3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ Support thread 2019

mumteacher · 29/09/2018 23:54

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. 🤝

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas👏🏼

(Roll on 2019!) 😉

Yes good luck to everyone.

Cakeandeatingit · 19/01/2019 14:21

Has anyone heard back yet from any of the Dulwich schools? Interviews are meant to be next Saturday and still no word...

Timeofyear · 19/01/2019 14:53

@lonmum1234 agree with you that there is an element of luck! But yes good luck to all - let the waiting commence!

sevenplusquery · 19/01/2019 18:16

cakeandeatingit - no word from Dulwich College here. Their letter said letters sent 18th Jan but nothing in the post this morning. Assumed that was just my post - but interested to know if others have / haven't heard?

Timeofyear · 20/01/2019 14:57

Anyone’s daughter doing Channing tomorrow?

isitwinetimeyet16 · 20/01/2019 15:07

Yes! We're in first thing. Are you?

Timeofyear · 20/01/2019 17:39

Yes same. I know they are giving all the summer borns the early slot but I wouldn’t have minded not being the first slot of the day!

isitwinetimeyet16 · 20/01/2019 18:47

How funny! Hopefully we'll end up chatting. I'll be drinking all the black coffee!

isitwinetimeyet16 · 22/01/2019 06:01

How did yours go, @Timeofyear? My DD mentioned bean bag throwing and singing a song!

Timeofyear · 22/01/2019 09:35

Yes she mentioned throwing and I did see a bunch of them singing after they were brought back out. The Channing Mum serving coffee said they were looking at their social skills this round. Now here comes the waiting!

FreeSpiritWithin · 22/01/2019 09:45

My son gave his 2nd round of assessment for UCS pre-prep and we are waiting to find out on the 30th Jan if he has got through. I asked him repeatedly about what he did in there but all he said was "I drew a fire engine with a spider web"!! I laughed a lot.
If anyone else's son who sat the assessment knows what they had to do, please do let me know. I just want to know what his results will be based on.

CanAnyMother · 24/01/2019 08:16

FreeSpirit my son told me he drew a magic potato transporter. He was clutching the actual picture as he left, and it was rainbow coloured assortment of scribbles. However he seemed to really enjoy it and keeps talking about going back. Although if they were looking for draftsmanship I am not sure that he will get the chance... Wink

FreeSpiritWithin · 24/01/2019 08:36

CanAnyMother Thank you so much for getting back to me. Potato transporter is a brilliant concept - an inventor for the future! :) Fingers crossed both our sons get through.
I was wondering what are your thoughts about them having to sit for the 7+ exams? I am trying to manage logistics as we live in Chiswick and so if my son gets through, it will be 30mins drive for him in the morning and evening.

Sharonpae · 24/01/2019 17:17

Hi everyone anyone who did the 4+ assessment check your emails Kensington pre prep have sent their admission confirmation for your daughters.

nldnmum · 24/01/2019 19:48

Hello everyone, not sure how I missed this thread. DD is doing 7+ in north London and we are waiting for the results to come out on 28th. The suspense is killing us... glad I found this support thread Blush

isitwinetimeyet16 · 24/01/2019 20:33

Hi @nldnmum ! Which schools is she applying to?

nldnmum · 24/01/2019 21:29

@isitwinetimeyet16 habs, nlcs and highgate. What about your DC?

isitwinetimeyet16 · 25/01/2019 05:11

Ah that's interesting! I didn't realise NLCS had a 7+ entry! My DD is doing 5+ at Channing and NLCS as well. I'd much rather she went to Highgate but she's at a prep school/nursery that only goes to 7 and I don't want to put all my eggs in the Highgate-shaped basket! Good luck to your DD, when are you due to find out?

RunRunMum · 25/01/2019 10:30

@isitwinetimeyet i didnt know nlcs did 5+ either i thought it was 4+ and 7+. Were there a lot of aplicants?

Pyracantha1 · 25/01/2019 11:40

So we heard back from Thomas's Kensington this morning and it was a no. Feel quite upset as we still don't have a definite place anywhere. It would have been nice knowing we had one secure place.

nldnmum · 25/01/2019 14:20

@isitwinetimeyet16 I didn't know nlcs has 5+ either. We find out 28th onwards

isitwinetimeyet16 · 25/01/2019 14:49

Argh typo! Sorry, 4+ my DD is doing. Not 5+!

Sciencelovingmum · 25/01/2019 15:24

Sorry to hear that- my sympathies- 💐I know how you feel. We got a no from KP and Glendower. So disheartening. I wish you the best of luck with finding a school for your DD/ DS

Sciencelovingmum · 25/01/2019 15:25

Sorry that message was for Pyracantha1

nldnmum · 25/01/2019 15:33

@isitwinetimeyet16 ah that makes sense. Good luck to your DD
