Hi everyone!

Well, I got my BFP on Friday morning and it is only just starting to sink in! According to my dates I am due 2nd Feb and I thought it would be nice to have a Feb babies thread, where we can all share our news/worries/excitement!

Cant wait to hear from you

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
tabbycat76 · 17/06/2010 08:43

Thanks KnitternotTwitter I really appreicate your reply - reassures me loads and makes me feel that I'm not completely alone on that score!

angels1 · 17/06/2010 09:01

tabbycat76 I've been putting off any action with DH too, mainly as I've been getting odd cramps/sensations and the whole area just feels quite delicate and just feels a bit wrong (a bit like lifting heavy stuff just feels wrong...if that makes sense). But I'm sure it'll pass!

earlgreyismynectar and mrsteapot I heard a story last week about a pregnant woman going into boots, buying a pack of Johnson's talc and then as soon as she'd paid for it she put some in her hand and ate it - whilst still with the cashier - apparently the poor young cashier thought she was mad and went very pale looking at her antics!

So I still have to look forward to the condom coated scan in a few weeks. I always feel concerned at just how much KY they seem to put on (or that's how it feels anyway), once they finish, I get stuck with a very wet feeling lower regions...but maybe that one's just me

I got an ear infectio yesterday. I get them quite alot, but I have a prescription that keeps them at bay, which I can't now use due to pg. Doc said ear infections are notoriously difficult to treat in pg and tried to give me oral antibiotics - which i hate as they upset my stomach, and, give ms, that's the last thing I need. I'm holding off hoping it improves (has done a bit already). She also talked about ear candles sayign they might help - anyone tried??

symptoms getting worse now...more nausea/tiredness etc

tabbycat76 · 17/06/2010 09:09

Yay - I'm not alone! Thanks angels x

sweetnitanitro · 17/06/2010 09:10

angels hope your ear feels better soon, what rotten luck

tabby I didn't feel like sex for most of my first pregnancy, we did it once and I had to run off and be sick so DH didn't bother asking much after that and let me make the first move. Don't worry if you're not in the mood as much, growing a person is hard work! I'm sure your DH will cope, it's not forever.

GinaFB · 17/06/2010 09:35

tabby my OH is very upset as I'm just shattered and bedroom antics are the last thing on my mind!!

angels poor you thats rotten luck. Hope you are feeling better soon!

How aer all you ladies feeling? I have mild nausea and am tired but other than that pretty good!

Waiting to hear from the midwife about booking in appt, apparently they book in at 10 weeks. Anyone else in a similar position?

canoe · 17/06/2010 09:38

So my doctors appt went well. The GP i see is an English lady - its one of those terrible things, but i feel so much more comfortable with her than i would with a local doctor - some of them can be a bit religous (sp). One i went to before i found this one had a sign on her desk saying 'we treat but jesus heals', I've no objection to religion, but i don;t want my doctor to have a sign like that, especially as i'd been to see her as i had thrush - it just felt a bit wrong... Anyway, a bit off topic.

So, the system here is a first scan at 8 weeks, and a blood test around then too (Which i'm dreading as i;m terrible with injections: i always faint, might have to get DP along as driver)

Then i can either continue to see the GP every month, or i can see a obstretician (sp) privately. They've just built a new hospital about 40 miles away which is supposed to be excellent and the private obstretician she recommended does deliveries there, so that's quite a relief as the existing hospital is supposed to be ok for scans and regular check ups and things, but if you have any complications during labour the care isn;t that great apparently. They recommend you go to South Africa to deliver if you have any complications. (It's about a 5 hour drive to Joburg from here so not ideal!)

She talked to me a bit about the downs syndrome screening they can, but didnt have any info she could give me read, does anyone have any advice about this, or know any good websites?

Also, I noticed that many of you talked about being given an info pack from your first appt, what was in this? There's nothing like that available here but it would be good know the names of any leaflets etc so i can see if i can download them online...

Any advice like that would be great, I'm feeling a bit out of the information loop here!

Sorry, this was a very me post

Hope everyone is feeling ok today, and the morning sickness isnt too bad

angels1 · 17/06/2010 09:54

canoe

I got to half way through your post before I remembered you were in Africa! I was thinking 'we treat but jesus heals' sign....I'm sure they wouldn't be allowed that in a GP surgery here....then the penny dropped

there's a NHS pregnancy guide here www.nhs.uk/Planners/pregnancycareplanner/Pages/PregnancyHome.aspx
and here's an NHS week by week thing
www.nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/Pregnancy.aspx?r=1&rtitle=Interactive+tools-+pregnancy+tool

I also think babycentre has some useful snippets of info about things
www.babycentre.co.uk/

hope that helps

tabby I was just logging in to ask if anyone else's sex drive had gone awol too! poor dh has not had so much as a hint of action since conception, after which I fell in a heap and haven't recovered since . I do remember though that 2nd trimester I got my mojo back so here's hoping same for you!

apart from lack of desire in the bedroom, am not feeling too bad, dare i say it. i feel like it's the calm before the storm! have had a few patches of nausea that can be chased away by tangy cheese doritos and cheddar. so far so good. oh and have been hit by a tired stick. waves of sleepiness come and go. weirdly am more tired in the morning after i get up than at night before bed [hmmm].

hope everybody has a good day, is gorgeous weather here so hope others have some sunshine where they are too!

