Yes, I shouted. Sorry to your internet ears. Just hide the bloody topic.

Anyone else sort of looking forward to the Zombie Apocalypse now? We can eat all the mean non-preppers. That is a joke in case any special snowflakes think I will actually eat them.

I am not meeting near Stratter5, too much chance of flooding. Grin

Zetetic · 10/11/2015 19:20

If the internet goes off my DH has backed up all useful information sites on a memory stick and he has a solar charger for the laptop.

We are quite normal in most other ways. Grin

atticusclaw2 · 10/11/2015 19:20

We can wild camp in my wood (and then retreat inside when it gets cold for G&Ts)

swisscheesetony · 10/11/2015 19:24

I'm in. Ocado might not come but it'll be a cold day in hell when fortnum's won't send the helicopter out!

ProfGrammaticus · 10/11/2015 19:25

Stratters, why are you called stratter5?

Did you flounce? Shock

Stratter5 · 10/11/2015 19:30

Years ago, lost both Stratters and SarahStratton. Plus my lovely festive ones. Bloody silly of me :(

I won't flood, I'm fine where I am, and you're all welcome. The Wolds will become islands, and we can chop up the scoffers and go crabbing with them. Seems a highly suitable ending to me.

ProfGrammaticus · 10/11/2015 19:39

Oops Grin

Did you have a registration number smaller than cod too?

howtorebuild · 10/11/2015 19:42

strappon was a good one.

Stratter5 · 10/11/2015 19:42

Doubt it, I've only been here six years, they were waaay past 666 by then :)

Stratter5 · 10/11/2015 19:43

I was particularly proud of SantasStrapon.

Really daft question - when it comes to keeping a stash of tins, do you keep them with your normal food or have a special place for them? If they're separate, do you worry about using them before their best before dates? Most things kept in undented tins should be good indefinitely, shouldn't they? It's the one thing I can't quite get my head around that keeps me from stocking up properly! We live on a meal-plan basis here so don't have much extra food around. We'd be stuffed if the zombie apocalypse or a large amount of unexpected snow came on a Friday. Plus, we've got several older people on our street who I'd feel responsible for if their DC couldn't get to them. Most of the reason I want to stock up is for them!

FreeWorker1 · 10/11/2015 19:53

AGnu - you have to rotate your stock.

I had a boss who was Swiss. He had a bunker and quite a protocol for ensuring it and the supplies in it were ready at all times.

Stock rotation was key.

ThomasRichard · 10/11/2015 19:53

I vote for a hike from the Wolds to our FOP in atticus's woods. With the aid of the Fortnum's helicopter.

Zetetic · 10/11/2015 19:54

Separate. I have a nifty stack of see through boxes with a date taped to the side.

Top Box - Spring / Summer Use by 2016
Next Box - Autumn / Winter Use by 2016
Next Box - Spring / Summer Use By 2017
Bottom Box - Autumn Winter Use By 2017

They all have exactly what we would use each week so no wastage. In January I will lift the top box and start eating it. Every week I buy one item and it goes in the relevant box. Really easy system that takes no brain power.

The best bit is that when I have forgotten to buy something important for a meal I don't have to drive miles to get the forgotten item. I can just filch it.

SurferJet · 10/11/2015 19:55

This topic doesn't annoy me enough to hide it, but it does seems a bit silly - I mean. once you've prepared for whatever it is you're preparing for that's kind of it?
There's only so much you can say on the subject surely? give it a couple of months & the topic will die down I reckon, it's just novelty atm which is cool.

Zetetic · 10/11/2015 19:56

Um. Don't usually care about being cool. Which is just as well.

Stratter5 · 10/11/2015 20:01

So why do you feel it necessary to search through the topics, find the board, and post that? Bit pointless really, Surfer, seeing that not one of us is affecting you at all.

swisscheesetony · 10/11/2015 20:02

Really? I think we'll be swapping stories about winter survival. "100mph winds blew my satellite dish off shocker", etc.

Everyone laughs at bunkers don't they? I notice nobody (without one) is laughing in 70mph winds when I'm stood in mine having a crafty fag and they're in the elements.

Stratter5 · 10/11/2015 20:07

*We were affected by the storm surge last year, lot of very bad flooding, actual buildings lost. DH was down in Essex, and was understandably very concerned. We have animals to consider, and a very basic infrastructure round here. He was impressed that DD2 and I had already got plans in place in case the floods reached us, and had actually run through what we were going to do. As it was, we didn't need to. But we also didn't need to worry about basics either because I was already prepared.

  • 'we' the area, not 'we' personally.
FreeWorker1 · 10/11/2015 20:13

swisscheese -are you actually SWISS!?

I mean the Swiss are the legally obliged to be bunker preppers like my old boss. He also had a snipers rifle and trained for arctic warfare at high altitude in his holidays.

You must have lots of protocols and stuff to share. Smile

swisscheesetony · 10/11/2015 20:17

Sadly I'm not, I'm Scottish Grin - and it's not a nuclear bunker, it's a coal bunker. I have lived in the alps though so can drive in shiteous conditions. I'm now coastal and a surge was about 6" from the road out of town yesterday. (The Swiss don't have that problem).

SenecaFalls · 10/11/2015 20:23

Surfer didn't have to search. This thread has been in and out of Active all day. That's how I came across it.
