@poshme I'd seen rumours about there being issues with medication a few days ago. I've been picking up paracetamol/asprin/calpol each time I pop into a shop (a pack each time) since Monday, just to be safe. It will all get used eventually so won't go to waste.

Prepper on ITV at the moment. Very sensible but getting slated.

Though clearly she isn’t aware of the first rule of prepping .....

NatoPMT · 05/03/2020 08:41

Thanks poshme - I’m not sure how constitutionally it would work but they should’ve explained how the cabinet will continue to function alongside a recessed parliament - if it will, that is.

The idea that the cabinet might have to still function under non parliament / no opposition conditions, passing emergency legislation potentially isn’t much more reassuring

NatoPMT · 05/03/2020 08:41

Lol at trees

Duckyneedsaclean · 05/03/2020 08:42

Thanks @NotJustACigar for the heads up about superdrug, have ordered a couple of bottles to my mum's house.

Pet cats and dogs cannot pass the new coronavirus on to humans, but they can test positive for low levels of the pathogen if they catch it from their owners. t.co/i61dHjhnRD

Three more patients have tested positive for coronavirus in Scotland, taking the total number of confirmed cases across the UK to 90.

Mornin'Brew

Just catching up on posts now.
Tesco update from last nights trip (7pm)
Low on fresh fruit & veg, no bread mixes, no Dettol spray but a few packets of wipes were still on the shelves. Found bottles of Milton spray so took 2 and left 2.
I'm finding a bottle lasts about a week wiping down surfaces, door handles, light switches & banisters daily.

Lady on the checkout said she'd served a couple wearing masks & gloves earlier in the day stocking up (Found this surprising as we are a small, rural town & people are still playing it down on local fb pages)
Lady on the checkout is still off abroad on her holidays in JuneGrin

Drive home nearly ended up in divorce. DH thinks I'm being hysterical asking him to use hand gel once we're in the car, before we get home to wash our hands & then wash hands again once shopping is away.

This morning DH received confirmation exhibition he was attending has been cancelled in Germany. Struggled to not say 'I told you so 5 weeks ago'
Instead said 'Why? They're being hysterical. It's just the flu!!!'😂

DH brother & wife is flying out to Tenerife today, booked it a couple of days ago as cheap flights apparently. Trouble is DH is suppose to meeting up with his brother for a weekend away together in a few weeks & that will be happening over my dead body now but he will blame me, not his brother who's just jetted away...

... I just hope our DC have inherited their brain cells from side of the family!

Puppycorn · 05/03/2020 09:11

Book day fun - DD had a full meltdown already.. she wanted to dress up as frozen 2 Elsa .. she was all excited in the morning but then after dressing up she went into a full blown meltdown ..she thinks she doesn’t look like elsa at all even if she wears the dress and has the white long plait hairband ..dh was like why doesn’t disney do an Indian princess version as it’s a land of maharajas and ranis anyway. Just back from dd’s breakfast reading .. I’m sure I can’t handle it with all the people still doing handshakes and the crowd in a small room ffs .. I’m thinking of pulling out dd as soon as I can.. the school doesn’t seem concerned at all

WitchDoc · 05/03/2020 09:18

@Givemeabreakpls Things like Frubes can be frozen, used as space fillers once taken out the box & might be helpful for sore throats. Those crepe things that come in wrappers & have a longish shelf life?

LittleSwede · 05/03/2020 09:20

puppycorn my DD is off ill today (doctors yesterday and antibiotics prescription fir cough) and I haven't dare break it to her that she's missing World Book Day. She was going as Elsa too, new costume arrived in post Sunday. I'm expecting meltdown later!

DH has taken to a homestead approach of prepping, went to buy more flour, sugar and yeast yesterday and bought the only packet of yeast left on the shelf. Apparently flour and sugar was low in stock too.

Puppycorn · 05/03/2020 09:20

@NatoPMT@nannynick@Effieray@FuckThisWind@ofwarren Thank you for the Will advice. I think I should seriously consider this now and keep some money away to get it done at the earliest.

