Prepping For Pandemic..... 11

Thread 11.

This prepping for a pandemic pack was posted one one of the previous threads, I thought I’d post for this thread as there’s more people joining the threads. I had a quick scan through the last couple of thread to find a list that’s been posted a few times but couldn’t find it. The pack seems a bit end of days in some parts buts it’s got some useful ideas.

Pandemic Preparedness Pack

The Emotional Prep thread started by @Neome might be worth a look for those of us feeling anxious as things ramp up.

Also attached a screenshot of a post on previous threads by @blackeyesusan (hope you don’t mind) with storage ideas for those of us living in smaller homes.

Oh ffs, curbed.

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 07/03/2020 17:45

And ill!

Filitheyofun · 07/03/2020 17:47

My DDs best friends dad is skiing in Northern Italy atm. Aibu to tell her not to see friend for 2 weeks after he comes back and that family SHOULD inform the High school of his recent trip? We had a letter from school on Friday asking parents to report if anyone has been on recent business trips abroad.

Orchidflower1 · 07/03/2020 17:49

@magicrainbowbeans are your colleagues crackers?
My understanding is that anyone who goes anywhere in Italy has to self isolate for two weeks? Apologies if this is wrong.
Do you have a HR/ manager at work you can inform so they can have a word beforehand?

Why we are still flying to Italy I do not know. dh said Slovenia are not flying to Italy anymore.

Orchidflower1 · 07/03/2020 17:52

On a lighter note I accidentally ordered 10 packets of Jammy Dodgers with online shop last week ( it was my second mistake in the same shop🤣 must take more care!).

So if anyone needs them I’m you’re girl!

NatoPMT · 07/03/2020 17:58

Just went round to elderly neighbours house, she’s 88 with no family, lives alone. Said she’s not lovely but then talked without taking a breath about her history for 30 mins 😂😂

Swapped numbers, going to get some more stuff with her in mind as she doesn’t want help... She’s got a week of food in but told her once they say she’s on house arrest, she needs to stay in

NatoPMT · 07/03/2020 17:58

Argh not lovely... not LONELY 😂😂

Puppycorn · 07/03/2020 18:02

I am not sure if anyone is aware of this but all the persons returning from all parts of Italy need to call 111 for advice on their return (some of dh’s work colleagues were planning to travel and they have advised that they may need to self quarantine on their return even if it’s south of Italy)

Legoandloldolls · 07/03/2020 18:02

When I went to Aldi I bought one of every fun size treat bag I thought my kids would enjoy in a lockdown. Bloody dd found two packs and opened them. So she can eat the boiled rice as her treat. I need to misorder 10 gins.....

Came to Costco for loo roll, left with lemon flavour gin......

Plus Surf washing power. I could clean my bum with them I guess?

Fantasiaa · 07/03/2020 18:05

I’m just curious if you guys prepare for the winter flu every year ?

Orchidflower1 · 07/03/2020 18:07

@legoandlolfolks 🤣 I wouldn’t mind but my misorder for the biscuits were for dh. I don’t even like jammie dodgers now he’s got 10 packets instead of one. I bet he opens three different ones and then moans they’ve gone soft!

Heartyhooker · 07/03/2020 18:07

Re community help, I mentioned this before but have set up a collection for local food bank through ds2's school. Literally a couple of emails back and forth to set up and hopefully enough stuff collected to cope with the increased demand and reduced donations I expect to see.
In other news Booths had depleted stocks of toilet paper, pasta and handwash but still many many types of beer and gin

NatoPMT · 07/03/2020 18:12

That’s a good idea heartyhooker.

My daughters schools parents would actually be the recipient of help rather than the helpers though, if people there have, it would be at their own detriment

VenetoResident · 07/03/2020 18:16

Shops here were definitely quieter today.

Shops, bars and restaurants have 'keep 1m apart' notices up. Few people are adhering to them.

No shortages in the shops at all except for hand gel.

Thinking about the inhaler spacer advice above. Steroids make you more susceptible to infection?

DS1 has just had two days of steroid** tablets for an acute case of bronchitis. Anything to worry about?

DS2 has been on fluticasone for close to a year. Is that enough for immunosuppression? And singulair / Monteleukast which I've just looked up and isn't a steroid.

VenetoResident · 07/03/2020 18:17

Apologies for random bolding!

sideorderofchips · 07/03/2020 18:18

@Fantasiaano we don't. There is a vaccine for that and it's known.

Covid19 is unkown. The who are very concerned about it. Its different. And we have no idea what will happen with it.

Heartyhooker · 07/03/2020 18:20

Hopefully I've worded the email so that people don't feel obligated , mind you half the town is very comfortably off and the rest of us work in the service industries.

aliasname · 07/03/2020 18:20

To do this weekend:

Write down the dogs medications and where we order it from online (without me, DH wouldn't have clue)
Get DH to write down exactly how to work the 'smart' TV (without him, I can't even switch it on)
Teach DC how to use the dishwasher including cleaning the filter

I'm not looking forward to that last one, especially after the unblocking-the-toilet training 🙄 which resulted in teenagers swearing they were never doing that again, even if it meant they had to live at home forever

Highlandyak · 07/03/2020 18:21

I’m just curious if you guys prepare for the winter flu every year?
I get the flu jag every year, always have food in and practice good hand hygiene year round.

savethecat · 07/03/2020 18:24

Last I checked, the wHO and Govt haven't asked anyone with winter flu to isolate themselves.

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 07/03/2020 18:26

I’m just curious if you guys prepare for the winter flu every year ?

Why are you curious @Fantasiaa?

MoreCoffeeNeeded · 07/03/2020 18:26

Haven't fully read to the end but wanted to add while I was thinking it...

If things are like this now, imagine if this hangs on until December/January, the whole delay thing gone too far. Then we will have Brexit to contend with on top of this. In a way, this is a prelude of the type of thing that is going to happen with a no-deal. The headlines will be the same...things are running out etc. Except at the moment, while things ARE running out, at least the shops can alter their orders and restock. In a no-deal scenario, they cannot.

So all the preppers from Brexit were said to be overreacting, and have found it helpful in this situation. Now the preppers are said to be overreacting....come January...

So if this situation has prompted people to prep, and it can be kept on top of, then that will help with no-deal. Because I think people honestly have no idea what will hit in that scenario - all the scoffers will realise we weren't so silly after all. Imagine the anger noe and add Breit. That is why we need to prep.

BanKittenHeels · 07/03/2020 18:27

I’m just curious if you guys prepare for the winter flu every year ?

I do yes, by having my flu jab.

Yes, thank goodness for the 12 month brexit transfer period. If we had this and possible brexit induced supply chain issues we could have been really stuffed. Both together would not have been good.
