Joined it recently, but might have to leave - so depressed at the level of incompetence! This weekend I've seen threads from a teacher of 30+ years who says that phonics is to blame for all her non-readers in Y2, a teacher who wants to know how to collect evidence in Y2 for explaining writers' use of figurative language (don't bother - you're reading the Y6 interim framework, love Wink) and a teacher who wants advice on dealing with 'figgity' children. And loads if threads asking to be spoonfed to plan EVERYTHING down to the last detail. Or threads that say 'do we have to teach such and such? Where can I find out? Thanks in advance.' READ THE BLOODY CURRICULUM!

And breathe.

Am I missing something wrt moving pencils? Pencils belong in one pot? Surely the only reason to take a pencil from another pot/table is if you don't have one? If you don't have one, go and get one! Confused

mrz · 04/12/2016 18:04

I'm not on Twinkl so can't be sure but think it's related to earlier post about painting the ends of pencils for each group

IlsaLund · 04/12/2016 20:22

Sorry - a few weeks ago on the Twinkl Facebook there was a long and earnest discussion about the fact that children were moving pencils from one table to another so people were coming up with ways of stopping this.
They included painting the ends of each pencil so they were colour coded to a specific pot.

Life's too short, in my class we have lots of pencils and we take them as we need them!

I had to come on here to stop myself from posting on a twinkl group. I have hidden the KS1 one but am on the supply forum. Someone wants help with a starter for a maths observation tomorrow in year 2. Someone has suggested loop cards. That always works well. Hmm

Never a better time to introduce loop cards than during an observation.

The biting one is classic - it includes the obligatory rhetorical question at the end to encourage lot of replies.

rollonthesummer · 05/12/2016 19:33

I blardy hate loop cards!!

Whattodosue · 05/12/2016 20:17

I'm not really posting here because I am an imposter parent and can't join the twinkl debate but what the hell happen to the missing 'e' and surely whilst learning should be fun it is unhelpful not to give children the ability to tackle learning when it isn't fun and I am loving reading the comments of the teachers here. Whilst, as a parent it is a little concerning that common sense appears a rare thing, it is at once worrying and reassuring and amusing to read the comments on this support group, please keep up the twinkl support group

Feenie · 05/12/2016 20:25

Hmm, you make a very good point re that missing 'e'!

Have I just read that right, on one of the aforementioned threads - the gift of Twinkl kindness. Seriously???

OP posts:
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/12/2016 21:23

You need to add white board markers to the lesson plan. Why are there never 30 working whiteboard markers in any observed lesson?

The gift of twinkl kindness sounds very festive. I'm sure one of the Wise men's gifts is a symbol for twinkl kindness.

RandomDent · 06/12/2016 07:36

I have never used loop cards since I was a very new PGCE student who was given a set by get class teacher to "have a go at the starter". Three days of awkward silences and children hissing the answers to each other later, :o she helped me out. I like to think it was an early warning to never ever use them. :o

RandomDent · 06/12/2016 07:40

Oh yes, the biting one. It could be on AIBU. WIBU not to call him the spawn of Satan?

Who dares go on to question her de-escalation techniques? Xmas Wink

I'm on the twinkl early years group and it's just as bad. Someone yesterday was asking for a last minute phonics lesson obs idea and wanted people to suggest three differentiated activities! I'm sorry but if they need spoon feeding to plan a short phonics session then it makes me question their ability to teach Confused

Not to mention the many, many elf posts...

Mistoffelees · 06/12/2016 21:44

I joined the early years and ks1 groups yesterday after reading this thread thinking 'they really can't be that bad', I've unfollowed both of them already.

Feenie · 06/12/2016 21:54

Nothing to do with twinkle, but since lots of teachers on this site, can I ask you a question?

So if I wanted to bring in box of chocolate/biscuit to staff room/ office ladies, when is the best time? Beginning of last week of term? Few days before end of term? And what would you like, for small thank you gift for all the people to share?

Feenie · 07/12/2016 19:08

Honestly, a nice card with a few words is always appreciated. But chocs or biscuits always go down well a few days before the end of term when we are all limping to the finish.

Anyone known where I could find out the expectations for times tables at the end of KS1 in less time than it would take me to type it out on twinkl?

Any kind of....um...important document available online or something? No?

I am stumped.

Hmm
OP posts:
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 07/12/2016 20:54

I think there might be a document. I just can't for the life of me think what it might be.

If only it was on some sort of government website or something.
