Is anyone else dying to find out which school they have been allocated?

This is for my PFB which makes it extra difficult for me :(

I can't talk about it in real life as it starts off as a nice casual conversation ending with some delusions of grandeur PFB nonsense Blush

There are 9 primary schools in my town. 4 good schools that are over subscribed. 1 good school (my closest) that has a good intake and I have a chance of getting in. 4 schools I would be devastated if I got one of them :(

Ignore me I've worked my query out!

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/04/2015 09:05

It's ok thank you MTWTFSS

for heavens sake don't apologise nothing to apologise for.

PseudoBadger · 12/04/2015 09:06

Actually, I haven't! My intended school (not pictured) had 90 spaces, 232 applicants, 34 siblings. Yet the last 2 columns both show 'all', indicating that all applicants were offered places?

MTWTFSS · 12/04/2015 09:06

One of the worst schools is 2736 metres away, and last year someone was allocated it who was 3590 metres away Shock

The other bad school is 1931 metres away, and last year someone was allocated it who was 1286 metres away.

I need to step away from the statistics!!!

PseudoBadger That is weird. Do you think some admin person was too lazy to fill it in?

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 12/04/2015 09:08

what's wrong with the four schools and are any of them catchment?

similarly we have probably 3 or 4 schools that I would be upset at being given. ones my catchment and two are not so far away that people from further away haven't been admitted so who knows. depends on alot I guess. Some years they seem filled up by catchment others they come out quite far .

so scary

MTWTFSS · 12/04/2015 09:10

How do you know which is a catchment school? (I'm in Hertfordshire and it doesn't mention anything about catchments)

Pseudo - does it mean that once all places were allocated, the second school wasn't full / oversubscribed? i.e. lots of the appliants had it as a lower ranked preference and were allocated a school they liked better?

Our council have a similar table but split number of applicants down so you can see how many had school x as their first / second / third choice. So total number of applicants may be lots more than PAN but if most have school x as a second / third choice school x may still have spare spaces come September.

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/04/2015 09:18

Does your council site not have a postcode/catchment checker.

It's also available in think. through the inspection reports on often site

PseudoBadger · 12/04/2015 09:18

I wish I'd questioned it earlier MTW! Especially when I think that the closest offered was probably about 300 metres.

Almostapril · 12/04/2015 09:18

Pseudo it means it was not oversubscribed. Less than 90 put it as 1st choice. All got in. And some where it was choice 2

PseudoBadger · 12/04/2015 09:19

Ok thanks! Probably as a result of it going from outstanding to RI that year...

RustyBear · 12/04/2015 09:20

PseudoBadger - I would think that the applications column includes all who put the school on their form, no matter what their priority was, and the 'All' column means all those who put it on their form and didn't get offered a place at a school they placed higher.

Almostapril · 12/04/2015 09:25

In our area you put 3 options down but can put up to 6. That means most popular schools get hundreds of applicants as everyone puts at least 3 really. The table then says 'applicants in cat 4 (non sibling) up to a distance of x'
If it says all, it means that there was no distance cut off so all in that category that put it down got it, unless they were given a higher choice

Twine88 · 12/04/2015 09:49

Our results are available from midnight, I read somwhere (maybe this thread?) that its midnight 15/16th - please tell me thats right and its not midnight 16/17th. Either way I have been telling myself I will be waiting until the morning, but, I know I will be frantically online checking the from 2359....whilst drinking...alot.

Envy at all you midnighters

Twoplus3 · 12/04/2015 09:56

I've just took another look at our areas statistics as well :( I need to stop looking lol. There are 50 places and exactly 50 people put the school as 1st choice last year, about 30 for 2nd and 3rd choices. The places were allocated down to the last criteria. We are criteria 4 out of 9 so I'm really hoping there's a good chance my ds will get a place, although I know it also depends on other people's first chooces and whether they get that or not as they may be higher up the criteria than is if they live closer.

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/04/2015 10:01

Ok everyone in think we really need to stop torturing ourselves looking at all these previous allocations and debating distances. or we will never make it til Thursday.

well that would he sensible thing to do but who am.i kidding Blush

as you were

ShadowStone · 12/04/2015 10:08

The admissions website for my council said they start sending out e-mails at 8am, but one of the staff at DCs nursery told me that in previous years people have started getting e-mails from midnight. So not sure when to expect to find out really.

DrHamster · 12/04/2015 10:30

Hi, I'm starting all over again! My pfb is in secondary school and I really want dc2 to go to the school she went to but it has grown in popularity and there are 72 first choice applicants for 55 places. I can't find any statistics on the council website at all. Are they buried very deeply?!

MTW if I PM you would you take a look for me please?

Good luck to all, I will be here at midnight on 15th!

At least I am going out this afternoon to a children's birthday party... maybe it will take my mind off it!

Just realised one of the schools i rejected (because previous allocated distance never reached our postcode) is taking in an extra 30 places this year. Damn! it would of been my third or fourth choice. Oh well!
I have see a few people mention how many applicants a school has had, is this info available already? Perhaps people are referring to last year...
