Is anyone else dying to find out which school they have been allocated?

This is for my PFB which makes it extra difficult for me :(

I can't talk about it in real life as it starts off as a nice casual conversation ending with some delusions of grandeur PFB nonsense Blush

Twin if you don't like your allocated school you can go on the wait list for that one ...

3asAbird · 12/04/2015 12:07

Love the comment 3 right schools all little bit wrong.

Eldest goes to small village primary 20 intake 1.1 miles away tiny catchment so no sibling link all other primary in my county lose sibling link after 2miles.

We et 3 preferences only bugs me as we in area shortage.

School 1 eldest daughter dident get all her preschool mates did despite them living in neighbouring county as close to border.

School 2 wildcard city centre free school neighbouring county who gives sibling link to all and automatic transfer very good seniors.201 applications 30 places 1 excepted child so 31 so 3 have leave be back in hat was 105 drawn over 100 waitlist and no one's left in 2years been open as very good not hopeful remain on that list.

School 3 ok ish large infants 509 metres away from house. We walk past it see people again neighbouring county close border walking to it as elder must be low year and have sibling link.its also next to loads council flats loads of families. One year 55 siblings 75 intake. Linked juniors not so good and if 1 juniors 1 in reception you don't have sibling link.

We allocate school over mile from house wring direction from.eldest school and youngest nursery. dont have access to car as husband has for work so 3 mile 1 hour round trip can't be 2 places at same time won't sats in County only half year 6 reached level 4.must ne a full work in school no one wanted used be special measures.its improved but not great can't be 3 places one time wrap around care 200 quid month might make it doable but can't afford it and why should I.

Make matters worse landlord have notice dec jan 2013 look found house jan 2014 didn't move until Feb after deadline council won't accept new address without being late application but looking at stats at old house end up with same crappie school and that no where near old house either.

All my new local nit so good schools were crap and council said can only go 3 waitlists so had to drop one to add one.

ShadowStone · 12/04/2015 13:01

We'd have got into our first choice school last year.

Total number of applicants were roughly double the PAN. The council break those down into 1st / 2nd / 3rd choice. Roughly 20% more applicants listing it as first preference than there were spaces. So - if my maths are right - 5 out of every 6 children who had our preferred school as their first preference got it last year. The last child admitted lives about 0.3 miles further away than we do.

But of course I have no way of knowing how many siblings have applied this year, or how far from the school all the other applicants this year live relative to us.

3asAbird · 12/04/2015 13:07

So expect should explain what happened next.

Added name to 2 other nearby schools both a mile walking neighbouring county close our house youngest nursery and eldest school.

Steiner academy announced location after deadline 26 intake we Not sure position 200 on wait list and many more moved area try get in.im not hopeful as new school extra choice.

Own council only let us have 3 neighbouring county said if in year then can add 5th so looked round one liked it was no 9 then 6 then 3 now 5 not hopeful lots movement after school club and youngest 2nd preference used have rally bad rep but massively on up my freinds think I'm mad.

We defer school allocated until Jan keep options open.

Found nursery who take a 5years old she still had 15hours funding until Jan 2015 as term after 5th preschool wouldn't keep her they kept saying great shame I'm being reckless like was my choice her not to go.

She's 5 in sept so oldest in year.

We joined rainbows cheer leading and primary youth club. She does 3 mornings nursery with packed lunch it's led by qualified early years teachers and feels like reception. They been so supportive.head said she can stay on until july as feels for us she's 5.8 now.she has 4 year old freinds.

At first she was sad was hard seeing her mates go school uniform 1st ay school pics fb sept made me cry.

People say on here place come up sept
Then October half term her other freind nursery waiting school place got one after October half term.

We started doing local home ed meets as after October all her mates went full time.

Toddlers ans children's centre said we could still go there groups.

We avoided infant playground and flat mum who rented flay opposite school 6months moved back house council said fine as long a she' live in flats.

It's hard church and assembly seeing her mates. She worries ones moved on and no longer her best freind.

She's become less keen on starting school as years gone on.she has lots social time and does lots.she happy healthy super confident and enjoys home ed.

Home.ed resources new printer online subscriptions early readers books toys stationary crafts trios must cost me least 500. We do jolly phonics as that's what's 1st choice school uses she's not finding it so jolly. She knows her sounds just refuses blend and read none of us is finding jolly phonics that jolly.

I panic once month we behind.her comprehensions good her maths very good and her writings way ahead of reading.

I'm. Not teacher but clued up on efys and ks1 had 1 go school. I do my best sometimes it's fun other times its Turing as they don't always want perform. Parents in same way.

