Joined it recently, but might have to leave - so depressed at the level of incompetence! This weekend I've seen threads from a teacher of 30+ years who says that phonics is to blame for all her non-readers in Y2, a teacher who wants to know how to collect evidence in Y2 for explaining writers' use of figurative language (don't bother - you're reading the Y6 interim framework, love Wink) and a teacher who wants advice on dealing with 'figgity' children. And loads if threads asking to be spoonfed to plan EVERYTHING down to the last detail. Or threads that say 'do we have to teach such and such? Where can I find out? Thanks in advance.' READ THE BLOODY CURRICULUM!

And breathe.

Yesss! Surely. Hang on, it's on the tip of my tongue.....

Nat... Nat... Nat...

Nope it's gone. Thought I nearly had it then.

toomuchicecream · 07/12/2016 22:04

In my early days of being on the group (before I got wise and hid it - now I just look at it when I'm very bored and looking for entertainment), I responded to a query about what times tables should be taught in year 1 by saying "Er - none...You skip count in 2s 5s and 10s but no times tables" I got completely flamed for being unsupportive. WTAF???

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 07/12/2016 22:06

WTF?

Let's hope none of them ever wander into AIBU, they'd be eaten alive.

Feenie · 07/12/2016 22:37

They really would, with their pink sparkly feedback ideals. How does a culture spring up like that, because it's definitely not the real world. Maybe it's the twinkl moniker? I might start a Pink Unicorn group as a social experiment. But be really no nonsense and matter of fact and see what happens. At the very least I could guarantee all kids would understand subtraction Grin

Pink Unicorn group basic entry requirements:

  1. passing knowledge of the existance of the ARA
  2. ability to type 'national curriculum into google
IlsaLund · 08/12/2016 20:47

The teacher who has posted a picture of the thank you note she has received for organising the nativity must be a total praise junky! Not content with being thanked on-house she obviously needs the approbation of a bunch of strangers

Grin at draughty window

mrz · 09/12/2016 05:52

I've succumbed! Feenie it's your fault I'm sat here biting my fingers to stop myself replying to the nonsense on the Twinkl forum Halo

ellaballoo · 09/12/2016 06:06

I have hidden the twinkl KS2 forum and am tempted to delete the 3/4 one .
Everyday I have to bite my fingers to stop myself ranting a people who want a FUN way to teach every single fucking thing .

Don't get me started on the bastards who are planning fun lessons at 9pm on a Saturday night .

Feel better for that .

ellaballoo · 09/12/2016 06:19

at people .

Apologies mix of excitement / waking up at 4.30 thinking about maths data .

FabulouslyGlamourousFerret · 09/12/2016 06:42

I thought you were a little harsh on the Twinklites, but I've just read a 'what makes a great TA' post, apparently 'bringing toast in the morning ;) xxxxxxx' is a good quality in a TA!!! ... stay harsh Mumsnet, stay harsh!!

Saucery · 09/12/2016 06:55

A question on how to stick polystyrene cups together? Seriously?
Could always delegate it to a marvellous TA after they have brought you toast and tidied your classroom.

Feenie · 09/12/2016 06:57

Hahahahaha, mrz!

Toast??? Good grief.

I'm going to stand strong. I'm not going to join.

LemonRedwood · 09/12/2016 10:23

I feel Twinkl is getting a bit of a bad rep from this thread. The actual Twinkl website has some very handy resources that have saved me a good few hours through my career. The idiots people who post in their Facebook group with the types of questions that are quite rightly being eye-rolled at here are unfortunately not unique to Twinkl.

Feenie · 09/12/2016 10:29

Indeed - there are many similar groups mentioned here. Think it's the nature of the type of poster to be fair.

Some of the new curriculum Twinkl stuff is quite good.

OP posts:
mrz · 09/12/2016 16:35

And some of the phonics stuff caters for they type of poster who asks stupid questions on the Facebook group

Feenie · 09/12/2016 18:20

Only used the Maths occasionally; but not surprised.

Anyone seen the post about critters? And anyone else too busy, you know, actually teaching to arse about putting critters on and off tables within a lesson???

bretonpuffin · 09/12/2016 20:13

I'm a year 1 parent and have joined the group off the back of this thread.

What I've found particularly depressing are the dreadful literacy levels in a lot of the posts. They can't spell or construct sentences half the time and these are the people teaching our children Confused

Bretonpuffin, the literacy levels depress me also. Point them out? Insupportable bitch. Hence this thread. So glad sanity reigns somewhere in our profession.

I think I meant unsupportive.but the prosecco and the autocorrect conspired against me. Thu, it could have been much worse Grin

And tbh, not thu
