Prepping For Pandemic..... 11

Thread 11.

This prepping for a pandemic pack was posted one one of the previous threads, I thought I’d post for this thread as there’s more people joining the threads. I had a quick scan through the last couple of thread to find a list that’s been posted a few times but couldn’t find it. The pack seems a bit end of days in some parts buts it’s got some useful ideas.

Pandemic Preparedness Pack

The Emotional Prep thread started by @Neome might be worth a look for those of us feeling anxious as things ramp up.

Also attached a screenshot of a post on previous threads by @blackeyesusan (hope you don’t mind) with storage ideas for those of us living in smaller homes.

Washing up liquid will be fine.
Do you not find it dries your hands though?

MoonlightMistletoe · 06/03/2020 22:09

@Coughsyrupsucks Thank you!

sideorderofchips · 06/03/2020 22:10

@peachgreen I have stuff under my bed and in the wardrobe as I have very little storage here

peachgreen · 06/03/2020 22:13

@sideorder yeah I think I might try that, to keep as much in the house as possible.

peachgreen · 06/03/2020 22:15

@itsnotjustflu I have faith that there will be a vaccine developed, possibly even within the year. But we still have to get through this year.

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 22:17

@peachgreen exactly.....It's so frustrating. Past three years have been pretty shitty for us and I was really looking forward to a good year. We had so many plans

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 22:19

@wherearemychickens the fairy washing up liquid is so harsh on hands and also affects aquatic animals - a point to note as we might need to wash hands more often.

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 22:21

Also could people who are active in mumsnet share the petition link in other topics too. I’m just in this one and not closely following any other threads. Thank you.

wherearemychickens · 06/03/2020 22:22

We use Ecover - haven't noticed it particularly being drying. I mean, yes, my hands are a lot drier but then I am washing at a way greater frequency so I would expect that anyway. Glad people think it's okay though.

peachgreen · 06/03/2020 22:24

@itsnotjustflu us too. We miscarried a much wanted baby and then I had horrendous PND. Finally started feeling content and happy.

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 22:24

@itsnotjustflu same with me. Past 3 years were so shitty and I thought this year will bring some hope..
Nothing but going for worse to the rock bottom.. but you know what when shit hits the rock bottom, there is only one way and that’s up and better.

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 22:31

let's hope so @puppycorn

CookiesAreForEatingNotStoring · 06/03/2020 22:36

Devon has increased to 10 now. I’m sure there’s loads more, just not tested. Want to shut the doors, play with Lego, eat biscuits and hibernate. However... bloody cancer.

I realise I’m actually feeling angry now (as well as sad, frightened etc).

Sending supportive thoughts to all who are also having a tough time.

AlohaMolly · 06/03/2020 22:37

Just waving hello to those of you saying you’ve had a crappy few years. Me too. I was so convinced 2020 was going to be ‘my’ year Confused

Ah - not near me then - I guess that a lot of hospitals have a similar set up. Thank you.

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 22:44

@CookiesAreForEatingNotStoring Sending you lot of love .. this too shall pass and the days will get better .. xx

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 22:44

:( @AlohaMolly

Just read a thread on a Lincolnshire news page with lots of people not understanding why people were buying loo roll. Lots of jokes about it not being Norovirus etc. I bet they've all been out and bought loo roll!!!

NatoPMT · 06/03/2020 22:46

Puppy - thanks for the offer of advice. I love a lentil but trying to copy a dish without a recipe is not my forte!!

How many days? I’d say as many as you can now. Also think about how you can stretch your food out. My batch cooked Frozen pasta sauces can have an extra tin of tomatoes added to them per portion for eg

try and aim for 4 weeks. Did you say previously you’ve done 2 weeks worth?

84TinsOfBeans · 06/03/2020 22:48

Forgot the link to Welsh info last time Hmm.

Yes, me too. Past few years were pretty tough. So much for things getting better.

I think we're prepped although might have to restock some of the biscuits...

So, a question. How will it work for those people who didn't prep if there is a lockdown or a self-isolation. I assume the government won't actually let people starve!

In China during the lockdown they let people out sometimes to shop - how did the supermarkets get the food into the area? I guess services like waste collection did not happen.

What about if they're in isolation ~ are friends and family expected to get food to them? And people who live on their own? Hmm if we had to bring my PIL over to stay with us, my stash would disappear a lot quicker.

God, my MIL living here, under quarantine. I'd rather take my chances with coronavirus.

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 22:59

Haha @aliasname I get you.... I'm not sure but I think friends and family can drop food off. So glad I prepped weeks ago. I don't have to feel guilty for causing empty shelves
