Prepping For Pandemic..... 11

Thread 11.

This prepping for a pandemic pack was posted one one of the previous threads, I thought I’d post for this thread as there’s more people joining the threads. I had a quick scan through the last couple of thread to find a list that’s been posted a few times but couldn’t find it. The pack seems a bit end of days in some parts buts it’s got some useful ideas.

Pandemic Preparedness Pack

The Emotional Prep thread started by @Neome might be worth a look for those of us feeling anxious as things ramp up.

Also attached a screenshot of a post on previous threads by @blackeyesusan (hope you don’t mind) with storage ideas for those of us living in smaller homes.

Really interesting about proper soap!

No updates on UK cases today????? Why not????

NatoPMT · 06/03/2020 13:13

I’m going to freeze eggs - thank you!!

Castile soap is great too - it will all do the trick 😊

Readyme · 06/03/2020 13:14

The update usually happens at 2pm occasionally it's later around 4pm

NatoPMT · 06/03/2020 13:16

I’d recommend soap bars all day long though over liquid soaps

A bar is safe from harbouring in the pump / on the plastic bottle

Cheaper, safer, and better for the environment

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 13:19

I have just ordered 4 bars of sainsburys family soap .. think it should be good for washing away.

MoonlightMistletoe · 06/03/2020 13:19

Not sure if this is accurate

NatoPMT · 06/03/2020 13:23

Oh that makes me so sad, poor fella, I hate to think of someone in their 80s, isolated and dying alone 😭😭

I’m coming out from under my stone to poke my head out and say hello.
I’ve been following all the prepping threads since about Easter last year.
I Brexit prepped and have responded accordingly during the last couple of months. All set for a month or so at home.
I was triggered to start being organised a year ago when snow cut our village off and our water supply went off for 8 days.

We have Covid-19 cases in our county.
Child is HE so no concern with school.

Today partner had a hospital appointment and we discovered that his cancer has come back. This has thrown me into a whole new realm of concern. Our child has unstable asthma so I’m already on alert and wanting to protect our family from unnecessary risks.
Initial treatment is going to be daily radiotherapy for 6 weeks. I don’t know how to find out what increased risks he might have. It will mean driving to the big hospital an hour and a half away every day. He thinks he can work afternoons, but I suspect not!

I don’t expect anyone to have any answers but I’m just reaching out as right now I feel pretty alone. And although I have been reading every post on these threads for weeks, I’ve never posted. So here goes.

Twitney · 06/03/2020 13:28

cookies I'm so sorry to read that. My daughter has cancer, so I know only too well the fear and the loneliness it can bring at times. Sending you strength.

Spoke to the Dept for Education helpline today re: teen who is immuno compromised. As with pp, they stated that it wasn't up to them to say it was safe for dc to continue going to school, and to call 111.

Chose the Public Health England option, and was told that it was business as usual. Avoid ill people, but When dc is in contact with someone with coronavirus, they would be traced as a contact, and would be prioritised for isolation in hospital rather than at home. School would be closed for two days to deep clean, then re-opened for business as usual.

Still unsure how to proceed moving forwards, and now have the added question of who would feed the cats if we were having to spend two weeks+ in hospital for isolation?

Anybody else wish the world would just go back to "normal"?

rhij86 · 06/03/2020 13:28

@cookiesareforeatingnotforstoring - love the name btw! I'm so sorry your husbands cancer has returned. Your head must be in a tailspin right now Flowers

MoonlightMistletoe · 06/03/2020 13:29

Sky news have also reported it on Twitter.

Its really upsetting, even though I don't know them personally it's sad.

NatoPMT · 06/03/2020 13:29

Cookies, I’m so so sorry.

Take a bit of time to process the information, I hope you have some support and are able to talk while you’re doing this

It’s a lot to deal with

VenetoResident · 06/03/2020 13:31

@NatoPMT - poor DH has some French blood so they assume he's Italian. He's hardly got a word! The kids are amazing so they translate for us.

My Italian is all context driven vocabulary. I'm now proficient at cafe and medical Italian!!

MoonlightMistletoe · 06/03/2020 13:32

Cookies, such sad news I'm sorry to hear that.

Sending you strength Thanks

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 06/03/2020 13:33

@CookiesAreForEatingNotStoring Flowers

I’m so sorry - it must be such a worrying time for you. Your DP sounds very stoic wishing to work afternoons but, unless he has no choice, I’m sure he should be using his afternoons for resting and recuperating as much as possible.

Not much I can say to help but sending you all good wishes.

wherethewavesarehighest · 06/03/2020 13:34

I was in lidl today and there was quite a lot of handwash and bar soap in. But we are in NE Scotland. Dp is quite concerned there were absolutely no lidl twix bars in though!
Hygiene at dds nursery seems to have taken a bit more of a serious turn today now that the kids know the ropes.
We don't have a huge freezer but I'm fairly confident we've frozen a good range of stuff and I'm not filling it with bread, I'll make that as and when.

Just waiting for update now.

VenetoResident · 06/03/2020 13:35

I have a temperature and medication app - good when you have to take them to the doctors and they ask what has been going on.

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 06/03/2020 13:37

CookiesAreForEating - I'm so sorry to read your post (and can only apologise for the terrible timing of my own). You certainly have a lot on your plate.

Does your partner have a Macmillan nurse or somebody similar that you could contact? It may be early if you've only had your appt today.

Either the Macmillan helpline, or a charity for the particular type of cancer your partner has, may be able to either provide or signpost you towards some info.

I wish you all the best FlowersCake

ofwarren · 06/03/2020 13:37

cookies I'm so sorry to hear about your husband.
Everyone on this board is lovely so I think you should enjoy it here

VenetoResident · 06/03/2020 13:38

@NatoPMT - amazing. I'll try it tonight. DS2 was struggling last night so I was up a lot with him but sleep was completely evading me.

Blueberryham · 06/03/2020 13:39

Where we are the panic buying at the moment is just on toilet roll, soap and medicine. Is it worse than that in the rest of the country? I have a pretty good stock of food (topped up today).

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 13:41

@Vaki it’s important for them to maintain safe distance, hand gels (the ones that act for longer like 3 hour protection etc), encouraging people to use contactless, minimising exposure time all can work.. but I feel very sorry for them as it’s actually very difficult to be conscious about this all day

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 06/03/2020 13:41

@NatoPMT

Castile soap is great too - it will all do the trick 😊

Do you know if Marseilles soap is the same?

Thanks

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 13:43

What.. second death in Milton Keynes hospital.. was it in the town already 😳 I’m now freaking out ..
