Prepping For Pandemic..... 11

Thread 11.

This prepping for a pandemic pack was posted one one of the previous threads, I thought I’d post for this thread as there’s more people joining the threads. I had a quick scan through the last couple of thread to find a list that’s been posted a few times but couldn’t find it. The pack seems a bit end of days in some parts buts it’s got some useful ideas.

Pandemic Preparedness Pack

The Emotional Prep thread started by @Neome might be worth a look for those of us feeling anxious as things ramp up.

Also attached a screenshot of a post on previous threads by @blackeyesusan (hope you don’t mind) with storage ideas for those of us living in smaller homes.

@boreda such a good deep clean that they didn't even have to cancel any appointments! Fgs 🤷‍♀️
I am very surprised our numbers in Wales still only stand at 2 (for now)

itsnotjustflu · 07/03/2020 06:56

It will be interesting to see what develops now almost half are infected on the cruise ship. Might be a wake up call to the doubters. Let's face it if 3-7% of them die which should happen as they are probably elderly that wouldn't be normal. You don't go on a cruise expecting that many to die because of flu or a cold. The light will turn on with them all at some point

itsnotjustflu · 07/03/2020 06:58

3 to 7% is an elderly mortality rate that they announce today. With a few younger people it averages them out but that is their percentage in their age range

FuckThisWind · 07/03/2020 07:11

Morning all. Well I'm off to work in a couple of hours. (Checkouts) and I've heard tales from colleagues that folk are starting to become abusive. Never mind the fact that I'm going to have 200 conversations from people going Sheesh! Panic buying. Such madness. Mutter mutter (whilst buying six of everything) I'm going to have a well bitten lip at the end of my shift.
I've only been in this job for 5 months. I took it out of desperation after being diagnosed with a health condition which meant I had to give up on my much loved career. (Which also paid 5 times what I earn now) So my heart isn't really in it. My tolerance is low. But my spirit is strong. I will keep gritting my teeth smiling. And report back anything useful I might note.

Oh, and I grabbed the last pack of sausages off the shelf in my local store last night. DD and her mate requested them for dinner. So not sure what all the sausage shortage is all about. Suppose that's what people are filling there freezers with.

rhij86 · 07/03/2020 07:14

@fuckthiswind hope work goes quickly and without incident for you!

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 07/03/2020 07:35

@itsnotjustflu, half aren't infected. Half of the 42 tested so far are; 19 of whom are flu. It says they will be testing everyone when it docks.

HasaDigaEebowai · 07/03/2020 07:36

Almost half from that latest cruise ship are infected

No, almost half tested. Cleary not many have been tested since only 21 have been declared positive.

HasaDigaEebowai · 07/03/2020 07:37

But 19 of them are not "flu" 21 have coronavirus which is not flu!!!!

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 07/03/2020 07:39

Johnson’s lies and miscommunications are showing him for who he is - a chancer who seized power without the experience and qualities to do the job

Quite. I think Corbyn and Swindon would have been equally inept in different ways. Apart from Caroline Lucas, who I heard talking articulately about CV on R4 a while ago, our political class are depressingly useless.

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 07/03/2020 07:40

Swinson, not Swindon.

itsnotjustflu · 07/03/2020 07:43

My confusion sorry.

I bet sausage shortage is freezer filling. Dh just bought a freezer and has declared he's filling it with sausages, bread and bacon. Told him he'll did of too much salt. He doesn't even eat pig products

sideorderofchips · 07/03/2020 07:43

Morning all

I'm off to the charity shop today to get some puzzles and board games just in case

itsnotjustflu · 07/03/2020 07:43

*die not did

MinesaPinotPlease · 07/03/2020 07:50

So what are everyone’s plans today?

We were due to fly to an Italian City for The weekend but cancelled it.

Instead will Visit MIL today. She is just out of hospital. We are lucky to have a full time carer and as MIL is home bound due to recovery from a stroke - we will meet her carer (who does the pharmacy and supermarket runs) and check that they have
Everything they need.

Then a trip to the pharmacy to try to stock up on some other meds (immodium, rehydration powders). Not essentials meds for Coronavirus but nice to have.

byebyebeautiful · 07/03/2020 07:55

19 are CREW, not 19 have flu!

TipseyTorvey · 07/03/2020 07:55

I just wandered over to an 'it's just the flu' thread and was interested to read that shops are selling out of loo roll etc and people are scoffing in quite an unpleasant way at the stupid preppers. I'm just glad I bought all my loo roll in Jan so no need for me to worry about it now. Why are people so annoyed that we bought ahead?

Anyway to answer your question today I am going for a run (very keen to keep healthy) then boys going to sports then hunker down for the rest of the weekend really. Not feeling like going to crowded places at the moment.

sideorderofchips · 07/03/2020 07:59

I bought my toilet roll off amazon. 60 rolls for £14 delivered. At least I don't have to run the gauntlet of supermarket stares. And it was cheaper

AlohaMolly · 07/03/2020 07:59

DP is working with a group of tourists today and DS and I are off to do a beach clean!

middleager · 07/03/2020 07:59

Myhips can you tell us why you have said the 21 have flu when it's confirmed they have coronavirus?

middleager · 07/03/2020 08:00

Sorry, see you mean crew, not flu!

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 07/03/2020 08:01

@hankyspanky - that’s good to know, thank you. I just caught the fact he was an advisor to both Bush and Obama administrations but missed that he stands to profit from this. Still a chilling statement to hear...

I’m getting really riled at the obvious profiteering on Amazon. They should really stamp this out. Earlier this week the Clinell wipes I bought for £9.99 in early January were being sold at over £50. Now this, Dettol laundry cleanser - £29.95!

@byebyebeautiful Blush that was an autocorrect, honestly.

HasaDigaEebowai · 07/03/2020 08:04

Very concerning that the Milton Keynes death has just returned from a Caribbean cruise. I've not seen that reported before.

Destinysdaughter · 07/03/2020 08:07

This is a very sobering Twitter thread about the numbers and the impact in the U.S. Which also has implications for us too

Posharmchairs · 07/03/2020 08:12

Hello.

Long time thread lurker.

I started a brexit cupboard following tips on this board and have kept up ever since.

Just wanted to say thank you as I’ve learnt so much. We now have a great system of use and replace with a fall back of ex amount of weeks worth, subscribe to wgac loo roll and tissues, ramped up our saving efforts and have enjoyed experimenting with a dehydrator.

I have taken note that freezing bread you could bake (which I can and have a sourdough starter on the go as well as dry yeast) is a waste of freezer space and today plan to freeze eggs.

It’s been “nice” not to feel the need to rush out to the shops but equally our elderly parents are so indifferent to the news it’s stressing us out knowing how to protect them.

Young dc in this house so I would like to track down a calpol or two as it’s last set of molar cutting time 😑

Our local shops are looking a bit sparse, however sensible bar soaps, neat dettol and normal bread flour still available. I reckon in my region people are planning to ride it out on a diet of paracetamol and instant focaccia bread mix 😂
