Yes, I shouted. Sorry to your internet ears. Just hide the bloody topic.

Anyone else sort of looking forward to the Zombie Apocalypse now? We can eat all the mean non-preppers. That is a joke in case any special snowflakes think I will actually eat them.

I didn't want the bunker as I thought it would be too apocalypsy and TEOtWAWKI but I really didn't expect the backlash we've had.

So I say ok for changing the name. I'll still post there - I'm really enjoying this board!

ISpidersmanYouMeanPirate · 10/11/2015 18:44

Grin @ cozie

stratter must be fed up of telling this story!

Should get a meme made - yes, even in the UK extreme weather can necessitate an evacuation.

No, Ocado deliveries won't get through.

BertrandRussell · 10/11/2015 18:45

I'd be significantly more worried if my local council didn't have an evacuation plan- we flooded badly last year and the year before........

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/11/2015 18:47

Personally I think The Bunker is as alarmist as Preppers. WitH The Bunker there's no doubt that is expecting an armaggedon scenario; preppers vouod be prepping for situations large and small.

I thought there would be a backlash - which is why MNHQ had a long hard think about it - but now we've weathered it, do we need to change?

ISpidersmanYouMeanPirate · 10/11/2015 18:48

Preparedness then? Bit bland but inoffensive. Possibly. Who knows with AIBU!

ScrappyMalloy · 10/11/2015 18:53

Blimey, just had a quick flick through the AIBU thread Confused

I remember now why I keep that topic hidden - those people are scary

I lived in the Home Counties, on the North Downs for most of my life, and have had power cuts that lasted several days, and been snowed in so severely that the shops in our middling sized town didn't open all week. More than once.

jeanswithatwist · 10/11/2015 18:53

what about calling it 'Desperate Measures' Smile

JaWellNoFine · 10/11/2015 18:54

I like The Bunker too..

cozietoesie · 10/11/2015 18:55

I think it most likely, Spiders, that Stratter5's local authority staff were using up some central govenment specific grant money - money that could vaguely be attributed to the topic in question. £100k is a decent sum to have under your capital-spend-belt and while it might with hindsight be thought of as perhaps a little politically ill-advised, it's not the sort of thing that shouts 'Corruption' to the general public.

atticusclaw2 · 10/11/2015 18:57

The Bunker is tongue in cheek though and that might help reassure those who are worried about the presence of "extreme prepping" on MN.

SenecaFalls · 10/11/2015 18:59

What do UK governments call it?

BeyondThirty · 10/11/2015 19:01

I vote for "look busy, zombies are coming"!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/11/2015 19:02

I think the people postng on the aibu thread would not see The Bunker as tongue in cheek. It would reinforce their opinion of the lunacy of the subject, IMO.

I'm not sure why we have to run away from it.,

If you all want to call it The Bunker though, I'll go with it.

Zetetic · 10/11/2015 19:03

Well the bunker is tongue in cheek but they would probably take it deadly seriously. We would be accused of preparing for nuclear armageddon (although I do have potassium iodine tablets for my whole family).

Zetetic · 10/11/2015 19:04

....they are issued if you live in range of a nuclear power station.

FreeWorker1 · 10/11/2015 19:05

Can we call it 'Emergency Response' to make it sound all official?

My Dad had an official position that entitled him to go in the local nuclear bunker so 'Prepping' is practically my lifelong obsession.

SenecaFalls · 10/11/2015 19:06

Why not Emergency Preparedness? Not cute and catchy, but neither are other serious sections of MN.

winchester1 · 10/11/2015 19:07

I don't really give a fuck if.people think I'm crazy hopefully it will encourage them to keep away from us. I want to actually discuss things and stop with these circular conversations.

Plus I have a bunker full of potatoes so like to think if suits my preparations quite well.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/11/2015 19:09

Crisis Preperation?

Zetetic · 10/11/2015 19:11

Why are people so paranoid about bunkers? I would LOVE to own a bunker. It would be lined with all my favourite food. I could escape from my teenagers. Bliss.

Emergency Preparedness does cover everything. Another good idea. Or The Hunger Games. Grin

Stratter5 · 10/11/2015 19:11

Yes, it's for flooding. It's an odd one, two local councils seem to have collaborated, as it's not just East Lindsey that's got them.

We do have a history of flooding, the area was badly affected by the '53 floods, and a lot of damage was caused by last year's storm surge (might have been year before, can't actually remember).

So, possibly a sensible thing, although it would have been an awful lot more sensible to actually tell us what they were for.

ArmchairTraveller · 10/11/2015 19:11

it appears that Bertrand and I have a lot of hobbies and skills in common. So few of us can knapp now. Smile

ISpidersmanYouMeanPirate · 10/11/2015 19:12

Emergency Response sounds like 999 or the Samaritans or something.

FreeWorker1 · 10/11/2015 19:13

You know when the 'Crisis' happens the internet will go off and all the mickey takers will be left stabbing hopelessly at their keyboards, eating cat food and shivering.

Meanwhile we will be warm, with full tummies and troubled only by a strong sense of Schadenfreude.

ThomasRichard · 10/11/2015 19:16

I'm up for The Bunker. Also a MN prepper meet-up where we wild camp using just the supplies for our 72 hour packs :o