They have just put a printed notice up at a grown ups eye level on one main door that leads to the classrooms from the reception . It just says “Coronavirus Advice” wash hands often and sing happy birthday twice. Nothing else. So I think it’s time to write my will. (I don’t know why Tom from “Tom and Jerry” writing a will and lying down with white flower in the coffin keeps playing in my mind lol)

NewYearNewTwatName · 05/03/2020 09:20

I just popped to Tescos to replace what we've used. All seems fine, a few little gaps here and there eg certain pasta looking depleted slightly, but plenty of pasta on the shelves. Bog roll situation all good fully stocked shelves. No hand gel but there hasn't been for weeks.(really think Tesco should restrict sales to 2 per person)

all other shelves and fresh produce were normal.

WitchDoc · 05/03/2020 09:21

Would love to see them take on volunteering roles in the NHS if Parliament closes for a while.....

Brilliant!

Blueberryham · 05/03/2020 09:23

Does anyone else feel like mentioning Coronavirus or any concern about it is a really taboo thing to discuss? If I mention at all to aquaintances they almost recoil with horror that I brought it up and then tell me they aren’t worried

NewYearNewTwatName · 05/03/2020 09:29

4 days agos was the first conversation I had at work about coronavirus. Someone brought it up about how concerned they felt about it. since then its seems most are happy to talk openly now. With most expressing anger about the governments total lack of information after the press conference, and utter disbelief that they said to carry on shaking hands.

sideorderofchips · 05/03/2020 09:32

I managed to get superdrug hand sanitizer yesterday. Didn't realise it was daily going up but I don't need anymore now

WitchDoc · 05/03/2020 09:47

I'm with you on the full Christmas dinner @noodledoodler & you @MinesaPinotPlease on the Christmas cake🎅🏻🎄 We still have 3 different Christmas puddings, Brandy & rum sauce in the bunker from the last 2yrs we didn't eat them!

Thank you to the others for the reviews on NO GERMS. I too wasn't sure but wasn't going to risk not getting them. Still have 9 bottles of Milton hand sanitizers here & I'm hoping that will be enough between the 4 of us to last until we know as a country what we're doing or the shops restock. The others really will only be used as a last resort or in 'normal times'

Funkycats · 05/03/2020 09:59

Re the shortage of hand gel, I think it's just a question of shopping pattern changing. Most people don't routinely buy it, so even if most people now buy just a couple of bottles, demand will increase supply.
I read that the manufacturers are working on getting more out there.
A pp said there was plenty in London (at time of posting anyway) I imagine London is a place where there is usually higher demand anyway, and more people would already have some as a matter of course, due to high population density and all the public transport.
Most people I know are talking about it with a bit of gallows humour, and making reasonable attempts to take precautions. All doing essential stuff but mostly avoiding unnecessary trips.
DH job is office based and they are talking about WFH, and mine entails going into people's homes. Can't stop that but I am trying very hard to do all the protective procedures. It's really hard not touching your face, isn't it?

WitchDoc · 05/03/2020 10:00

One last thing & I'll stop posting (promise!)

Easter eggs were 75p at Tesco entrance. I can't remember seeing them that cheap before? Maybe they're trying to clear stock before the inevitable??
Grabbed a couple just in case as haven't even thought about Easter yet

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 05/03/2020 10:07

The Derbyshire cases can't be the Belper couple - they were being tested due to being contacts of a known case (not necessarily in Belper), and the new cases apparently caught it in Italy.

The only sub I had in my Ocado order this week was Ocado red peppers instead of Waitrose brand. I find them to be very good with stock control, and haven't been having issues.

@ofwarren - you asked about a paper in NEJM at the end of the last thread. It was referenced in the government document, and is the only paper confirming that one child (0-14yrs old) has been classified as catching a "severe" case of the disease.
It's worth noting that they looked at 1099 patients across 552 Chinese hospitals overall, and that there were only 8 "non-severe" hospital cases.

I went elsewhere on MN last night and came across a thread started to effectively slate preppers calling them selfish. I must be naive (and in fairness I've been feeling sorry for myself with tonsillitis), but I was really surprised and upset by the sheer vitriol Sad

pemberlyshades · 05/03/2020 10:13

I think a lot of people that have just started in the last month or so may frustrate the head-in-sand brigade- but if you're a long term prepper (as I am) then we are actually less selfish at the moment. We aren't buying up all the stock in shops because we've already got plenty. Try not to let it get to you- people often get angry when they're scared.

pemberlyshades · 05/03/2020 10:14

(That wasn't a criticism of anyone that's recently started prepping btw!!!!)
