Yes I have been worried about the economic situation for a while Sad

Springinsight · 04/03/2020 22:10

Moonlight thanks...

I'm glad this highlights the petrol hand pump!

Been lurking on these threads for a bit, quietly building up some stashes. Fridge, cupboards and freezer full, medicines stocked up, tissues, wipes, dettol, handsoap a plenty, full tank, a tonne of chocolate, decent supply of wine. Shelves tonight in lidl had lots of empty spaces. Feels like getting ready for christmas, family think I am mad already tho I keep reminding them that even if we don't get sick we may have to self isolate or quarantine and they'll be glad I planned ahead. Decided tonight if isolation or such happens and we all stay well I am doing a full christmas dinner with all this food, who fancies joining me? I'm ready. Smile

2 patients at kings in south London have tested positive - they were in hospital for different reasons ( these are within the released figs today) and it seems they were tested as general population assessment

So they are silent

LAX Medical Screener Tests Positive For #Coronavirus

JustMeAndMyTins · 04/03/2020 22:27

@NatoPMT Ah f*ck. That is quite literally a mile down my actual road, I get off the bus at the stop before every day en route to the train station, I’ve been there several times in the last month and I have a long appointment there next week. I actually postponed surgery I was supposed to be having there last Wednesday (not urgent). Wonderful.

If I’m honest though, I knew Kings was coming sooner rather than later. A part of me feels like I should just go down, lick an armrest and get this over with while there are still beds available.

orthodontix · 04/03/2020 22:29

Thanks for the opinions. We are scaling back where possible. Trying to explain to the DC that this is an unprecedented situation warranting an unprecedented response. But we have GCSEs in the mix as well so that's an added anxiety.

Slovenia reports first case of coronavirus t.co/eUoE2b20hL

Springinsight · 04/03/2020 22:31

😂😂 Just me and my tins 🤣

I know! I feel same. Get it over whilst there is a bloody bed and respirator equipment.

Fuck sake.

Springinsight · 04/03/2020 22:34

Re gcse or dc falling behind at school if off, we are all in this together.

It's a war situation.
All dc will be in same boat.
We are all in the same boat. Allowances have to be made.
Pp said Italy discussed forcing banks to give mortgage breaks.

Any measures to ease people from mixing with others will be in the greater good.

As we are all pretty much prepped I thought I''d bring a little humour to our day.....just seen this. We still have time for all these things as well right?

"Where are we going Piglet?" asked Pooh.

"We need to get supplies," said Piglet. "For the Coronavirus"

"Ahh," said Pooh, nodding in understanding. "Things like bread, milk, cough mixture, tissues and cat litter even though we don't have a cat?"

Piglet did a little laugh, and a sort of leap and bit of a cough. "No," said Piglet. "No, those aren't the sort of supplies we need at all! What we need are family sized bags of chocolate buttons, massive toblerone, jelly babies and crunchies and a freezer full of fillet steak, and all of the champagne that we can possibly carry, so that when we get quarantined we won't mind it even slightly. THOSE are supplies."

All of a sudden, Pooh thought that the idea of coronavirus didn't seem quite so bad, and actually, getting quarantined with Piglet and their supplies really didn't sound such a terrible thing after all. "Oh Piglet," said Pooh. "I really do think you are a very wise animal."

Article here from end Jan on the specialist units available in the country: www.shropshirestar.com/news/uk-news/2020/01/27/what-treatment-could-patients-with-coronavirus-in-the-uk-expect/

Am I the only one putting two and two together and working out that these specialist units must all be full by now?

NatoPMT · 04/03/2020 23:09

@JustMeAndMyTins

my sister worked there for years!

I’ve thought that catching it now might be best too but my Mil has heart failure, husband has to work, child has to be looked after, I might die, etc etc

On the regional news they added that the patients don’t know each other, were admitted at different times and are in different wards

Might have been infected there or not there.

Re: 2mg lozenges

Not sure what the official RDA or short term daily dose fir this use is - you would need to look it up and cross check their suggested dose

The ones I’m taking say max of 16mg Per day and only for the short term - I’m a bit scared of them!!

itsnotjustflu · 04/03/2020 23:09

Feeling proper terrified by all the references to the possibility of stripped back police including not prosecuting small crimes such as burglary. It's like an open invitation

Effieray · 04/03/2020 23:12

"Stock up on TP" everyone is saying. I have been reading (wrongly). I now have ten bottles of TCP Confused

VivaLeBeaver · 04/03/2020 23:14

Ha ha. My crazy mother gargles with TCP every day, reckons it wards off bugs. I imagine she’s bathing in it every day now. Dh always said she reeks of the stuff!

@NatoPMT 😂 well yeah there is that.

I just don’t know how I’m going to deal with the anxiety. And I have a London-commuter-office-life with the ‘it’s just flu’ brigade for mates and co-workers so it feels inevitable. Even though my mam says I won’t get it because she just won’t allow ‘them’ to give it to me ☺️ (I’m 35 and she lives 400 miles away).

GANG! You know how we’ve all been wondering about —stupid— Uber person’s recovery. That interactive map someone linked to shows she recovered!

Beedance · 04/03/2020 23:29

Despite following things for quite a while I am finding it hard to believe this is really happening.

DDs primary school sent out info with the education helpline number and I rang to ask for advice re family members in high risk groups. After hearing details helpline person told me to ring 111 which goes through to Public Health England. They advised me to take DD out of school until the weekend and see if outbreak is contained. (DD has SEN, other family in risk group for severe illness).

Hard to imagine containment will suddenly happen.

I can't ignore PHE advice but it feels like a big step. I don't know whether I need a handhold or a grip.

This is what we've been preparing for, please help me get my head round the reality.

@peachgreen yes, I think the impact on the economy could be enormous. Small businesses could fold, unemployment rise. My DH is military so his job is safe, but I work for a medical company (think luxury optional medical services) so if the economy tanks we may well suffer.
