Prepping For Pandemic..... 11

Thread 11.

This prepping for a pandemic pack was posted one one of the previous threads, I thought I’d post for this thread as there’s more people joining the threads. I had a quick scan through the last couple of thread to find a list that’s been posted a few times but couldn’t find it. The pack seems a bit end of days in some parts buts it’s got some useful ideas.

Pandemic Preparedness Pack

The Emotional Prep thread started by @Neome might be worth a look for those of us feeling anxious as things ramp up.

Also attached a screenshot of a post on previous threads by @blackeyesusan (hope you don’t mind) with storage ideas for those of us living in smaller homes.

We’re growing tomatoes, salads, peppers, chilli, kale, peas and beans, carrots, purple sprouting broccoli, raspberries, spinach and herbs like basil. We also have chickens, so 6 eggs per day.

So far we have fresh salad in the greenhouse- everything else is just tiny sprouts!

bobbbbby · 06/03/2020 20:37

So I'm as prepped as possible but, haven't got a plan for what to do in the house if one of us parents or one of the DC get it. I know they are now asking people with it to stay home if mild, but can't get my head round logistics of quarantine if one of the kids get it. We don't have a spare room so not sure where I would sleep if hubby caught it (& vice versa)

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 20:45

@MoonlightMistletoe Me too. The news was very upsetting to be honest and I’m seething with rage that they are not closing schools or atleast leaving the option to parents. Dd (5) doesn’t understand much and gets very upset if I ask her to wash her hands more often. The dryness I get after all the washing is horrible . Thankfully I have a tub left of working hands cream.

Today while picking up dd I could see some parents maintaining distance while waiting but once they are out it’s all crowded again. I still can’t understand how contact tracing is going to help after I saw the crowd all together. This taking-chances and going to work/school thing is super annoying too.

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 20:53

@bobbbbby family quarantine is the only option. We have decided if one gets all of us risk it than quarantining (there is no way my dd(5) will sleep separately or quarantine

My concentration has gone to shit today- not surprising really- and I can’t find geographic breakdown. Can anyone gently point me in the right direction please? It’s Devon specifically that I’m after, I’ve seen there are 7 cases in the county, but no more details. Are they in the public domain yet?

NatoPMT · 06/03/2020 20:58

CEO for Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness call’s Coronavirus the “most frightening disease Ive ever encountered”

Googling him, he’s worked on SARS, MERS, Ebola

I don’t like this

NatoPMT · 06/03/2020 21:04

Thanks for the onion tips. I’ve just cooked it all 🤦‍♀️

I’m trying to copy a Laura’s Idea Lentil dish. Not going well. And husband just ate half of it.

Pebble21uk · 06/03/2020 21:04

Cookies - 3 are in Torbay, one a pupil at Churstin Grammar School plus an adult relative, and one a primary pupil from Brixham.
The others have not been released re location, but Council HQ in Honiton have been closed due to a suspected case.
Devon Live website is quite a good source of local information.

84TinsOfBeans · 06/03/2020 21:09

It's so frustrating not knowing the areas? Anyone know anything about the numbers in Wales? Last count was two.

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 21:11

@GalOopNorth Sounds lovely 🙂 last year I grew some tomatoes and chilli peppers, also couple of David Austen roses which was a gift from my mum. I’m an amateur gardener but would love to do some planting this time too. Do you know anywhere I can get a table height planter that’s pocket friendly? Was eyeing the vegtrug in costco today which looked ideal but it’s too expensive for now to spend on

MoonlightMistletoe · 06/03/2020 21:14

@Puppycorn I must say I am relieved it's Friday but I am already dreading Monday. I don't understand what they mean by "we have to do things at the right time" right time for them or for us?
If we lockdown now then the virus won't have anywhere else to go I honestly cannot get my head around it, why wait until it gets worse?

The news of the increased cases are upsetting let alone the announced deaths.

@NatoPMT well that sent shivers down my spine.

NatoPMT · 06/03/2020 21:15

Hancock is pledging hijacking supermarket stocks to deliver to feed self isolated people, Supermarket sources told BBC it’s not possible. Tesco drivers are saying they will sue if they have to deliver to self isolated customers

It’s ok in a house, but deliveries to blocks if flats etc I can see being a problem for them

PHE telling people to stock up, in direct contradiction to the politicians telling people not to

Never this must be the 5th time I’ve said this and they keep proving me right... don’t listen to the politicians

NatoPMT · 06/03/2020 21:16

Did me too @MoonlightMistletoe, a cold shiver. Very fucking cold.

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 21:16

@NatoPMT Lentils are largely a part of indian cuisine. Let me know if you need any help.

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 21:19

@MoonlightMistletoe it says Milton Keynes is zero but the news has reported one death. Not sure which is true

84TinsOfBeans · 06/03/2020 21:19

Thanks @MoonlightMistletoe that's great.
I'll try and find a welsh equivalent and post a link.

mindproject · 06/03/2020 21:23

This virus is making the best of us paranoid. I've been following a few YouTube conspiracy theorists for a while, maintaining my scepticism at all times. But now I'm really starting to entertain the depopulation theory I've been hearing about so much. Someone please tell me the elite/powerful/influential are all lovely and have our best interests at heart.

preponderings · 06/03/2020 21:23

Nor me NatoPMT

Going out early tomorrow for a last shop.
Dried fruits and nuts (DC ate my store, underestimated!)
Easter eggs
UHT milk (can you freeze it?)
Soup cartons
Bleach
Bathroom cleaner
Cloths
Toilet paper.

What have I forgotten?!

DH has to answer a Questionnaire today at work about use of public transport, ability to work from home. Problem is, there's a limited number of parking spaces so if more people start going by car, he'll have trouble getting a space. He did make a comment about he dreaded to think what the final shop would be like before a two week isolation. Looked a bit shocked when I said all we need is milk and we'll be good for two, maybe three weeks, if the loo paper lasts...

MoonlightMistletoe · 06/03/2020 21:23

@84TinsOfBeans so sorry I didn't realise it was only England's! I had a look on the Wales gov site however it said no further details of the 2 cases are being released due to patient confidentiality.

MoonlightMistletoe · 06/03/2020 21:25

@mindproject makes you wonder doesn't it!

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 21:27

@NatoPMT That doesn’t sound good at all. People please let me know approximately how many days do we need to stock up if this hits the roof. I’m also worried if I stock up a little more where to keep it safe as I am scared there will definitely be some unrest and stealing cropping up everywhere (worried esp after reading that people are stealing sanitisers from hosp)

middleager · 06/03/2020 21:27

Preponderings
Pet food? Flea treatments?
Hopefully my cats will be tick free and full at least.

preponderings · 06/03/2020 21:31

No pets, just DC!

sideorderofchips · 06/03/2020 21:33

@Puppycorn work on the basis of two weeks. Once that's sorted then keep going. I'm aiming for a month over all
