I had an ocado delivery today with the most substitutions ever - around 20% subbed or missing. No antibac spray, no dettol laundry stuff, no soap & very few tins. £170 order for 2 households & I only got £130.

Went to Tesco to get some tins - everything there bar soap (pun intended!) & antibac spray. Didn't look for hand gel as we have enough between 8 of us - 1 little bottle each plus 1 refill bottle of defendol. Should last a month or 2. Hopefully stocks will be reappearing by then.

EliK · 04/03/2020 16:39

@VivaLeBeaver I totally panicked at first now I'm trying to talk myself down. Ah well, nothing I can do about it. Hopefully they're ok. At least I can avoid the panic buying that will be going on now.

NEW: Los Angeles County reports 5 new cases of coronavirus, declares state of emergency t.co/eUoE2b20hL

Tinnednut · 04/03/2020 16:39

The thing about bugging out to a remote location is that if you do need medical attention it will be harder to receive, moving people that are contagious is hard enough
Plus by Easter the highlands and islands are pretty busy with tourist and the vast majority of people who live there are retired.
Alongside the logistic of obtaining food, fewer choices and not so many delivery slots.

If you can bug out you can bug in.

Springinsight · 04/03/2020 16:40

The councillors response is patronising.

Information will get out. I wonder which twitter feeds are best..

Sixp · 04/03/2020 16:46

@Elik Just wondering what general area you are in, as I think you’re also in Scotland...

FaisPasCiFaisPasCa · 04/03/2020 16:56

Name changed and testing.

Think I've been too revealing lately.

I don't know what I'd do without this thread, it's great to be able to discuss all this without everyone thinking it's HYSTERICAL frenzy.

I hate that word, with all its misogynistic, mental health stigma historical connotations.

In fact this is historical, not hysterical.Sad

According to Sky:

Two people from Carlisle who had both had recently returned from a trip to northern Italy. One is a member of healthcare staff at the Cumberland Infirmary

Two Scottish patients from the Grampian and Ayrshire areas. One had travelled to northern Italy and the other had had contact with a person who was known to have already tested positive for the disease

Two people in Northern Ireland including one who had travelled from northern Italy. The other had recent contact with a person in the UK who had tested positive for COVID-19

Two people in South Ribble, Lancashire who had recently travelled to Italy and were isolating themselves at home

A patient who was admitted to Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester

A person in Oldham, Greater Manchester who was infected while in northern Italy

Three cases in Trafford, Greater Manchester who had all recently travelled to northern Italy

Saffronesque · 04/03/2020 16:57

Does anyone know what the alcohol content of defendol hospital grade antibacterial handgel is?

I have spent too much time googling to no avail.

crimescenenow · 04/03/2020 17:01

@FaisPasCiFaisPasCa yes I have name changed several times in light of lazy journalists screenshotting and publishing parts of this thread.

Just to remind everyone that @wheresmymojo predicted that cases would be up to 54 today. Sadly that has been far exceeded.

crimescenenow · 04/03/2020 17:02

@Saffronesque the defendol doesn't say the alcohol content on the bottle.

Saffronesque · 04/03/2020 17:04

Scratch my enquiry...phoned the company! It is minimum 60% alcohol; expected to be manufactured & ready to ship to retailers within the next week & no more than 20 can be bought at a time. 20! People are panicking, that's for sure.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/03/2020 17:05

There has been talk in the last few days of different sorts of virus on R4 programmes.

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 17:07

Italy reports 587 new cases of coronavirus and 28 new deaths, raising total to 3,089 cases and 107 dead t.co/eUoE2b20hL

TipseyTorvey · 04/03/2020 17:09

On a separate note I'm amazed at how many people go to Northern Italy in Feb. Feels like a massive party I wasn't invited to. Is this the ski set? I don't ski...

EliK · 04/03/2020 17:09

@Sixp false alarm (I think) all the posts have been removed in our local Facebook group. Should have known. Think I'll stop looking at social media Blush

Readyme · 04/03/2020 17:13

Decided best to make change too for privacy.

Has anyone commentaries DC about what's happening? My DC knows something is up so we need to have a conversation soon. A gentle talk along the lines of there is a bad cold going around we need to be careful about hygiene.

Readyme · 04/03/2020 17:15

Uh meant to say Has anyone had conversation with DC about what is happening?

There were earlier conflicting reports about this, but Italy's education minister has now confirmed that all schools and universities will be closed until March 15

crimescenenow · 04/03/2020 17:32

@Saffronesque 60% only?! That's disappointing. I've got a big bottle of it but sounds like it's not really good enough. Might add some rubbing alcohol then.

Wish I'd got more mini bottles of Milton gel when I had the chance...

Titsywoo · 04/03/2020 17:33

Both Sainsburys I went to today were out of toilet roll - I don't get it? Diarrhea isn't a symptom is it?! Grin

Springinsight · 04/03/2020 17:36

tipsey

I must admit I felt fleeting Fomo 😁 with all the Italy action.
