Prepping For Pandemic..... 11

Thread 11.

This prepping for a pandemic pack was posted one one of the previous threads, I thought I’d post for this thread as there’s more people joining the threads. I had a quick scan through the last couple of thread to find a list that’s been posted a few times but couldn’t find it. The pack seems a bit end of days in some parts buts it’s got some useful ideas.

Pandemic Preparedness Pack

The Emotional Prep thread started by @Neome might be worth a look for those of us feeling anxious as things ramp up.

Emotional Prep Thread

Also attached a screenshot of a post on previous threads by @blackeyesusan (hope you don’t mind) with storage ideas for those of us living in smaller homes.

@NatoPMT I’ve stocked the usual fresh veg and proper meals for 2 weeks and the boring stuff like tins, Rice and pasta for the next two.. I think I might need to stock some more nutritious food now. Make be make some and preserve or buy a new freezer may be? I also need to buy a tall planter .. it’s all getting too expensive

NatoPMT · 06/03/2020 23:07

@wherearemychickens - get a bar of soap. I’m not 100% on Ecover, it should be ok but a) it’s expensive and b) I’m not sure it’s harsh enough. Washing up liquid would usually shred your hands. I know it’s biodegradable but I don’t know enough about the surfactants to understand it

Puppy - I haven’t told anyone I have stock. Keep it quiet. Keep your head down. Don’t open windows when cooking with strong smells.

I have constantly been aware of civil unrest and I hope I haven’t infected you with that hug the news just keeps showing signs and signals that people will be abandoned

My husband just told me to make sure we can give food away too if our friends are struggling.

I feel edgy af again.

Signed the petition.

I am going to consider taking her out next week regardless.

NatoPMT · 06/03/2020 23:08

Lol at my hug typo above... slotted Into the text quite well so you’re welcome to keep it, puppy 😂

BanKittenHeels · 06/03/2020 23:21

@wherearemychickens
Washing up liquid like fairy will be fine. A bar of soap is your best bet and what we use at home.

BanKittenHeels · 06/03/2020 23:23

Pressed sent too soon. I am febrile and achey. 😬

@mindproject

I really honestly think this is just a natural event. Viruses have been around since just after life on earth began. Viruses arent truly a living thing, but they have most of the qualities to think of them like that. They evolve they mutate and they spread because in science terms, the meaning of life is to pass on your genes.Covid is just doing its virus thing now its found a new host. The frightening truth is there is possibly hinderds more viruses like this if not thousands waiting to jump species. But that has been the case since all time. A chance encounter and here we are.

I cant talk for everyone but most scientists who work in labs dont set out wanting to weaponise nature. If they did engineer this is makes no sense. They would know it might kill their mum, dad, grandparents, travel the globe unchecked. Who would do that? No one person could bioengineering this and no team would all agree to stay quite.

I still believe this is just nature. If you took At our DNA, we are 97% the same to a chimp. But did you know we have 70% similarities to a cat? Because back in time we split from.the same species to evole one branch to humans, another branch to cats.

www.businessinsider.com/comparing-genetic-similarity-between-humans-and-other-things-2016-5

That's why this virus has similar common code to other viruses. Way, way back in history they branched out from.thecsame virus

Legoandloldolls · 06/03/2020 23:50

If shtf and food gets low / civil unrest maybe a good idea to recycle boxes from food at a later date. I have 8 boxes of cereal but with six kids and if people get irrate at empty shelves I dont think they would grasp that a family of six eats more than a family of two.

No one is going to starve. But your adverage A hole when cuts you up driving wavering their fists might start exhibiting their inner ape in the shops.

Remember you cantvargue with stupid so I'm going to keep my head low on what ever front I can.

You can also get in twice as much food in the freezer without its box ( trust me, done this many, many times and every pizza cooks at gas mark 6 in about 10-15 minutes.

Ferrari Roche (sp?) Lasts for years as hip fat just try to help as best I can

@allonym yes that occured to me too! I didn't stay to watch so no idea what happened when she got to the checkout. She was with her partner so possibly they intended to split up and purchase separately?

NatoPMT · 07/03/2020 00:42

@Legoandloldolls I’m afraid I don’t have your confidence on how able the government are to feed the whole population

They say tonight that they can provide care package food for the whole country

The bbc have been speaking to anon supermarket industry sources who say that is not possible

The government say don’t stockpile

The PHE today have contradicted that advice and told people to do that without panic buying

This is a MESS

Johnson’s lies and miscommunications are showing him for who he is - a chancer who seized power without the experience and qualities to do the job at any other time than when his brexit smoke and mirrors gave him the opportunity

Now we have something he isn’t in control of and we are fucked

NatoPMT · 07/03/2020 00:45

Ps people were already starving before this happened

47% of children in my borough live in absolute poverty

My daughters school provides free breakfast for children who haven’t eaten

hankyspanky · 07/03/2020 01:11

@Legoandloldolls fgs don't advertise the fact you bought more than you actually needed over on another thread.