PDR · 17/06/2010 10:17

Canoe where abouts in Botswana are you? We used to live in Kenya (DH is Kenyan) and have been to Chobe quite a few times.

Pebblestone · 17/06/2010 10:52

Hi,

Lovely to read all the posts and realise that I am not alone. My husband is away until Sat and it's our first. I told my mum on Tues (the day she became a grandmother to my sisters baby) she was so excited. We didn't think we would be able to have children until I had had an operation (and even then it may not have worked) so my hubby will be so chuffed. I am due on 22 Feb 11 and because our surname is stone the name for the bump is 'pebble' ie a little stone. I am going to tell my husband with a Fathers Day card, I hope he clicks what it all means . I am in work and feel really sick, I have found constantly drinking green tea with lemon and nibbling on ginger biscuits is helping a little but it's really hard to keep it from everyone when you want to shout it from the rooftops.

Thanks for listening it's great to have all these online friends to share the experiene with when I can't tell anyone else.

caramellokoalalover · 17/06/2010 11:07

pebble is a really sweet name for your bump! congratulations - and we share a due date! Hooray!

My DH has taken to calling the bump Juanita...he joked that we should call the baby Juanita Ethel if it's a girl and it seems to have stuck for him. Oh dear! I may have to come up with something myself so I can steer him off this idea

Pebblestone · 17/06/2010 11:26

Where did he get that name from?

You should think of a catching name then start to use it. I got in quick with pebble to stop it becoming rocky Perhaps if you give us something to go off we could come up with something on here?

Lulabel27 · 17/06/2010 11:47

Hi tabby I think everyone is different (as with all symptoms) my boobs are mahoosive now which DH thinks is great! But I've set a look but don't touch policy as they're so sore! If he doesn't touch them i'm more than happy for some rumpy pumpy so I suppose its all down to the individual...

He goes to Vegas tomorrow for 5 days for his own stag party so will miss him lots

On another note not sure if any of you remember I've been interviewing for a new (dream) job. Had 5 interviews then final HR interview yesterday they said it was a formality and I'd be phoned this morning with the package and t+cs. Then I felt I had to tell them I was pregnant even though i'm only 7+6 as its only fair. Guess what..... I got rung up this morning and all of a sudden I'm not "experienced" enough. Its so sh1t and I don't blame the little prawn at all I blame the stupid american bank :-( I could have waited until they offered and then told them. Its not like its a small firm - it has hundreds of thousands of employees.

Never mind I suppose everything happens for a reason

tabbycat76 · 17/06/2010 11:48

Haha Juanita Ethel - oh dear you poor thing. That's the thing about men, once they have a name that's it, it sticks! You must get him off this and think of something else!

Pebbles a cute name, I like that a lot. We call ours nugget, my idea, I don't know why. I guess it's because I call my friends 'chicken' or 'chick', a term of endearment, so perhaps subconsiously I was thinking of chicken nuggets at the time! Haha!

Relieved to hear others sex drive has since diminished. I've told my husband what responses have been on here and he seems to be a bit more passified now with the comments - sometimes I don't think they realise what emotional a state you're in when you're pregnant, and the boobs, THE BOOBS!!!!!!

No nausea today so far - yay! Am waiting tho for it all to kick in. I'm working night shifts next week during which time I'll be turning 6 weeks when it's supposed to all happen so I'm a little apprehensive about work, don't really want anyone to suspect/know/find out. My closet friend (who's a mw) and us are the only ones who know so far, hopefully we'll be able to keep it that way until nearer 12 weeks!

I'm a little confused by all these scans you lot are having. Are they all private or are they part of the system to date more accurately?? I thought your first scan was at 12 weeks!?!? Or perhaps they're due to other issues, like previous histories and the like?

I'm glad everyone's ok though, my husband thinks I'm addicted to this web site for chatting to you lot but it's so nice to talk to friends who're in the same position. It so makes a difference! Lets hope we're all still here come February next year!

Wishing you all a lovely day!
xx

tabbycat76 · 17/06/2010 11:56

And lulabel27, that's just shit! Anyone of a cynical mind would I guess automatically think it's because of your being pregnant, that really is shit! It's discrimination really!

