I am feeling mightly pissed off with people today. Basically, the majority of people only give a stuff about themselves.

Puppycorn · 04/03/2020 08:50

@AspergersMum that’s a very useful map. Thank you. It gives a whole picture if you ask me.

@MoonlightMistletoe true. I’m happy dh is on board with me on this. He says he will wear one and doesn't care what others say (also if someone takes a pic he is planning to confidently pose & believes it will create more awareness.😀 he says it will give others a little peace of mind too if they are in lifts etc because dh said he felt very exposed and not do anything about it when he was using the office lift the other day)

WokClock · 04/03/2020 08:53

Thanks Veneto for the Italy updates and hope you are all starting to feel better.

I keep thinking I’m sorted and then there is talk of zinc lozenges! Have ordered some from ebay.

I do a lot of selling on eBay and had an email from them yesterday about coronavirus including the following;

listings that attempt to profit from tragedies and disasters (such as the Coronavirus outbreak) are prohibited.

Effieray · 04/03/2020 08:57

In Australia there has been panic buying of toilet roll, so much so that shops are totally out of it and it is selling for $500 Australian dollars on eBay. I wonder if people started to panic buy because of possible self-isolation, and then others saw lower stock on the shelves and brought lots due to possible shortages? Anyway, another good reason to be a Prepper and already have stocks of it to use & share with others if this situation happens in U.K.

(& why is toilet roll always the first thing people think of panic buying? Hmm)

michaelbaubles · 04/03/2020 09:02

I do wonder whether people are really looking around when they say "it's only old people" - I for one have many friends and family members who are over 60 who are NOT retired, not just sitting at home whiling their days away, they're active, valued and important members of the family, they're not just counting down the days until death but could and should have decades of good life ahead of them.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/03/2020 09:03

I'd hang off on using masks at the moment. Risk is still very very low, this is going to go on for months. I'd save them for if they are needed. Remember, it's much much better for everybody if there are sufficient quantities for those who are potentially infected, or if they became a mandated item.

The same with hand gel. If some people have bazillions, it means that others can't keep their hands clean when out and about. That's bad for all of us.

Effieray · 04/03/2020 09:03

@moonlightmistletoe

It's almost as if this outbreak is beginning to divide us into two groups of people... the sheeple 🐑 who blindly accept everything the government is telling them, who don't think for themselves and have little self-awareness of other people's needs.

Then those of us who are researching, questioning, reporting and analysing what we are being told and the data for ourselves, putting reasonable plans into place like being prepared and considering the needs of people other than ourselves.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/03/2020 09:03

Numbers have gone up by two for UK on worldometer

BlackeyedSusan · 04/03/2020 09:09

Some of the so called sheeple may have thought about it and come to a different conclusion. Just like Brexit, leavers/ remainers, different political parties etc.

Some may be prepping but not telling you about it. If I were interviewed, I would deny all knowledge of stocking up.

MissusMaker · 04/03/2020 09:09

I was thinking through how we will manage at home if we catch it, particularly my two children who both have underlying health issues (even though I know it is supposed to be mild in children). Anyway I was thinking that keeping the children hydrated is important and ice lollies are great for that but my freezer is quite full - so I'm going to buy a pack of ice poles/ice pops which are great because you can freeze a few at a time and keep the rest at room temp. Just sharing incase it's useful for anyone...

NEW: Germany reports 38 new cases of coronavirus, raising country's total to 240 t.co/eUoE2b20hL

EliK · 04/03/2020 09:13

Anyone heard where the new Scottish cases might be?

BloomedAgain · 04/03/2020 09:17

I'm trying to work out what to do. I'm very immune suppressed but am due some medical outpatient appointments which will help diagnose and treat a secondary problem I have. I'm thinking it's best to go into hospital now than in later months as this will go on for months. My GP has said I should do what I feel is best.

lemonjumper · 04/03/2020 09:19

@EliK I think there will be a proper announcement later on. It'll be interesting to see if they are linked to the first case or not.

FleetsumNLangCleg · 04/03/2020 09:19

Have arranged to go to the Women Say event in London on the 8th. Am a country mouse so involves travel, hotel... should I cancel?

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 09:20

@Bloomedagain
I would go to the appointments.
Could you ask for a side room rather than sit in a waiting room?
That's what I do with my immune suppressed son.

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 09:21

Switzerland reports the first #COVID19 case in St. Gallen. A young student who was in Milan from 21 to 23 February tested positive for coronavirus.

savethecat · 04/03/2020 09:25

The handwashing message is definitely falling short and somewhat impractical. My kids go to an all-boys school and I asked them about handwashing. The reply was that no one really uses the toilets if they can help it so pretty much no-one would be hand washing at all in the day.

Been awake since 3:30 trying to be the early bird who got the hand sanitizer

Found this company

no-germs.com/uk/coronavirus/

Says it kills swine flu, h1n1, bird flu, MRSA & is currently used in NHS hospitals and looks to be gentler on the hands.
What do you think?

NatoPMT · 04/03/2020 09:32

Zinc lozenges update

No cold symptoms at all today. Took one lozenge this morning but more as a just in case.

My friend gets his results tomorrow - he’s convinced it’s seasonal flu. He’s not had flu for 15 years, but as soon a threatened pandemic happens, he thinks he’s caught flu, not the pandemic virus 😂

Who knows, maybe he’s right

Valkarie · 04/03/2020 09:33

@yourstunbridgewells I wouldn't want to check on my elderly neighbour as I could be a symptomless carrier, but would happily swap phone numbers and leave food etc on her door step.

Dp already does an internet shop for a relative that lives far away, so has ensured that the favourites are up to date in case I need to order if he is too ill. It's a pre-paid debit card, so that protects the relative from people having access to their bank details. It is something people can consider if they normally help out relatives or friends, but are not able to get there.

BloomedAgain · 04/03/2020 09:33

Thank you @ofwarren should I call ahead to notify them? I have a cardiology appointment next week.
In prepping terms I've ordered some complan in case I'm ill and am also looking for solar powered power packs. Can anyone recommend some? They'll be useful for my hopefully healthy future as I used to go camping.

Legoandloldolls · 04/03/2020 09:36

Re going to events. I have been thinking and we arent in the expedentail growth phase yet in the UK. Maybe this is the time to travel, see elderly family, before we start seeing large new cases every day. Before it kicks off?

I'm going out drinks, club in London at the end of the month and might drive to see my mum in the next week while I can check her prep out

WitchDoc · 04/03/2020 09:37

@NatoPMT

I ordered yesterday from Amazon. Should arrive by Monday. Thank you for your review as never tried anything like them beforeSmile
