Heavens anyone would rather be in any other position but ours and being pregnant is (for most) great (exluding the piles, the heartburn, constantly getting up for a wee...!) but is there anything you do miss but need to avoid? For some reason I seem to want the stuff I can't have more when I'm pregnant. My top three are:

*Soft Boiled Eggs
*Hot Baths
*Wine!

Only about 9 weeks so know I'll soon be adding sleeping on my tummy to the list!

not being an insomniac
not having to wear one of the same 5 tops everyday
white wine on a Friday night
not having to be a contortionist to shave down below

I have brie baguette for breakfast and sushi for lunch so I suppose on that front I am a bad mummy to be

When #2 comes out I think I will miss being able to focus all my energy on keeping ds happy

LittleBeth53 · 19/05/2010 05:26

I totally miss my clothes. I had hundreds of lovely pieces of clothing before & now I'm restricted to the same few tops every other day & 4 pairs of pants/maternity jeans.

How disappointing maternity jeans are.
I know they're meant to accomodate my bump but they're all uncomfortable, unshapely, unflattering on the legs & mumsy. And terrible shades of navy/royal blue!

I'm told it'll be a while before I can squish myself into my pre-pregnancy clothes.

I'm only 23 & oh how I miss my skin tight, bleach denim, torn knee jeans & heels!

LittleBeth53 · 19/05/2010 05:31

Oh, and I miss my bikini area being groomed. I had an internal & took my mum along as we were going for lunch after & when she saw the state of me down there she said, "blimey beth, you're smuggling Don King in your pants!" I just can't be bothered!

alannabanana · 19/05/2010 07:53

ditto on all fronts littlebeth (every pun intended!). i miss being able to see my fanny in order to groom it! i also find waxing hurts more in pregnancy weirdly, so might have give the immac a go - would be nice to be hair-free for this birth i think!

also ditto on the clothes thing - all my nice stuff is in big storage bags under the bed, while the wardrobe is 'filled' with the same 3 pairs of maternity trousers, and same 5 tops.

i also miss being able to sit down without planning how to do it first.

ho hum, 35 weeks today, can see light at the end of the tunnel

MPuppykin · 19/05/2010 08:37

Wine
champagne
strong vodka martinis with olives.
repeat.

sigh.

Frankly, I have ignored almost every piece of advice, as when I started researching things further there was no consensus and things were so conflicted and I got told different things by different midwives and I got sick of it all. I do not have mouldy cheese, do not have pate and have drastically limited alcohol (i have a shot glass size of white wine evey Wednesday and Sunday.DH thinks I am paranoid... i am!). I never ever drink a drop in public though, not since I went to have a sip of wine at a party at New Year's and got it smacked so hard out of my hand by another guest that the bloody glass broke. Prawn and mayonnaise sandwiches were a craving for most of the second trimester. Last weekend we went to a very boozy bbq (have you noticed how boring it is when everyone but you is tipsy?) and I refused even a sip of DH's beer. A male friend said 'oh you are not having anything at all?' i said I was not and he said - as he Guzzled His Umpteenth Glass 'Oh well, 9 months is not very long is it?' I could have punched him.

zobopopstar · 19/05/2010 08:54

my baby is 3 months old now, but do remember. i also was a bad mummy to be, but what i missed most was people's boundaries. some touch your tummy and ask personal things; others will helpfully point out everything you're doing wrong. women who had not had children in 30 years ruined my tea break when i was trying to have a coffee

mamjo · 19/05/2010 10:24

Having a social life..........
I have turned into a miserable old cow who hates being in the company of anyone having a few drinks and letting their hair down because I can't.
I hate talking to people who are drinking because you are not on the same page, so whats the point.
I am usually the life and soul but can't stand going out anymore.
Restaurants are just full of food I can't eat and drinks I can't have......so again why bother.

rant over.....

Katyfish · 19/05/2010 11:25

Good news for ladies avoiding sushi, prawns and other shellfish/mussels! They are all ok to eat while pregnant, according to the UK Food Standards Agency (with a few provisos).

Check out www.eatwell.gov.uk/asksam/agesandstages/pregnancy/#A219865

Hope this cheers a few of you up!