What grates me is home ed inspection 1 safeguarding which passed she seem surprised we so structured and do so much.

Dining rooms now classroom

The school mums think I'm. Hippy home ed mums must think I'm very schooled but I Need structure as don't want her being behind plus I'm. In and out school runs Need to manage my time..

We still waiting I ring admissions a lot they think I'm odd and stubborn.

We move up and down and if someone moves next door they bump us down.admissions talk to me like I'm an idiot.

They keep building new houses.one new school due open sept not built yet when rang jan buses to undisclosed site not sure who's rubbing it or when it be built get they ploughing ahead with 3000 homes.

Never heard bulge class here.some have expanded to 90 which I hate one had tiny classroom and massive free flow 90 kids.the trend seems to be free flow wouldn't suit my youngest son who has severe speech delay and gets anxious.

He was 4 last week.

Applied jan put other county school down as 2nd speech therapist said she dump him as she's not allowed in another county school.

0-25 special needs department won't give him educational healthcare plan new statement they don't consider non verbal anxiety or not fully potty trained as sen and no medical Need category in normal admissions so can't name him a school or he get extra support which ever school he gets they have deal with him and educational phycologist and his preschool say he's school ready he's failing efys hoping he can stay on in nursery and defer until april.

My nan always said don't expect anything won't be disappointed. I fear worst this week he has no sibling link at eldest school middle child still no school.schools must know numbers as one tweeted 200 applications 60 reception but does not say which is 1st 2nd or 3rd choice.

Worst moment school fair reception mums selling tea towels class of 2014 their names and drawings on .I wanted to throw up there and then.seeing them every day.

I plan to appeal middle child's place as can only appeal once a year.

Will appeal youngest too.
Accost any local councillor that beckons my door on elections.

Nursery say she scores where she need be end if reception 40 - 60 months.

Hoping she gets space 1 boy possibly going private Ahh to have the choice.

I get irrationally angry when people say I should have gone one given its on up never send their kids there or don't appreciate how lucky they are some of them...

its april we on waitlist for schools.

youngest so not ready to join reception.

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/04/2015 13:13

Does anyone know how they measure distance. I've Google mapped but is that accurate

Almostapril · 12/04/2015 13:14

They have a special mapping tool which is incredibly accurate and to 3 decimal points

Twine88 · 12/04/2015 13:14

[almostapril] yes, waiting lists will I fear be our only option. I have not thoroughly read up on that yet. Still hoping I Won't have to!

Just a quick question. The school we want ds do go to has takes 50 children in 2 classes. So if he isn't given a place would I stand a better chance somehow of winning as if they did give him a place it wouldn't take the class get the 30 child class limit rule?

tiggytape have you heard many instances getting address wrong? Say, you don't get into a school - do you get told why? Or do you have to enquire? I see lots if talk of appeals, but I think why bother, as it must just be because there were more people (fairly) ahead of you, but perhaps thats a naive belief in the system!

Twoplus3 · 12/04/2015 13:39

Thanks for explaining that to me, I never even thought of the classes mixing to be honest. My 9 year daughter who currently goes to the school only moved there in year 3 after we'd had lots of issues at her old school, so I've no idea whether or not they mix them after reception, hopefully not.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 12/04/2015 14:10

Twine - possibly not on announcement day, but quite quickly the la should be able to tell you last category and distance admitted.

Errors on address are rare, but if they admitted to 800m on distance alone and you are about 500m, for example, it is worth checking.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 12/04/2015 14:12

ps Our letter just said "other people fulfilled the over subscription criteria with higher priority than [child]. No actual reason.

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/04/2015 14:19

Does it work the same way when dealing with miles as opposed to metres

3asAbird · 12/04/2015 14:27

I'm sure there's a website that me a measures distance.you can w workout walking distance on as route finder.

Hope people get what they want and time flies.

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/04/2015 14:32

I'll look.

If anyone else finds it first please link Grin

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/04/2015 14:41

Well i found one. good news is its dramatically reduced the milage. bad news is it lowered the other out of catchment people's distance too so now ill definitely loose out to them on distance grounds Sad

will of course be happy for them though. genuinely.

Twine88 · 12/04/2015 14:42

Thanks tiggy no sibling advantage and non faith. For us it comes down to distance, last year we wouldnt of got in (for the first time) last year coincided with the completion of a new housing development, also in catchment, but nearer then us Sad. 35% of intake was also siblings, not sure if overall thats high, but it was considerably higher then year before, for our first choice. Have made note of those questions!