I was at work yesterday working in an area of the hospital which appeals more than the wards where I currently am. I made it known how much I liked it and they said they'll be having positions soon so I should prepare now and do some more modules to make the interview a walk in the park so to speak. As soon as she learnt kids were on the cards (tho I never revealed I was pregnant) she said ah, well, that could be a problem! Cheeky! Like 2 seconds before she said because I was young and at the beginning of my career I'd be perfect and now I want children I'm not?!?!??! Keep yer bloody job is what I thought! And for you lulabel27 I guess your dream job is still out there, you just haven't come across it just yet, but you will! And you'll be a great asset to the team! Some people are so blinkered it's unreal!

Honeywitch · 17/06/2010 12:22

Lulabel27 that is dreadful! I wonder whether your sudden impulse to tell was a blessing in disguise though, and you are better off not working for a company that doesn't see the bigger picture and value you as you are? Also, as tabbycat76 says, I am sure you will find your dream job again once the baby is here - your previous experience will all still count!

Have been reading a Zita West book - don't like it - bit hectoring in style, and also makes a lot of assumptions that I am having negative feelings. Much preferring Miriam Stoppard.

Other news - my Oriental cat gave birth on Tuesday. EIGHT kittens!!! 4 Siamese and 4 Oriental - they are so gorgeous! It seems to be the house of fertility right now - we have chicks too! (3 Araucana chicken chicks).

:-)

Pebblestone · 17/06/2010 12:24

I have exactly the same problem, I have worked really hard and just been offered a dream job starting next month. I have decided not to tell them until I start as I am so early. I found this a really hard decision as I am in the Army and I knew that if they told me I would not be going to the new job and that would also mean not being able to live with my husband who is also in the Army. It's touch but I looked at the options, what if I lost the baby then had a crap job too. I also figured that in the scheme of things I am just a number to them and they would have to find a way of getting around it. Although the Army isn't sexist quite a lot of people get annoyed when a girl gets a high profile job and then gets pregnant. I think I just feel like I am being unprofessional or keeping something form them that they should know.

Anyway I am sticking to my guns for now

KnitterNotTwitter · 17/06/2010 12:37

Hey

Thought I'd let you know that my 7 weeks scan went fine this morning. Having seen nothing at the 5 week scan but the sac today there was a baby and a heartbeat and EVERYTHING. So relieved that I cried.

We've also decided to tell close family on Fathers Day. It's impossible to keep it a secret this time and they'll be so excited after we lost the ectopic baby in March...

cler · 17/06/2010 12:42

I cant believe how ill i feel. Ive totally gone off my food because i feel so sick and im so tired constantly. I dont remember feeling this bad with the other 3. x

angels1 · 17/06/2010 12:43

lulabel27 that's terrible, I'm really sorry, but everything happens for a reason even if you can't see it now (I had a mc last year and it prompted my then bf and I to get married, so now I have a DH and did the whole wedding planning bits in 10 weeks).

Just think that, with their attitude, you don't want to work for them. Something else will come along because it always does, and it will be just right for you

On a complete change of subject and unrelated rambling, I've just discovered I can plug my laptop into my TV and watch my computer screen on a big screen I've downloading exciting bits from itunes to watch to try to cheer me up from tiredness etc - only thing is it's taken about 2 hours to download 3 episodes of lost, I'll be here all day!

GinaFB · 17/06/2010 13:11

Lulabel27 thats awful news, I'm so sorry. They are totally in the wrong with that, perhaps speak to CAB if you want to take it any further?

KnitterNotTwitter I'm so glad everything is going well! Its such a relief to see the heart beat!!

Can't wait to see the bean again! another 5 weeks and counting! xx

Dropdeadfred · 17/06/2010 13:26

Hi all...congratulations everyone on your pregnancies!
Are there any of you that could answer my thread in Pregnancy re: ClearBlue tests....thanks!!

nicb79 · 17/06/2010 13:57

tabbycat76 I'm completely off sex!! and in my last pregnancies this improved but my husband was off sex as soon as the bump started to get inbetween us!

I'm really tired today and after mopping my kitchen floor I feel like going to bed...but instead my 3 year old has had me playing Ben 10 and spiderman.

Thank-you everyone for updating your news, very helpful.
xx

Deliaskis · 17/06/2010 15:20

Having a funny sort of day. Nothing drastic to report, but last night at my singing group I felt a bit rough - it was warm and we pretty much stand up for 3 hours, plus singing itself is fairly physically demanding because of all the breath control. I felt a bit woozy afterwards and a bit upset as I had assumed something like that would be fine for a while yet.

Am a bit headachey today (feels like dehydration headache like on a hot day, but I'm drinking and drinking and drinking...) and am also majorly exhausted...just nearly fell asleep at my desk.

I really feel a bit lame as it seems like I have no reason to be so tired this early, but I guess my body is busy doing things that I can't see!

Have told one close person at work though so feel a bit better that someone will be looking out for me if anything happens whilst here.

Need a bit of TLC from DH tonight methinks!

D
