Joined it recently, but might have to leave - so depressed at the level of incompetence! This weekend I've seen threads from a teacher of 30+ years who says that phonics is to blame for all her non-readers in Y2, a teacher who wants to know how to collect evidence in Y2 for explaining writers' use of figurative language (don't bother - you're reading the Y6 interim framework, love Wink) and a teacher who wants advice on dealing with 'figgity' children. And loads if threads asking to be spoonfed to plan EVERYTHING down to the last detail. Or threads that say 'do we have to teach such and such? Where can I find out? Thanks in advance.' READ THE BLOODY CURRICULUM!

And breathe.

You can't ever leave the group now you've started this thread.

Need to learn how to.just nod wisely and post here then, instead of making it obvious by posting there, or they'll be the ones showing me the door!

There are a LOT of Sparklebox recommendations Sad Sometimes I plead no Sparklebox which gets a few likes but lots of younger teachers don't realise. One said in reply that 'just one little click' couldn't hurt' and got jumped on from a great height by a few other posters. Another suggested that he was also on the Twnkl directorship (he isn't) and the whole lot disappeared remarkably quickly!

There's a lot of people who seem to think Twinkl and Sparklebox are linked. I think it's the name.

Now, should someone ask for grammatical examples to use in their class the next day, and someone offers examples that are incorrect, make absolutely sure that you don't assume they would like to know that they've made a mistake and point it out.

It's apparently very mean and several posters will tell you so.

Surely our profession knocks all that out of such special snowflakes? Hmm

Haha Feenie I'm pretty sure I know which post you're talking about a expanded noun phrases by any chance?! I thought about this thread when I read it earlier!

Just make your feedback is always sparkly and sugar-coated!

No wonder teachers are leaving in droves if that's seriously how they want feedback - as grown ups!

Is the KS1 the same in that suddenly things will catch hold and be treated like some sort of revolution? Was label makers earlier in the year, slow writing is being treated as some sort of essential game changer in the Y6 one at the moment,

I joined this group because of this thread and now I'm addicted to it. "Has anyone got any good ideas for nativity, the show is next week and I can't think of anything!" type posts. I wonder if any of them work in my school.

Omg yes I love love : 'class assembly in two days, what can we do it on?'

Also love:
'Job interview tomorrow, 20 mins on whatever I like, can anyone send me some planning?'

You can teach words by sight but thereafter find rhyming words to go with the sight word. So for example, teach j-e-t as a sight word and then teach words rhyming with jet.

Sight words are just as important for reading. I teach using a combination of sight word recognition, phonics and rhyme

Same idiot misguided poster. Sad

Oh please please wise mnetter teachers, educate those teachers who know nothing about education. Otherwise our children's future is doomed.
Feenie, you really need to stay. Otherwise who is going to correct them? And mrz, you need to join too.
