I am suffering SPD (for the second time) and just need to vent without driving everyone else on my pregnancy thread mental. Not that they aren't supportive but I still have 20 weeks to go and I don't want to ruin their pregnancies by talking about mine!

Please come and join me so I don't feel so alone, and feel free to share tips if you have any....

Hello Sorry to crash your thread, I have seen it in the pregnancy list many times and often wondered about it having never had SPD myself. So far... I posted on the October thread about pains that I was having and someone said that it sounded like how their SPD started. I was wondering if anyone had the time to talk to me about this. I woke up on my back with a sharp pain very low down on the left hand side, well below my bump. When I tried to turn over it was really painful, so that I couldn't actually turn over. When I did get over the pain was in my back on the left hand side and down my leg. It took me ages to get going today and I had sharp pain on and off all day - changing gear when driving, getting up after sitting, bending my leg to take my trousers off. It's still really sore and when I apply any pressure (ie to wee or poo) - the pain is sharp again both low on the left and in my back. My doctor is treating me for a UTI just in case but thinks that it is 'mechanical' pain. Sorry for the long post, does this sound familiar to anyone? Thank you, SB

Hey everyone!!! LOADS of new people - thats ace/rubbish depending on how you look at it!

Just a quick update on the obs physio I saw today - gave me a giant tubigrip which I can't wait to put on, DH WILL NOT be able to resist me in that!! Plus loads of advice, exercises, exercise classes, aquanatal and acupuncture if/when I need it. Really helpful, but I did ask about manipulation nd they said nope, does more harm than good apparently

Had 2 days off work with migraine and started to think I was hamming up the SPD it got so much better, but then back at work for an hour today and it is worse than ever!.... I know, I know, don't say it!

SamanthaB I think it might have been me that replied to you, does sound like it could well be SPD, get a physio referral asap and have a look at the pelvic partnership website, really useful info on there.

Morning everyone. Got no sleep at all as baby was wriggling all night! Has anyone ever had a late scan? I'm just wondering as the mw is sending me for one to check that baby isn't breech ( I'm sure baby isn't) as when she tries to feel the head I wince so much. We don't know the sex. Can you tell the sex on a late scan or is baby all curled up? We don't really want to know! it's funny as 2 weeks ago she told me baby was 2/5 engaged but wriggler might have wriggled round.

MrsS I had that trouble with dc1, I'd take time off work to rest and then within an hour or so of being back at work I'd be unable to walk, taxi home etc. I wish the physio world would make it's mind up about manipulation, someone needs to do some serious research. My physio says that what she does can't actually make it worse, if it doesn't need straightening then what she does will have no effect. The only problem is having to lie on your side with your leg held up can leave you staggering about for the rest of the day. I was hoping for a tubigrip, but then they don't call you mrs Sx for nothing!

Anyone got an opinion on baths? I'm not sure how much help a warm bath is and I'm wondering if getting in and out actually makes things worse.

Well LooLOO, this will give you a laugh,... make sure you have a towel under you just in case!! I squeezed my not very small body into the giant tubigrip so it was from my boobs to below my bum then waddled in to see DH,...
Me: Sexy hey?! I bet you can't resist me in this!!
DH: Errrrm... not really, you look like a giant pork joint!!!
Brilliant!

As for sex at late scans - USUALLY really hard to see as everything is so squashed up but jsut occasionally you can spot boys bits sticking out! But if you tell them before they start then they can avoid that area when showing you. To be honest it can be really hard to identify anything clearly so late on. Obviously it is fine for telling if breech or not!

I reckon they should give us one of those old lady sit down baths when you start with SPD or with the hammock thing that lowers you down! ALong with a stanner stairlift! [grin

I want one of those baths with a door in the side that you see in adverts. And forget the stairlift, I want to move to a bungalow.

(Sits down on sofa) Hello there, I went to the Docs today and have joined the SPD club.

I've spent the last week in agony, it feels like I've been kicked in the groin 24/7. Not very nice. But there you go, would love to know where you can get one of those lovely pain free blooming pregnancies from. To cap it all off, I've got a low lying placenta as well.

Oh well, 19 weeks to go.

Ooooh theres an SPD boom! Hey hey!

beccas At least you can see the light at the end of the tunnel now huh? I'm 39 weeks today and I'm finally starting to feel like there is an end in sight!

SamanthaB We feel your pain! It does sound like SPD to me. Same advice as MrsS - Get to the physio asap.

