Medical abortion

Hi All,

I hope you are doing well. This is my first thread on here, so apologies if I make any errors.

I just wanted some support really. I am almost 7 weeks pregnant, despite using contraception. It was completely unplanned and has really concerned me, as I am going through some health issues at the moment.

Due to my health issues, I have decided to have a termination. It really upsets me as I didn't want to go down this route, but Im not well. Luckily, my husband is very supportive and says my health comes first.

I have opted for a medical termination. I've been in and out the hospital a lot the past few weeks and I wanted to do the termination at home. My mum is available to look after me when DH is at work and DS is at school.

I am planning to take the first pill on Tuesday after my appointment and the second lot of pills on Wednesday.

Could anyone advise me who has gone through this? How did you manage pain wise? What pain killers did you take and when?

Please don't tell me horror stories or make me feel guilty. Like I said, it's for medical reasons. I believe women should have the option to terminate if they are not in a position or ready to have a baby. Contraception can fail at any time.

Thank you for all your support. ❤

Aww no, that’s the worst 😩 difficult brushing your teeth when feeling sick🤢

I got my heating pad on Amazon, it’s the one with the most reviews, it’s grey and was £20.

I took 2 ibuprofen and two paracetamol at 9 o’clock then inserted the 4 tablets.
I’m currently laying down for half an hour and then going to walk about to try get things moving. So far it’s been 20 minutes and I can already feel light fluttering type cramps, very subtle but can feel it. Also feel a slight ache in my upper thighs.
Just really hoping I don’t spew up the pain meds as starting to feel nauseous again 🙈🥴

I’ll let you know how it progresses 💞

Mummy8908 · 31/03/2023 09:41

I know how hard this is, well done for taking the 4 tablets.

Perhaps keep sipping on lucozade to keep nausea at bay, it helps me often.

Okay I will get the heat pad too, just in case.

I've heard too that being a little mobile helps things move along, but be kind to yourself. Don't do too much xxx.

It’s been exactly 1 hour since inserting the tablets and I have started to bleed. So far everything is manageable and I’m pottering around the house doing housework ☺️

also just got some Lucozade. Yeah definitely recommend getting a heating pad. I find it so comforting ❤️

AdoremoM · 31/03/2023 10:29

hope you are feeling ok.. how are you feeling now?

i am so nervous and my anxiety has been on a peak lately.

still waiting to get mine delivered to me by post

your update would really keep at ease

Flowermama12 · 31/03/2023 11:07

I’m 2 hours in now, still just the lightest of cramping, I am also bleeding lightly and when I go to the toilet. so far it’s been ok.

I can totally relate, as I have been an anxious mess for the past two weeks. I hope your tablets come soon 💞

I’ll update throughout the day and hopefully put your mind at ease a little. Whatever you do don’t read too many things online. I have health anxiety and it’s made me so sick the past 2 weeks leading up to this. All it does is scare people. The majority of women that go through this have a positive experience and then move on from it, therefor don’t post about it. It really is mostly negative things you read.

Im sure my cramps will build up soon but I’m prepared the best I can be. 💞

Flowermama12 · 31/03/2023 11:50

Just felt the cramps build a little and went to sit on the toilet. Passed my first blood clot. Didn’t see the size of it as too much blood in the toilet but once it came out the cramp feeling went away.

(also just want to add, it probably looks like there’s more blood than there is just because it’s in water, there isn’t really much on the pad)

TMI I know but we’re all in the same boat and I know whoever reads this will probably appreciate my honest opinion.

AdoremoM · 31/03/2023 11:54

I’m glad you’re coping well
I wish you the best

thanks for the encouragement

Flowermama12 · 31/03/2023 13:38

put the remanding 2 pills under my tongue at 1pm.
So far past about 3 clots, not sure how big as again they just fell into the toilet. Pain has been a 3/10 the whole time so far and managed with just ibuprofen and paracetamol.

bleeding not super heavy, only changed pad once and it didn’t even need it. (Just hygiene reasons).

Mummy8908 · 31/03/2023 14:22

@Flowermama12 you are doing so well ❤ it's strange how different providers suggest doing this. My provider said to put the remaining 2 pills inside vaginally. I could also put under tongue. I hope you are ok. Are you able to eat anything?? Hows the heat pad working? 🥰

Hi all, thanks a lot for this thread as it's really helpful and one of the most recent out there. I really hope you are all okay and getting through this as best as possible; I can't imagine how everything has been feeling.

