Hello my fellow preppers. Dilemma for you here. We home ed our DC so there is no issue with them being in school and catching anything there. But DH is a teacher so we get all the germs from him... Would you be keeping your DC off activities at this stage or waiting until it gets worse? They are super busy with lots of after school activities as well as home ed groups and classes, some of which we get to by (very busy) public transport. We have no underlying health conditions as such. Trying to balance my wish to hunker down with the DC's need to keep up with their usual routine and activities.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/03/2020 19:47

Three days ago a Belper couple were awaiting results.

Puppycorn · 04/03/2020 19:51

So this article on the mirror says (sharing it from mirror)

High-touch areas to focus on disinfecting

  • Counters
  • Tabletops
  • Doorknobs
  • Bathroom fixtures
  • Toilets
  • Phones
  • Keyboards
  • Tablets
  • Bedside tables
  • Any surfaces that may have blood, stool, or body fluids on them

How to clean high-touch areas

The CDC advises using a household cleaning spray or wipe, and to follow the instructions.
It explained: “Labels contain instructions for safe and effective use of the cleaning product including precautions you should take when applying the product, such as wearing gloves and making sure you have good ventilation during use of the product”.

Other tips to protect your home

It’s wise to avoid sharing personal household items, even if it’s with other family members.
The CDC advised: “You should not share dishes, drinking glasses, cups, eating utensils, towels, or bedding with other people or pets in your home.
"After using these items, they should be washed thoroughly with soap and water.”

What I’m thinking is how do we even not share bedding. Dd shares our bed and doesn’t sleep in her own room yet. 🤔

100,000 Israelis are currently in quarantine due to #Coronavirus. Any #Israel citizen returning to the country from #France, #Germany, #Switzerland, #Spain or #Austria will be required to enter 14 days of quarantine.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/03/2020 19:58

Good for them.

Cora1942 · 04/03/2020 20:02

Have I read WHO report correctly ?20 percent of people who are ill required oxygen? Not like flu then. All the people burying their heads are mad. There is no way the NHS will cope.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 04/03/2020 20:04

@peachgreen where was your shop from? According to ocado they have reserved the stock when you check your order out so even if there is none more, you should mostly get what you order. I don't believe them!

Confirmed case in London today x2.

permanentlyfrazzled1 · 04/03/2020 20:07

@orthodontix we’re in the exact same situation, although DH has a suppressed immune system and I’m asthmatic. We’ve decided to hibernate initially for this week and next, then we’ll reassess for the week after that. I’ve got two teen boys who could do with focussing on a bit more formal English and Maths, so we can use this time valuably, although they are missing all their sporting activities/seeing friends. My two younger girls are very good at occupying themselves and are happy enough given space to dance/be dramatic/do craft stuff/baking. I’m keeping them sweet with more screen time than normal plus sweeties 😁 We also plan to get a couple of rooms decorated so our hibernation is productive. We may go to tennis next week because it’s outdoor but I don’t feel comfortable being in busy, crowded leisure centres with upwards of 15 other families who have millions of children whose hygiene might not be as good as I’d like it to be, on top of all the germs the usual leisure centre traffic leaves everywhere. A few friends have joined me in staying at home to watch and wait, but most are still going to everything at the moment, but to be fair, most of them don’t have any underlying health issues to consider. I like to err on the side of caution, but you just make the decision that you’re most comfortable with.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/03/2020 20:07

I bet between us we can track down quite a few from local news sources.

FuckThisWind · 04/03/2020 20:08

I'm in Newcastle.
DD's Dad and family are from Belper. Visit regularly.
Not anymore.
I personally don't think we can contain this. Despite our rigorous routines.
However, our carefully managed 'stocks' will hopefully see us through.
I refuse to be called a stockpile. And I am certainly not a panic buyer. The panic buyers will be the people who told us it was just the flu.
Got appointments galore coming up with Mum who has cancer. Trying all ways to be prepared and be sure we have all we need in case of isolation.

MoonlightMistletoe · 04/03/2020 20:11

What was the other case @YoursTunbridgeWells ? Was one of them the university case ?

Funkycats · 04/03/2020 20:12

@Puppycorn I think you could go mad trying. Best to focus on hard surfaces, hand washing, and good general hygiene.

CrapTVAddict · 04/03/2020 20:14

On local news Oldham is a confirmed case. That's a few near me now and in the greater Manchester area