I offered to send a pp a bottle of hand sanitiser as I'd got a couple spare and was slated!! I made it clear I wasn't selling them and a donation to a local food bank would be adequate 'repayment'.

I actually bought 2 extra to send to non local family but then heard they'd got some, before anyone jumps on me here Blush

Legoandloldolls · 07/03/2020 01:22

I did buy my hand gels not this Monday but last Monday. This virus caught my attention early, possibly due to my degree. I have been waiting for this kind of outbreak since my degree.

I'm fairly used to being slated just for having four kids! The fact that I have worked hard to provide all they need ( built a house, worked full time in IT etc) doesn't mean that people understand that.

A pack of cereal lasts three days if I'm lucky. I do try to keep my prepping to myself. I am hoping dh hasn't told people.

I'm all for helping people too but I'm seeing my mum.being mugged for her shopping. Im aiming to help her. It's a tough time. Horrible 😥😥😥

hankyspanky · 07/03/2020 01:57

@Legoandloldolls I'm dealing with a family who are all of the mentality of 'its just the same as normal flu' so I've given up with them now.

Fortunately I don't live near by, otherwise I guess we'd have had serious fallings out by now Hmm

I did say don't come crying to me when you're paying £500 for a loo roll Grin (Actually feeling quite twitchy that I only bought 1 extra pack now)

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 07/03/2020 02:17

CEO for Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness call’s Coronavirus the “most frightening disease Ive ever encountered”

Googling him, he’s worked on SARS, MERS, Ebola

@NatoPMT

I watched that - he actually said it scared him more than Ebola, SARS, MERS. I’ve been frightened about this but hearing that has taken it to a whole new level.

@Mindproject

Someone please tell me the elite/powerful/influential are all lovely and have our best interests at heart.

Johnson, Patel, Raab, Cummings...🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

I agree with Lego - I can’t buy into the manmade virus idea but I can’t say I’d be overly surprised to find there had been some conversations about the silver lining of a massively reduced benefits bill.

Oh, and Nato - thank you for the reassurance re liquid Marseilles soap.

hankyspanky · 07/03/2020 03:03

@singing please try and not worry too much about what Richard Hatchett says. He has strong links to big Pharma (think a scaled down version of Bill Gates) so I have viewed what he's said with a certain degree of skepticism.

JustVisiting9 · 07/03/2020 05:59

Hi again,
Isn't it odd how things are selling out? Sainsburys had hardly any loo roll, but Morrisons had plenty. The same with paracetamol - some places are sold out of the cheap brands but Morrisons had a shelf full. I wonder if it's psychological - when the shelf starts to empty, shoppers believe there's a shortage and put an extra pack in their trolley.

Here is a tip from me: see if you have a milkman. I use Milk&More (for convenience - it's not cheap). I know they might not be able to continue deliveries if there's a widespread outbreak/lockdown/shortages, but as a short term solution for someone who's in quarantine it would be ideal. You can add fruit and veg, bread, bacon etc to your order online the night before. If I have to stay at home, I will use this service to keep fresh food supplies topped up for as long as they keep delivering.

Like I said, not cheap but an easy way of making sure I have essentials and preserve supplies. I give the milk bottles a wipe down with Dettol before putting them in the fridge :)

Closed for 40 minutes for a deep clean, fgs surely it takes longer than that! Angry

Destinysdaughter · 07/03/2020 06:31

Good tip from another thread, if you're having trouble sourcing hand wash, try charity shops as there's often unwanted gift sets in them ( which will often have the hand cream too)

itsnotjustflu · 07/03/2020 06:36

Almost half from that latest cruise ship are infected www.google.com/amp/s/www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/coronavirus-uk-news-cases-latest-covid-19-deaths-live/amp/ woah that's crazy

itsnotjustflu · 07/03/2020 06:37

And morning everyone. We are having a day out with my mum today. Going to be miss paranoid in the loos and at lunch...wish I'd made a picnic

Dennisreynoldsduster · 07/03/2020 06:48

I’ve got my regular Sainsbury’s delivery coming today.

No loo roll, randomly no sausages, lots of jars of sauces and tins not available.

Glad that I have a decent amount of loo roll to tide us over!

My local Lidl had no toilet roll, no nappies, no baby wipes, no bleach, people were buying entire trays of tins...

84TinsOfBeans · 07/03/2020 06:49

@Boreda it takes me 40 mins to give my kitchen a good go. I'd never say it had a deep clean though.

84TinsOfBeans · 07/03/2020 06:51

@Dennisreynoldsduster I haven't been able to get linda McCartney sausages for a few weeks now in lidls
