Prepping For Pandemic..... 11

Thread 11.

This prepping for a pandemic pack was posted one one of the previous threads, I thought I’d post for this thread as there’s more people joining the threads. I had a quick scan through the last couple of thread to find a list that’s been posted a few times but couldn’t find it. The pack seems a bit end of days in some parts buts it’s got some useful ideas.

Pandemic Preparedness Pack

The Emotional Prep thread started by @Neome might be worth a look for those of us feeling anxious as things ramp up.

Also attached a screenshot of a post on previous threads by @blackeyesusan (hope you don’t mind) with storage ideas for those of us living in smaller homes.

@Puppycorn I think the man who sadly died wasn't included in the official cases, I read that they were awaiting results or confirmation that the cause was Covid-19. The numbers are now shown as 164 in the media.

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 21:37

@mindproject I have sometimes wondered about it too..

People there is this petition so please sign it up if you are with me

@MoonlightMistletoe I agree. Now does feel too soon but equally why wait until it gets worse. We have said we will stay at home etc but it scares me getting it wrong and doing it too early. School consequences could be massive. Dh thinks we can just appeal any fine... Yeah right. Also concerned about how we would then say my widowed mum who lives two hours away. What if it never really goes away etc etc. Hate not knowing how this is going to pan out. Just want to keep my family safe....and we are supposed to be going to Europe mid April and late May. Mum wants to still go...we don't. It's a mess

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 21:38

And oh my gosh are my hands dry

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 21:39

*see not say

MoonlightMistletoe · 06/03/2020 21:39

Someone in Ireland has tested positive, 164. The tests for the man who has sadly passed away are still ongoing.

@itsnotjustflu that's the most worrying part, the unknown isn't it? The way I see things is that our little country isn't invincible, the other countries with huge amounts of cases all started at 1, I don't see how things will get better if we don't act now. I understand what you mean about getting things wrong, but again it's the unknown. If we were told to all stay at home it would make things so much easier.

I suppose we have to "do as we're told" and believe in our government but the way things are going outside of the UK I fear they are wrong.

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 21:47

@MoonlightMistletoe I fear the same. Italy just makes no sense. They're on 5% mortality at the moment. I wouldn't want to see the same happen here

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 21:50

Forgot to mention that petition is to close schools/colleges for an appropriate amount of time amidst corona fears. Those who support it can sign and share. Thank you. Attaching the link once again

echobench · 06/03/2020 21:50

Very sorry for your extra worries @CookiesAreForEatingNotStoring

Signed that petition.

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 21:50

Oh dear God.....just had someone remark that cold symptoms are the same as Covid 19. What are we having to deal with....I need to just ignore

MoonlightMistletoe · 06/03/2020 21:52

Thankyou for the update @ofwarren 😞

@Puppycorn Thankyou I have signed and shared.

tryingtoprep · 06/03/2020 21:54

Confirmed cases near us. DP taking it seriously now.

I always have gastro resistant aspirin 75mg at home for emergencies. I also have co-codamol (for bad period pain) but I don't think codeine's safe to take with pneumonia or breathing difficulties.

I said it on another thread yesterday. I'll be absolutely furious if Parliament brings forward recess. They want no shutdowns, they need to lead by example.

The downplaying is dangerous. Lots of people are probably too scared to face reality. UK policy isn't helping this. There'll be more panic if and when the shit hits the fan.

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 21:54

off to sign thanks @Puppycorn

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 21:58

Well there is a news now the suspected old man who was diagnosed with pneumonia was put up in public ward and had numerous visitors.

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 21:59

Just shared that I've signed the petition on FB.... now awaiting the backlash from smart alec people

84TinsOfBeans · 06/03/2020 22:00

This is the nearest thing I can find for Wales @MoonlightMistletoe

@Boreda still only 2

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 22:00

It's everywhere @Puppycorn :(

Coughsyrupsucks · 06/03/2020 22:02

My daughter’s school (private) sent out a letter today stating that they are sorting everything so the kids can be taught at home via computer. So work will be sent via the school network and video classes will be implemented. So I think they are preparing for the kids not to come back after half term as we only have 2 weeks left of term. I cannot wait to just have her home, and to not have to worry every day.

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 22:02

It’s sad that the government and the country is trying to put economy first during this crisis instead of being proactive and preventive. Finding a balance is not possible at all I think

Coughsyrupsucks · 06/03/2020 22:04

And some super wonderful volunteers on Reddit have put this map together so you can track the virus and where it’s popping up from government and new sources www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1yCPR-ukAgE55sROnmBUFmtLN6riVLTu3&hl=en_GB

wherearemychickens · 06/03/2020 22:05

I don't normally bother buying hand gel - upstairs bathroom has bar soap, and downstairs bathroom has an old hand wash bottle that I refill with washing up liquid - this is what we've been using as we come in to the house. I'm assuming as we are aiming to dissolve a lipid layer on the virus and wash it away that washing up liquid will do the job just as effectively as hand wash, but now I'm worrying I'm wrong - what do people think?

peachgreen · 06/03/2020 22:08

I'm worried about where to keep everything too. I usually keep tins etc in the garage but it's not very secure. I wish I could believe myself when I tell myself I'm being overly anxious but I'm starting to think we're right to be this scared.

tryingtoprep · 06/03/2020 22:08

Thanks for the petition link @Puppycorn

Why can't the government ask all employers to allow (or even insist) wfh for all jobs that can. I keep seeing reports of companies sending employees home to work - after cases are confirmed. You do it before it happens to prevent it happening!

@itsnotjustflu Italy, I suspect they had lots of undiagnosed cases before their shutdown. The incubation period is longer than two weeks.
