Joined it recently, but might have to leave - so depressed at the level of incompetence! This weekend I've seen threads from a teacher of 30+ years who says that phonics is to blame for all her non-readers in Y2, a teacher who wants to know how to collect evidence in Y2 for explaining writers' use of figurative language (don't bother - you're reading the Y6 interim framework, love ) and a teacher who wants advice on dealing with 'figgity' children. And loads if threads asking to be spoonfed to plan EVERYTHING down to the last detail. Or threads that say 'do we have to teach such and such? Where can I find out? Thanks in advance.' READ THE BLOODY CURRICULUM!

I despair over the lack of common sense displayed by some

It's the constant need for validation that gets me - I'm so worried that my display isn't good enough followed by picture of perfectly executed sterile display ... followed by numerous comments about how wonderful it is and what a hard worker/inspirational teacher they must be

The KS2 group is just as bad.

Erm whatever the hell you're meant to be teaching according your ltp/mtp?! I don't get people who try and teach a one off lesson for an observation. Surely it's clear as hell when you look it the books that it's not a progressive week of work?!

I got slated once because someone wanted a whizz bang way to teach subtraction, and I got fed up and said 'Just teach it. They need to watch and listen carefully, sometimes the all singing all.dancing stuff gets in the way of that.' I wasn't being helpful, apparently.

And worse, post about it on the internet the night before, on a page that is hardly private!

Even worse when it's for a job interview!

It's scary that there is a whole generation of teachers who can't come up with an idea and then get on with it.

I know this isn't AIBU, but YANBU!

Part of the reason I give teaching Facebook groups a wide berth.

Having said that, Twinkl is sometimes useful

Well, I left the group this evening and my Y1 teaching group too. I also unsubscribed to various teaching FB pages. Not because of the phonics post but because with my family's blessing I have decided to leave teaching altogether. 😞
Many reasons why but mainly out of my control. I never took much notice of twinkl to be honest. I think I took notice less and less as my trust, pleasure and drive was slowly sucked out of me - all that went with a bang last week.
I hope it isn't forever - time will tell. One day I may find somewhere that isn't as toxic as my current work environment.
In the meantime, I am looking at other projects.

Omg Mrs Cole! Thanks, Hamilton Trust. I bought that a year or two ago for nostalgia purposes. It's not a great book. I've never used it.

The 5/6 one is unbearable at the minute. I saw a thread where someone had marked work saying this is great writing 'for a boy' and got upset when people suggested that wasn't a great thing to write as it 'wasn't supportive'.

Someone had actually written on a child's work that it was great writing for a boy??

I think I need to mention that next time we have a book scrutiny and are told our marking isn't "developmental" enough. It's clearly miles better than some!

I'll admit that every time I went into a charity shop I looked for a copy, just to see how much I could make if I stuck it on Ebay.

The amazon pricing algorithm caused it to go up to a ridiculous price at one point.
