00:13

@sharonpae - yes today and tomorrow, although on another thread someone had mentioned that there were some assessments next week?

Offers to be sent on the 28th I think. Sounded like it would come in the post so guessing results would be received on 29th.

Bumblebeeeee · 18/01/2019 07:52

Mrs Newman said it would be an email but as she likes formalising things there would be a posted result as well.

Omasa · 18/01/2019 08:05

I’ve been wondering this too. Does offer letters on 28th mean we receive them on the Monday (so they are posted on the Saturday) or do we receive them on Tuesday 29th - in which case we have to go a whole other day without not knowing

IcelandicCoffee · 18/01/2019 11:16

Hi there - Channing said they would let us know the outcome by email on 29 January. So I guess that schools using post will send letters on 28 January with the aim that all results come in on the 29th. Feels like a long wait!

Timeofyear · 18/01/2019 12:50

@isitwinetimeyet16 - I have heard for NLCS it’s physical exercises, listening to a story and singing a song. I’ve never really heard anout what happens for Channing.

Timeofyear · 18/01/2019 12:51

And yes the wait feels so long!!

Silver1504 · 18/01/2019 13:54

Is anyone waiting for JAPS 7plus results?

lonmum1234 · 18/01/2019 18:47

Does anyone know how many children were selected for round 2 at nlcs... @perpetually tired2 is that an official source? We had ours today and I heard the number selected was 120?

lonmum1234 · 18/01/2019 18:48

Just want to know odds...as if that helps!

Perpetuallytired2 · 18/01/2019 19:28

@lonmum1234 the number of 100 is from NLCS’s website and literature. But I guess it could be subject to change. When we visited the school in action day last year, we did notice that one of “reception” classes had 24 pupils, instead of 20. Maybe they make allowances if it’s a strong year......wishful thinking perhaps!

Fitnessfanatic108 · 19/01/2019 00:09

hi @omasa - nlcs post on monday 28 jan so successful candidates will get BOTH post and email on tuesday 29 jan . last year their email systems were down so we got our offer over the phone as we didn’t receive post either.

i hear they called back 110 this year -

there aren’t 24 in either of the current reception classes - one has 21 the other has 22 as they over offered last year with more acceptances and than they had anticipated

lonmum1234 · 19/01/2019 07:19

Thank you. Any ideas how many applied in the first place.... I find it hard to understand how they choose who goes through based on just cutting and colouring. Perhaps round 2 is the more decisive round. Do ncls wait list many

Fitnessfanatic108 · 19/01/2019 08:00

hi @lonmum1234 it’s around 250 that apply - they have a small reserve list and last year they didn’t need to go to the reserve list. from memory- the year before they did go to the reserve list. i haven’t been keeping up with this thread this year but congrats to you and your daughter for getting this far, good luck for the 29th x

RunRunMum · 19/01/2019 08:25

They were over 320 applications this yr and about 110 called back

lonmum1234 · 19/01/2019 12:19

Thank you.. And good luck to all of us. I think it as much luck as anything else. Thanks for the info.. Its so hard to know the exact numbers as everyone says differing things.... One mum said to us there were only 230 applicants this year and apparently that came from someone at ncls. Guess at the end of the day need to just be patient! Such a long time to wait!
