Heavens anyone would rather be in any other position but ours and being pregnant is (for most) great (exluding the piles, the heartburn, constantly getting up for a wee...!) but is there anything you do miss but need to avoid? For some reason I seem to want the stuff I can't have more when I'm pregnant. My top three are:

*Soft Boiled Eggs
*Hot Baths
*Wine!

Only about 9 weeks so know I'll soon be adding sleeping on my tummy to the list!

Why can't you have latte from starbucks?

goodname · 18/05/2010 15:30

Really hot baths

A cold glass of wine after gardening in the sun (but have to say by this stage, 38 weeks , I am really not that bothered about drinking.

I really missed skiing this year, esp as I had to go to France anyway and watch everyone else having fun.

What I mostly miss is being unstressed. There seems to be a lot too worry/think about as soon as you get pregnant.

I miss me the most - I have turned into an overtired, overemotional shadow of my former self, I miss feeling in control.
I miss sleep
I miss being able to eat without feeling sick
Chocolate is currently giving me killer indigestion
Being able to sit down for more than 20 mins without killer back ache.

9 weeks to go then I never have to do this again

I have vivid memories of just after my daughter was born - everything tasted better, I could eat without feeling ill - twas bliss - I can't wait.

Got 2 weeks in France booked for Sept - going to eat cheese, pate, drink wine, I can't wait

Yes, it's bad enough when we get conflicting advice from different sources, now we're getting conflicting advice from the same source .

msjayjay · 18/05/2010 17:44

Runny Fried Egg
Hot Baths
Going to the toilet in a commercial break and getting back in time for the next half or start of the next programme and being able to watch a whole programme without the need to go the toilet.

I miss:

My memory
My ability to string sentences together coherently
Walking fast
Feta cheese
Sushi
Going a whole night without getting up for the loo once or twice....

alannabanana · 18/05/2010 18:23

uh oh...ive been eating feta...thought it was ok??
i miss sleeping on my tummy loads, and the ability to turn over in ones sleep without thinking about it - these days it takes such effort it proper wakes me up!

defo miss having a drink - not getting pissed as such, just being able to join in with a bubbly toast or having a cheeky pint in a pub garden with DH after work.

ValPal · 18/05/2010 18:25

WINE, WINE and WINE (in that order!)

porcamiseria · 18/05/2010 18:34

wine
G&T
fags
multiple espressos

yama · 18/05/2010 18:50

Lying on my back.

The missionary position.

Having more than one glass of wine. I have one galss on a Thursday and one on a Saturday but it's not enough.

Being sprightly!

There's no food I miss as I am allowing myself lots of treats like chocolate and ice cream whereas I'm normally very strict.

littlehuman · 18/05/2010 18:58

why cant you have hot bath??

i still have a coffee or a drink now and again not in excess obviously.

DONT miss hubby having to clean the cat litter tray and carrying heavy shopping bags!

Start missing cheese, fried eggs... but copping well so far!

Really miss not being able to take most cold/bronchitis medicines , so googleling natural hippy way to feel better :-)

Sonilaa · 18/05/2010 19:07

why cant you have hot bath??
can bring on contractions

nickytwotimes · 18/05/2010 19:07

I miss being able to bend over at the middle.

I miss having enough energy to get through the day!

Decongestants and anti-inflammatory drugs.

Don't personally bother about avoiding certain foods/hot baths (ffs!)/coffee, etc so nothing to miss there. I am more than just a human incubator! Get really pissed off at level of pregnancy paranoia encouraged in this country tbh.

Antidote · 18/05/2010 19:18

I miss:

  1. My brain functioning within normal parameters
  2. My normal amount of coffee (not helping with 1)
  3. Pate
  4. Stinky Cheese
  5. Cycling to work, especially now it's getting sweaty on the tube.
  6. Sailing: GP advised against 'contact sport' and seeing as it's a pretty full on type of boat that involves a harness like a windsurfer, it seems best not to .
memphis83 · 18/05/2010 19:35

i miss being able to paint my own toe nails, drink a coffee (baby kicks for hours after the smallest whiffof the stuff), pate on toast, runny egg and soldiers, riding motorbike, steak so rare its still mooing, and most of all feeling in control of my life and people talking to me like a human rather than a baby making machine!!