BongoWinslow · 19/05/2010 12:22

Rowing on the river in the sunshine (tummy too big)
Wine
Blue cheese
Tummy sleeping
Hot baths

I eat rare steak. Don't like runny eggs but I still eat the left over cake mixture - just make sure I get British eggs. For me, the tiny risk is outweighed by the de-stressing effect if I only do it occasionally. Ditto a tiny glass of Baileys once in a while!

jkb1980 · 19/05/2010 12:27

I miss licking the mixing bowl (raw egg) - forgot this morning and had 2 seconds of finger-licking bliss before swearing and scaring the decorator!

jkb1980 · 19/05/2010 12:28

sorry cross post Bongo

yellowflowers · 19/05/2010 12:28

Tea. Hot drinks make me feel sick.

KFW · 19/05/2010 12:35

Sushi
rare steak
pate
salami
parma ham
blue cheese

I am ignoring the egg thing (except when in a restaurant). Salmonella is rare and I understand that it doesnt cross the placenta (unlike listeriosis) so it just makes you vomit. No change there then

Also - can anyone tell me - can you eat runny cheese which is pasteurised? You can get taleggio (my favourite cheese) from Waitrose pasteurised and also camembert and brie etc. I have read conflicting views about it. I did tuck into some pasteurised taleggio a few weeks ago but the guilt wasnt worth it. I want a guilt free noshing session!

Weirdly not missing alcohol at all. And I am normally a booze hound (as my hubby so politely calls me)

slimyak · 19/05/2010 13:04

Just got the BFP for Number 2 but I've had 3 MC's so not counting my chickens - vacinated or not- for a while yet. Just dropped in to remind myself of what I hope to be happily missing in the months to come.

When I had DD I got Gestational diabeties at 20 weeks, oh how I missed
chocolate
cakes
biscuits
fruit in large amounts.

I'm scoffing sneaky dairy milk now until someone tells me I can't anymore!

What do they say - absense makes the heart grow fonder. My sister brought me a huge box of Thorntons Continentals into hospital after I had DD. I tell you chocolate never tasted so good

flopsy1974 · 19/05/2010 13:26

I would kill for a Pimms and Lemonade in the back garden now that the weather is getting warmer.
Oh well, only 10 weeks to go.

munchkinland · 19/05/2010 13:34

Myself - I miss myself...only 7 weeks to go, but I really miss the fun person I used to be before I was all consumed with pregnancy and tiredness (and when I could have a beer or two!!)
Oh and festivals - summer is approaching and this is the 1st year I haven't been to a festival in about 8 years!!!

emmyloo2 · 19/05/2010 16:39

Totally right about the tea. I still have 2 cups a day but it doesn't taste nearly as good. On the weekends I don't drink it at all. And I used to drink 5 cups a day minimum.

I miss being able to run for as long as I want and I miss doing stomach crunches.

I must admit, I am still eating sushi from the one place where I am confident it is nice and fresh. I do feel guilty when I do though. I thought I read it was ok as long as the fish was frozen before hand.

QueenofDreams · 19/05/2010 17:44

What I miss the most?
Not throwing up EVERYTHING I eat.
Having enough energy to function.

The rest is pretty inconsequential by comparison.

Bumperliouzzzzzz · 19/05/2010 19:14

Agree with missing yourself. I definitely missed the normal me

lovechoc · 19/05/2010 20:20

there's nothing wrong with having a warm/hot bath. not sure why there's scaremongering on this thread over this. As long as you're not scolding yourself it's pretty safe to have a bath during pregnancy!

shadowpuss · 20/05/2010 01:05

Pate, salami, and all the wonderful soft/moulded cheeses...... (sigh)

WA4 · 20/05/2010 17:50

I'm desperately missing going for a run, sleeping on my tummy and being able to rub cream into my feel.
Only 2 days to go though!

Lindsay2610 · 20/05/2010 18:02

Chicken liver pate is my big one, and that second glass of wine (I've had the odd first small glass since 12 weeks).

I still eat runny eggs, I looked up the chances of getting salmonella in the UK, given all the chickens are vaccinated - they're miniscule and then only that there may be a trace on the shell. So I wash my hands after handling them, then enjoy a nice fried egg!

blueskybumblebee3 · 20/05/2010 22:06

Cold beer
Walking faster than the local pensioners
Pate
Really could murder a beer...

CostaRica · 20/05/2010 23:16

Fitting into my clothes!