Hermya When you figure out how to achieve 'one of those lovely pain free blooming pregnancies' let me know how you did it and I'll give you a shiny new penny and a chocolate cake!

MrsS Hahahaha! Pork joint? Charming. I know I look like a giant maggot in mine.

LooL00 I know what you mean about the bath situation. I do put up with the pain of getting in and out (with DF's help) because the relief while I'm in the nice hot water is so lovely. Some nights I wouldn't get a wink of sleep if it wasn't for the snooze I sometimes have in the bath! I always feel a bit less sore afterwards as well.

Well my D Day is a week today. No signs. I hope it's not going to be another tardy one like poor Whimsi!

Hope all you lovely SPD ladies are looking forward to nice weekends!

Hello everyone. Welcome and commiserations new folk.

I had a triumph today, walked to nursery and back with standing up socialising once there. It's only probably half a mile, although I was vertical for probably an hour. And I haven't walked it for at least 2 months.

In good news, my pelvis etc felt fine during and after. In bad news, my stitches and (the shame) piles were agony after. Clearly nature's way of making us take it easy!

Leoni I hope your's doesn't hang around too much longer. I was getting very cross with all the texts asking where it was.

MrsS I always thought my tubigrip would make a nice outfit for a night on the tiles. Just not for me. Maybe for Mila Jovavich in Fifth Element.

Welcome Hermya, think I've seen you on the Oct thread? We must be due around the same time then? 22nd Oct for me!

Leoni maggot? I love it!

Whimsi oh yeah, pork joint or Mila Jovovich??? It's a close call!!
Take it easy, sounds like you are doing well but don't over do it... sound familiar?

Welcome hermya! i've been counting down from 20 weeks. Only 4 weeks to go.

I hate people who have blooming pregnancies as they never do it quietly. When i was about 8 months pg with dc2 I dragged myself(mildish spd) to the soft play and asked one of the other mums who was due the same momth as me how she was feeling. She replied 'i've just given up competetive badminton but I'm still playing.' Could've hit her as I staggered away.

Well done with the walking whimsi, hope your stitches feel better soon.

Trying to have a quiet weekend.

Hope it's soon Leoni!

MrsS Yeah I think you may have done, I'm due 25/10. Can't wait.

I've just been watching Russell Howards Good news and my word that man is funny. Only down side of laughing so much is that my pelvis kept twanging. Ooooowwwww!!

I am due 22nd Oct!!! I think you might live near me too, sure I saw you on a local thread.

I'm trying not to let Family Guy distract me from my essay... I know, I know ladies I should be done by now, had a really productive day on it actually! And hve managed to avoid going on MN til now!!!

LooLOO what??? You're telling me you don't play the odd game of badminton yourself?? Personally I'm partial to a game of lawn tennis myself!!

Just about managing to have a quiet weekend. But have gone a bit nesty and started to pack my emergency hospital bag in case homebirth doesn't happen. Unfortunately all the bags are in the loft and obviously I'm not going up there, DH is out with the dc and so my hospital bag is a sainsburys orange bag (not even a posh bag for life). I'm becoming really decrepit and immobile but I'm ok at night as long as I don't turn over.new mattress is fab.

I'm dreading going to see the consultant and the scanner on Monday, I just hope when I tell them I can lie on my back for literally 1 minute they take it seriously and just get on with it quick.

Report
xMrsSx · 13/06/2010 18:11

LooLOO shouldnt be a massive problem, ask them if there is anyway you can lie on your side if that is easier... might even be easier for them to scan you... it is sometimes.

Just had a good giggle at MrsS admission of lawn tennis. Of course I find tennis a bit too gentle. My preference is rugby.

If you are reading this MrsS - Get back to your essay!

LooL00 Glad your mattress is working out well! Mine and DF's bed is quite new and comfortable but certainly not big enough for the 3 of us. How to tell him he needs to find alternative accommodation...?

If you can afford it go to an osteopeth or ask for a referal from your gp. I suffered with spd and pyhsio was useless and I could barely walk by the time I gave birth. I was still suffering 3 months after I'd given birth and couldnt crouch down to pick up my son and turning in bed was painful etc etc. Went to see an osteopath (why I didn't go before I do not know) and in 3 sessions I was fixed. Go now while you are still pregnant to at least stop it getting worse you do not have to suffer with this condition!!!
