@Puppycorn my DC co-sleeps and will continue and my DH has his own bed as he will still be out working. I have accepted if one gets it we will all get it I can't stop DC from having physical contact with both of us it would be too confusing and upsetting for everyone.

JustMeAndMyTins · 04/03/2020 20:23

Definitely one in Newcastle. Dad just told me on the phone (I’m in London).

@FaisPasCiFaisPasCa, ‘fluism’ made me actually lol!

Cannot get over how unbothered people are. I literally only know one other person (at work - apparently my friends are in the gung-ho brigade) who is on our team. And my mother is onboard with the prepping, if not the anxiety. I’m finding work (big corporate) very hard right now as I’m supposed to be in the ‘lead the people and calm the panic gang’ when really I’m a special kind of neurotic at the best of times. Confused

JustMeAndMyTins · 04/03/2020 20:27

Oh and you can get zinc lozenges from multiple places online. Just google it. The zincovit ones are actually some of the weakest so, great as they are, don’t limit your search.

@WitchDoc

Found this company

no-germs.com/uk/coronavirus/

Says it kills swine flu, h1n1, bird flu, MRSA & is currently used in NHS hospitals and looks to be gentler on the hands.
What do you think?

I used to work for a company who distributed this during the swine flu period. It's good stuff, my DM who was a nurse at the time said it was far gentler than the NHS standard issue stuff. We sold thousands upon thousands of units.

I've ordered a stash from them.

CNN:
China's Custom Authority says 75 international arrivals into the country have tested positive for the novel coronavirus

Blimey. Full circle.

JustMeAndMyTins · 04/03/2020 20:36

NO Germs is wonderful and my standard sanitiser of choice but I have no faith in it for something like this. I am totally possibly (and hopefully) wrong but it literally feels and smells like water (I grasp that this isn’t very scientific). Just be careful unless it’s a last resort or a low-risk situation.

KundaliniRising · 04/03/2020 20:41

Dont forget preppers, nuts and seeds, a fabulous source of protien, fats as well as vitimins and minerals. Also herbs and spices to make prepp food tasty! Dried garlic, onion, chilli powder, mixed herbs, ginger, tumeric etc can turn a boring meal into something very tasty. Salt and pepper also.

I plan to make a batch of Kimchi tomorrow, as a fermented condiment it is fab for keeping up the good gut bacteria and keeps for months in a cold environment/fridge.

There may be a bright side to this virus after all Grin

New case in Belfast - at my DH's workplace. It's a huge organisation and there's no reason to believe he would have had direct contact with the person but I'm still pretty beside myself. Apparently they're "conducting investigations" - wish they'd just shut the place down already. Ugh. Not sure what to do really, DH can't WFH until instructed to and even then we have a toddler so I've no idea how much work either of us would get done.

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 20:48

1st case of #Coronavirus in #SLOVENIA (Ljubljana)

Sunshinesky1981 · 04/03/2020 20:48

^ it was obviously a wind up.. but at last something to do with corona that would not cause me to lose sleep at night

Mum and dad are really worried now and are pressurising us to start back home right away to India (before things get really serious and quarantining starts - also because the weather is warm there and the peak summer is May (goes up to 40 degrees, people might die because of the heat than the virus) Dad is saying the school year there starts from June, the medical facilities are better and saying Dh’s contract is anyways over so he can find job there etc. So torn because parents are saying it might be their last days because it’s affecting the elderly (they have underlying conditions too) and want to be with us than being alone before something happens etc. Can’t believe things are getting this serious now .. 😞 for the last 14+ years my parents have never once talked like this so it’s very unusual for them to be this concerned

tangled2 · 04/03/2020 20:53

I saw a case confirmed in Trafford too. Along with the wythenshaw hospital case, the Bolton and Bury, how many of those would've been commuting into Manchester? At least one or two I would imagine.

MoonlightMistletoe · 04/03/2020 20:54

I'd just like to add I am not a doctor I just thought it may be worth reading and if you do purchase any vitamins please read the label or ask the person behind the counter/ professional for safe dosage.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 04/03/2020 21:03

London case - in an office, tube commuter.

NatoPMT · 04/03/2020 21:07

@JustMeAndMyTins

The good thing about the weaker 4mg zincovit is that children can take them, and you get 60 in a pack for taking up to 4 a day covers the dose, but you don’t need to take all 4

I’m a bit paranoid about the side effects of too much zinc

No cold for me today either - symptoms stayed away and got squashed which was a huge relief

FreezerBird · 04/03/2020 21:08

A question about cleaning hard surfaces etc in the home - is my normal kitchen/bathroom cleaner (neither anti-bacterial) sufficient or should I be upgrading to dettol or similar?

I'm assuming that general good hygiene is what we're aiming for but doubting myself....

AlohaMolly · 04/03/2020 21:08

I’ve just seen on Twitter the WHO stating death rate is 3.4%. This is a big deal right?

MoonlightMistletoe · 04/03/2020 21:08

Where is coronavirus in the UK? Area breakdown as cases soar by two-thirds to 87

MoonlightMistletoe · 04/03/2020 21:12

The exact number of cases in the south east of England is not know, but the region has seen a number of positive tests.

^Thats slightly worrying.

JustMeAndMyTins · 04/03/2020 21:16

@NatoPMT Totally. I don’t have kids (just love mumsnet Grin). But everyone needs to be careful with zinc - especially if they have immune issues.

Lozenges shouldn’t be used for prevention either. Some experts advise against nothing above a max of 40mg per day (where some articles refer to 75mg and up) and I’m fairly sure you should not take zinc if you’re on warfarin or tetracycline antibiotics. Please verify this for yourself because I’m going off the top of my head here.

itsnotjustflu · 04/03/2020 21:19

If everyone is figuring out where these cases are they may as well just announce it.
