Just caught a bit of a special programme on R4 with Nick Robinson and a 'pretend' COBRA meeting made up of some of the kind of people who would attend COBRA meetings.

Very interesting - worth catching up on via BBC Sounds if it's available on there

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 09:40

I don't usually call ahead @Bloomedagain but I've never asked in adult services. I think you should probably call anyway, just so they are aware you are going to ask that when you arrive.
Take your hand gel and try to keep a distance from people.
Don't shake hands with the staff either. I wish doctors wouldn't do that to be honest.
I hope it goes well.

rhij86 · 04/03/2020 09:40

@NatoPMT hopefully your friend is right and it's just really unlucky timing! I'm assuming he has been told to stay in his room until he gets the results?

Legoandloldolls · 04/03/2020 09:42

If Australia has run out of loo roll, we should run out of tea surely before loo roll. It's the "go to" UK cure all.

Stressed? Tea
Shock? Tea
Want to relax? Tea

I'm trying to see how many loo rolls my family use in a week. It's not as much as I thought so far.

BloomedAgain · 04/03/2020 09:44

Thank ofwarren will do!

Puppycorn · 04/03/2020 09:48

I’m super annoyed today after the school run. They aren’t allowing handgels inside and when I applied some on dd’s hand before she entered , I saw a staff looking at me who asked my dd to wash her hands right away when she went in and walked in. I think I need to have a good talk today with the school.

NatoPMT · 04/03/2020 09:55

I hadn’t either witch doctor - I only tried them as they were mentioned on an open letter from a microbiologist or dr or someone verily knowledgeable that was posted on here

Thanks Rhij - he was collected and put in a clinic yesterday but not sure if he’s back at the hotel yet.

My local pharmacy has loads of lozenges - I just thought, as one seller had put them on amazon for £98 yesterday (!!@?£@!)... if those on here who have health conditions / age making them vulnerable, I could buy some and put them as an unfindable listing on eBay at cost price and send you the link to get them to you

WitchDoc · 04/03/2020 10:00

I would be asking if they were implementing regular, monitored & thorough hand washing into the school day if mine weren't their allowed hand gel in school @Puppycorn

Puppycorn · 04/03/2020 10:03

@WitchDoc thank you .. ordered some just in case .. I just had two boots hand foams which I got months ago as I buy them regularly when I travel.(trust me, I have never seen anyone other than myself buying that before lol and it was always in stock) But now I can’t even find one on the shelves.

WitchDoc · 04/03/2020 10:11

Welcome @Puppycorn I'm one of those who's never used the foam either but read in reviews it was better so brought a pack just in case. Also brought the hand wash for bathroom and kitchen as it'll be gentler on everyone's hands if we're using alcohol based outside the home... I wasn't going to risk putting on here without buying some first😂

WitchDoc · 04/03/2020 10:15

In fact before this I was never fussed much about germs or housework at all beyond washing my hands after the loo.

Coronavirus: NHS worker tests positive for killer bug after returning from Italy

itsnotjustflu · 04/03/2020 10:24

I need to do an online Boots order but I would like to combine it with getting some more antibac soap and gel. If anyone spots it coming back to stock please post in here thank you......

YoursTunbridgeWells · 04/03/2020 10:25

From that Mirror article

*Professor Whitty said the NHS would cope with a major spread of cases but could come under "very high pressure" in a large epidemic.

He told BBC Breakfast there could be a need to do "extreme things" to protect the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions.*

I wonder what "extreme things" means?

Legoandloldolls · 04/03/2020 10:27

I really hate people profiteering from hand gel etc on Ebay. I wonder what ebay do if we report them?

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 10:28

I'd like to know what extreme things yours too
Feeling like my family is extremely vulnerable right now.

WitchDoc · 04/03/2020 10:31

Does it have to be specifically boots? @itsnotjustflu Superdrug has dettol soap & hand gel in stock online if that's any help?

BloomedAgain · 04/03/2020 10:31

Yes I'd also like to know the extreme things!

Legoandloldolls · 04/03/2020 10:32

It seems you can't report them as there is no category. Bloody Ebay letting arseholes selling 50p hand gel for £17!

That's why no one can find it in the shops. Dicks are buying in in bulk to sell on

BloomedAgain · 04/03/2020 10:34

Alcohol gel and normal soap is fine.
I'm using 15p tesco bar soap at home @ItsNotJustFlu

NEW: Germany bans export of medical protection gear due to coronavirus - AFP

MoonlightMistletoe · 04/03/2020 10:39

I also would like to know what the extreme things would be.
Having a chat with my Nan who's over 70 about her medication and if she would be ok food wise if she'd need to self isolate.
I'm worried about her I won't lie, my nans house is a place where all the family come to meet and visit regularly. One family member is due to come back from Malaysia this week and another is going to Italy and will be coming back and I am fearing they won't self isolate and my nan gets it.

CallistoSol · 04/03/2020 10:41

Re Ebay sellers profiteering, Ebay take a % cut of every sale, the more expensive the item, the more money Ebay makes. I no longer use Ebay as I got badly ripped off by a buyer and Ebay/PayPal couldn't have been less helpful. No surprise at all they allow profiteering.

Giggorata · 04/03/2020 10:44

I have some tea tree oil, which apparently has some antiviral properties, as someone said upthread... although it is unsafe for use with children and pets. I have been using it in hand gel. There hasn't been a run on it in shops...yet.

itsnotjustflu · 04/03/2020 10:45

@WitchDoc yeah has to be Boots as I need some more No.7 make up :) thanks though

@MoonlightMistletoe We live around the corner from my MIL who isn't well at all. She struggles to look after herself when there isn't any major health issues around. She is absent minded and even if quarantined I fear she's still go out and about

I had read though that they didn't want to isolate the elderley from social things. It's a fine line between telling them to stay home yet still be social. She also has a lot of medication and it doesn't help that the NHS only give out a month at a time. She's slowly going blind and there is a simple op the NHS can do to fix it but it's been put back and put back and now it's looking like she has bob hope of having it any time soon :( What people can't have done is a worry. She's not prepped enough either so taking her to Morrisons this week
