Prepping For Pandemic..... 11

Thread 11.

This prepping for a pandemic pack was posted one one of the previous threads, I thought I’d post for this thread as there’s more people joining the threads. I had a quick scan through the last couple of thread to find a list that’s been posted a few times but couldn’t find it. The pack seems a bit end of days in some parts buts it’s got some useful ideas.

Pandemic Preparedness Pack

The Emotional Prep thread started by @Neome might be worth a look for those of us feeling anxious as things ramp up.

Emotional Prep Thread

Also attached a screenshot of a post on previous threads by @blackeyesusan (hope you don’t mind) with storage ideas for those of us living in smaller homes.

BanKittenHeels

Thank you for everything you do and 😂😂😂 to the daily mail 🤣🤣🤣

Yes no loo roll in our Tesco.. no own brand pasta. I feel bad I have what I need but some OAPs might not. But I have been this since Jan after my Bretix stash was run down.

I did buy the garden centre hand wash today. £2.99 for 40ml 🤯 and initially the ingredients seemed rubbish but its 62% alcohol. They are the type with personalised names on. Unfortunately they didnt have "pleased prepper" so I got two of these ( unlimited and lots left) for either my mum or sister. If I see more s and when I will buy them.to give out if they ever come back in stock in the main shops.

So have a look about in places others wont think of as they do pop up. There was about 100 left on this particular display

I have never given Sambucol to my dd until now but I placed an order anyway to have in stock after someone suggested it as good. Just received an update from the GP’s that no online appointments will be available until further notice and if we need one we might need to que up there at 7.30 am. (Very unlikely that they will have any - even in Normal days they never have any)

Anyone else really reluctant to dip into stocked up food? DS wants tuna pasta for tea.... whereas I'm regretting not buying more tuna and pasta (we have loads). I just really want to avoid shopping but equally hate seeing the food being eaten lol.......

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 16:34

@itsnotjustflu same with me. Dh wanted to try couple of new snack I had ordered like dried fruits and I was so stressed I wanted to order more again just in case he delves himself into the stock 😂

Posters are now up in my daughters primary school informing parents that the government are fully prepared for Covid-19 along with the Catch it,Bin it ,Kill it posters.

If we believe that we will believe anything!
Wouldnt trust our government to organise a piss up in a brewery!

Thieves in Germany have been stealing protective masks as well as disinfectant, from trains, hospitals, hotels and public toilets, according to media reports. Large quantities of disinfectant and masks were also stolen from a children’s cancer ward at the Berlin hospital Charité

From the Guardian. I am horrified but not surprised.

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 16:42

@MoonlightMistletoe it’s very stressful to read news like this isn’t it.. esp my dh works in IT industry and already this Brexit and Ir35 has hit small businesses like his so hard.. He is between contracts now and didn’t have a proper contract since January . it’s so hard because there are now no outside ir35 roles and every contract is inside ir35 (which is more like permanent role with less pay and without any kind of benefits or bonuses) that makes it hard to make ends meet. He is also trying for perm roles but I highly doubt if someone will hire in this situation .we are so scared now to be without a job in this scenario and the war chest is almost empty with all the spending for past 3 months already.

Sanblasamor · 06/03/2020 16:48

I had my final top up shop delivered today to feel fairly well prepped now. It was from tesco and nothing at all missing, the only substitute was low salt stock for normal. All items there including paracetamol adults and kids liquid, loo roll, antibac handwash. Various tins and frozen items, pasta, noodles etc. I was pleasantly surprised! Will just hope to do normal shops with the odd extra here or there now until needing to start using stocks.

Thank you to everyone on this thread, I've been lurking all the way along and have never been a prepped before so the information has been invaluable along with this being the only place I get updates from as it feels so balanced.

middleager · 06/03/2020 16:53

Good to see thread 11!

I was in Coop earlier when the assistant said that one woman had been in and bought all 6 trays of hand gel. The young assistant shrugged and said "what can you do?" Er, ration it to 2 per customer maybe?

I digress. I've never been much of a tablet taker but have some paracetomol/ibuprofen in.

Can somebody explain how asprin differs (sorry for being stupid) and if I need co-codomol in stock. I'm afraid I don't know the difference here either (a woman in gloves came in to the pharmacy to buy a thermometer, Strepsils and Co-codomol and it got me wondering if I need a box?)

Legoandloldolls · 06/03/2020 16:58

Tesco limits hand get to 6 per customer ( not there is any) Sainsburys is 2. Why cant every shop ration sales now? I got my six in primark two Mondays ago so I'm fine

twins2019 · 06/03/2020 16:59

Cocodamol is paracetamol and codeine - it's stronger as a pain killer than paracetamol. It shouldn't be used for very long and should only be used if paracetamol isn't taking the edge of the pain.

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 17:00

@puppycorn I didn't mind stocking up before we had UK cases but now I'd rather just not have to. We have lots of new things to try though and I am going to always replace when I can ... Forever

@middleager I never take any medicine...also stocked up but need I more Calpol.

I fear the UK will end up like Germany

Well done Tesco Smile

twins2019 · 06/03/2020 17:00

Also just had an email from David Lloyd asking people not to take the hand sanitiser they have put in the gym....

RageAgainst84 · 06/03/2020 17:00

The BBC coverage of this has definitely taken a different tone today.

They just had some numpty answering questions on why the stock market is reacting to Covid19 so harshly when they don’t do that for flu - the guy they had on said because Coronavirus is getting so much media coverage (twice!). Eehhh no! It’s because there will be so many deaths and a massive impact on the economy, health service and supply chains!!! That’s why!

I think they are clearly under instruction to try and calm things down to avoid panic. But it means people don’t realise the true extent of the impact.

Fuckers

NatoPMT · 06/03/2020 17:02

On another thread there is a list posted by what looks like borough on numbers of positive tests

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3840590-worried-about-coronavirus-covid19-part-14?pg=26&order=

It would help if I could just post the post but I can’t work out how

Legoandloldolls · 06/03/2020 17:02

Asprin thinks blood. Good idea to have in case of heart attack symptoms but not needed for covid-19

RageAgainst84 · 06/03/2020 17:03

Also, £46m is piss all! What are local councils getting a so that they and their public health teams can respond? 😡

Legoandloldolls · 06/03/2020 17:05

I have them in the house as I need them in pregnancy as had pre-eclampsia.

Everyone should really have a small box of them. If you get chest pains and suspect a heart attack, pop one under your tounge and call 999/ 111 ( 111 will just send it over to 999 if your not sure.)

middleager · 06/03/2020 17:09

Thanks for the information re over the counter medication.

I forgot to add that the assistant in Coop said the one brand of handgel (mini Carex) couldn't be ordered now but she was just unpacking another lot. Unlike the mass tray buyer, I bought two minis.

She said people had bought lots of loo roll, but while I was there everything was well topped up.

Giggorata · 06/03/2020 17:10

Yes, I’d like to add my thanks to all preppers on this thread; your advice and research has been invaluable. I have discovered so many useful tips and items which have contributed a lot to my stash and my peace of mind over the last few months. At least we won't starve, and the info and updates make me feel as well informed as possible.
I'm wfh as much as poss, and avoiding crowds. I've got nearly as much loo roll as that family in Australia, enough Paracetomol to poison half the village and Sheldon-red hands from all the washing. 🙂

BanKittenHeels · 06/03/2020 17:11

We have two confirmed cases as of this afternoon in one of those boroughs, which is labelled as zero.
Also verified in the press.

Giggorata · 06/03/2020 17:13

Paracetamol, I mean.