EmmaBemma · 18/05/2010 19:53

alannabannana - feta is indeed fine, check out the Food Standards Agency website here:

www.eatwell.gov.uk/agesandstages/pregnancy/whenyrpregnant/

In particular, the following quote:

+++++++++++++

FOODS YOU DON'T NEED TO AVOID

Many types of cheese including:
Hard cheese, such as Cheddar and Parmesan
Feta
Ricotta
Mascarpone
Cream cheese
Mozzarella
Cottage cheese
Processed cheese, such as cheese spreads

Mookymoo · 18/05/2010 20:00

Sex! (more to do with lack of libido and generally size/position difficulties)
Sushi!
Cider!

7 weeks left, I intend to get all of the above as quickly as possible afterwards...In this case I think the order of ability will be

Cider!
Sushi!
Sex!

Bumperliouzzzzzz · 18/05/2010 20:20

Sleep
Sanity
Sleep
11pm
A day without crying
Being able to buckle my shoes
My size 12 knickers
My parking ability

I'm afraid that this time round I haven't really worried too much about what I eat/drink (cheese, soft eggs, wine) or baths. The only thing that I have given second thought to is the cleanliness of my hands when up at the allotment and we are having lunch. I think it's a toxoplasmosis risk or something from the soil.

LeoniPoni · 18/05/2010 20:22

Oooh where to start...!

Wine is the biggy for me. I've always enjoyed a cold glass of white wine at the end of a long week/day. I was cooking the other day and used a bit of white wine for the sauce and as I poured it in the pan I actually SWOONED!

But a very close second is sleeping on my tummy. I've never been able to sleep any other way so its not easy resisting. SPD doesn't help!

I've had a couple of sneaky rareish steaks. Heaven

comixminx · 18/05/2010 20:34

I've missed wine less than I thought I would but still will be glad when it's derestricted. Not that I haven't had a glass or two throughout the week but still.

Bending, I miss bending already and am only 25 weeks... sigh.

Some of my clothes. I am progressively putting more of it away until afterwards now.

Bumperliouzzzzzz · 18/05/2010 20:39

Do you know what, being pg gives me an incredible urge to smoke! I don't smoke, and while I occasionally socially smoked at uni I have never smoked when not drunk (or sharing a sympathy fag with a friend) but knowing I 'can't' just makes me want to go out and buy a packet of cigarettes and smoke them all! Isn't that gross?!

I'm afraid I have fallen prey to the demon drink though....

sassy34264 · 18/05/2010 20:52

oh Bumperliouzzzzzz, I definately don't miss my size 10/12 knickers. I am loving these size 14 full briefs from Tesco!!

DH says they look like a nappy- but too comfy to care. I shall cry when I have to give them up.

lovechoc · 18/05/2010 20:54

how can you not have a hot bath???

ReshapeWhileDamp · 18/05/2010 21:12

I miss a nice glass of wine, and BEER. DH is enjoying a bottled bitter as I type. I'll have the odd small glass once I'm past about 20 weeks though.

I always presumed supermarket salmonella-free eggs were fine (though the official guidelines haven't changed in years ) so I don't fret about home-made ice cream, or peer at my scrambled eggs to make sure there are no runny parts.

I do miss sex (am paranoid about another mc and I know it's not meant to be implicated, but if I started spotting after a bit of the other, I'd feel terrible and so would DH) so we're waiting until my libido comes back after about 14 weeks. I do remember earth-shattering (but rather scary) orgasms from last time, though!

I'm missing fitting into the nice dresses I was wearing a couple of months ago, and now won't for the next two or three years (I hoard weight while breastfeeding!). Oh well.
