My DH has just had the nerve to roll his eyes at me when I told him the news

twins2019 · 04/03/2020 14:24

@itsnotjustflu me too. I've started to focus on fresh food. Im going to try and distract myself with potting up some seeds for the next few days. Something positive and prepping for the longer term.

Latest info - 29 recently travelled from recognised clusters. 3 contracted in the uk. Not yet clear if direct contraction from an infected person or not. That's worrying.

BloomedAgain · 04/03/2020 14:24

@Puppycorn I'm not sure that sanitizer recipe would do the job. I bet it woukd smell great though.

MoonlightMistletoe · 04/03/2020 14:25

Wtf? How is that fair ? I hope someone leaks the info.

burntpinky · 04/03/2020 14:27

I have never prepped before but today I did. Loads of loo roll, tinned soup, veg, pasta, frozen veg etc. We have an 18 month old and I’m currently 4.5 weeks pregnant. Scared to death. Mainly for my unborn

Lhia29 · 04/03/2020 14:28

We have a confirmed case near where I live in West berkshire.

WelliAmNot · 04/03/2020 14:29

I’m not sure whether this is a clue about any of the cases or not?

Lhia29 · 04/03/2020 14:30

Only confirmed on the 2nd and they'd been in contact with people at the Vodafone Hq so some staff are self isolated now.

Worrying because it's been kept fairly quiet locally. I'm skint til the 14th but then I'll be stocking up on essentials of god forbid we had a 2 week quarantine.

MoonlightMistletoe · 04/03/2020 14:30

Twenty-nine had recently travelled "from recognised countries or clusters" while three contracted the virus in the UK.

Orangecake123 · 04/03/2020 14:30

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK has risen from 53 to 85.

itsnotjustflu · 04/03/2020 14:31

@twins2019 fresh food is beyond sorted here....can't fit anything else in the fridge. got all sorts from Morrisons that will last until April!! That is worrying

@MoonlightMistletoe I guess local news websites might say

NatoPMT · 04/03/2020 14:32

@burntpinky - everything I have read talking about pregnancy suggests covid-19 isn’t as dangerous to pregnant women as you’d assume, in fact it seems that it’s virtually no casualty data on pregnant women. Newborns seem to be untouched too (by severity that is)

I know it’s scary but you aren’t in a high risk group because of pregnancy. Doesn’t make it less of an anxious time, I know

But definitely Congratulations to you!

NatoPMT · 04/03/2020 14:34

My fridge is full of chilled but perishable items. Will just replenish as I use the oldest stock

It’s a matter of management of best before now

NatoPMT · 04/03/2020 14:35

Burnt.... only 1% critical figures for pregnancy according to NY Times...

Germany has imposed an immediate ban on exports of personal protective equipment, including masks and gloves, in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

It comes as the French government announced that protection masks are being requisitioned to ensure priority access for health professionals and patients.

Why is this not being done here - the Governement should requisition all supplies of PPE and none can be sold to public until the NHS and other providers such as dentists have sufficient.

Tryingnottobesociallyawkward · 04/03/2020 14:37

The great plan is to keep us in the dark for as long as possible, cos that totally won't cause mass panic...

Tinnednut · 04/03/2020 14:38

Withholding the locations for a week will only lead to fear and false rumours spreading!

@twins2019 I feel for you premature twins during the winter months is tough enough without adding Covid-19. Planting seedlings is a good idea, I've been out the the garden this afternoon prepping the garden for Spring it really helped me relax for a few hours.

burntpinky · 04/03/2020 14:38

@NatoPMT - thank you for that and for the congrats! I think it’s because I read that it’s similar to SARS which can cause miscarriage/stillbirth. I’m 41 and is last chance for number 2 I reckon so that’s probs why!

Gah, I do need to read this whole thread re prepping as I have no clues other than what I’ve already said and also stocked up on nappies and infant calpol!

twins2019 · 04/03/2020 14:39

@itsnotjustflu my fridge is rammed but we go through food so bloody fast with four kids!

My worry is maintaining enough fresh food for them if we had to isolate for a month or more. We have chickens and we are entering laying season so expect plenty of eggs which is good for baking and generally but I'm starting to buy large volumes (5kg of each is my aim) of basics that freeze well like berries, onions, peppers, pineapple/mango, sweet potatoes etc. I've got about half that of each at the moment and I cut and freeze fresh herbs as well. We planted apple, plum and pear trees 3 years ago but it'll be the late summer / early autumn before we see any fruit from those. I'm planting strawberry, pea, butternut squash, tomato and salad seedlings this week. Trying to channel all of my nervous energy...

twins2019 · 04/03/2020 14:42

@Tinnednut I'm hoping the garden will be calming. I'm just a ball of nervous energy. My wider family think I'm insane, my husband thinks the same but his view is if it helps me sleep he's supportive (but not helpful!).

Legoandloldolls · 04/03/2020 14:42

Ok I'm anxious now, but everyone take a deep breath, we knew this was going to happen. There is less than ten cases of a non traveler getting / spreading it.

I really think I'm going to change plans and check on my mum this weekend while I can. I might go to Costco for her

rhij86 · 04/03/2020 14:43

I understand being pregnant doesn't increase my risk of catching it per se.

What I worry about is as a pregnant woman (from what I understand) the risks once you have it are higher - eg if I was to contract a fever and have a prolonged fever - that causes a high risk to baby? Which is why they encourage us all to get flu jabs to avoid flu if at all possible?

I may be talking out of my arse and am happy to be corrected!

Sunshinesky1981 · 04/03/2020 14:44

Lhia29 I had heard about some people self isolating in Vodafone, but not that they had had a confirmed case. I live near Vodafone HQ and know vast amounts of people that work there with it being the towns largest employer, also lots of parents who's kids go to my childs school work there .. Not good Sad

Neome · 04/03/2020 14:44

Seeing a dear friend today who thinks whole thing is media hysteria 😕 she's in poor health and a high risk group and lives alone (in a different area).

I won't argue with her but I can't help feeling a bit sad.

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 14:44

🗣 Don’t worry if you can’t attend your jobcentre appointment because of self-isolation

✅ You will not be sanctioned