I am getting my NHS phone consultation on Monday, and they said I will get my pills by post on Tuesday. I just wanted to ask if this happened to you all too? As I am around 5 weeks but haven't been called in to see anyone at all, I just got the appointment for the phone call 2 weeks ago and have been waiting since then. What happens on the phone call? Do I get all of the pills sent at once or do i have to wait after a first batch?

All help is appreciated, thanks so much x

Flowermama12 · 31/03/2023 15:08

Hope you’re feeling ok 💞
So with the NHS consultation it’s a lovely nurse that phoned me. It lasts about 30 minutes. She just asks health related questions and it’s all pretty quick to be honest. They will send everything out to you at once with clear instructions. All the medication is labelled with dates to take etc.
I collected mine from the hospital but I’m sure it will be the same. I was sent home with everything I needed.

Im currently 6 hours into take the 2nd lot and I am passing some blood clots every 15/20 minutes. It’s been like that for the past 3 hours I’d say. They don’t hurt coming out but a strange sensation🙈 I haven’t had much pain to be honest. I do know when clots are about to come as I get a little nauseous. Sometimes I get light popping sensations in my lower stomach.

I spent so long reading the worst and now I’m panicking if it’s working as it’s not been as painful as other people’s experiences🙈 typical.

Mummy8908 · 31/03/2023 15:21

@Flowermama12 well at least you are passing clots lovely, that's a good sign. Im taking first tablet Monday and second lot Tuesday (work called in and needed urgent cover for Monday morning, I didn't want to start second lot Monday morning and suffer). I'm going to get everything ready and keep you all posted when I start. @abitscaredd your pills will be here soon. Mine finally came, but I understand how you feel as the wait is annoying. Hang in there, let us know how you are 💐.

AdoremoM · 31/03/2023 15:25

had my phone consultation yesterday and was told I’d get a box for my treatment on Monday. In it has the misoprostol and mifepristone, codein and sayana press because I requested for it.. don’t know if you’re getting same but if you’re getting yours from the BPAS I guess you’re getting exactly same as mine without it the sayana press ..

Mummy8908 · 31/03/2023 15:33

Yes mine is from bupas too :) what is a sayana press?

abitscaredd · 31/03/2023 15:42

thank you everyone so much, i hope i can come back here once i've officially started the process

AdoremoM · 31/03/2023 15:47

it’s a contraceptive
an injection
but I’ve never used it before

I asked to get it as it’s only taken ones in 13weeks..

AdoremoM · 31/03/2023 15:50

The waiting can be rly tiring ..
wish I could get mine ASAP

the anxiety is so much that I’m getting palpitations and missed feelings

this would be my second medical abortion ( not proud to say)

really do not see the need for delay
TBVH

Flowermama12 · 31/03/2023 16:06

@Mummy8908 thanks lovely, it’s reassuring as my body’s doing what it’s meant to but it’s frustrating. I may as well stay seated on the toilet all night, clots coming out every 15 minutes so can’t stay too far from the toilet 🙈 let me know how you get on, on Tuesday 💞

Mummy8908 · 31/03/2023 16:19

@Flowermama12 I understand its not only mentally exhausting but of course taking a toll on you physically - is your toilet upstairs or downstairs? Also, when you took the last 2 tablets orally, did they dissolve on their own within 30 mins or did you need to swallow them with water?

@AdoremoM yes I completely agree with you. Providers know how distressing this is to deal with, delays should not happen. Unfortunately I waited and it was so difficult. But I've received mine today finally. You can call and ask bupas if they have a tracking number for your pills. Also, you are sent a text message when they are dispatched. xx

@abitscaredd you got this. You can always message here for advice or support. It's really comforting to know we are not alone. I just hope none of us suffer too much and we can get through this phase. ❤

Flowermama12 · 31/03/2023 16:25

@Mummy8908 No my toilet is downstairs so I’m staying close to the living room😅 i put them under my tongue for half an hour and they dissolved , there was only a little left after 30 minutes and I swallowed the remainder ☺️ it did leave under my tongue a little sore for about an hour after.

Mummy8908 · 31/03/2023 17:32

Oh that's a relief it's downstairs. Mine is upstairs lol, I suppose the walking up and down the stairs will help move things along 😅. Ahhh OK, yes I read the tablets make the mouth sore afterwards. But it's OK I guess, all this is temporary and will pass ❤.

@AdoremoM thank you 💞🥰
I’m feeling ok, i haven’t had painful cramps throughout the whole process. Just passing lots of clots. My bleeding is getting slightly heavier now so my partner went to the shop and got some adult diapers for bedtime, going to pop a pad in one so I can get some decent sleep.
I am feeling very bloated and uncomfortable if I’m standing too long (just made dinner and found that out) so back on the couch taking it easy.

Hope you’re doing ok ❤️
