I am suffering SPD (for the second time) and just need to vent without driving everyone else on my pregnancy thread mental. Not that they aren't supportive but I still have 20 weeks to go and I don't want to ruin their pregnancies by talking about mine!

Please come and join me so I don't feel so alone, and feel free to share tips if you have any....

Hi summerdaisy i would definitly get signed off again, the more you can rest, and the easier you take things, the more chance you will have of the pain not getting as worse!!

Greetings ohex rest girl!!!! i know what you mean about the physio, mine was useless, just told me what not to do, do what i feel i can do, dont push it, gave me some leaflets, crutches and support belt and sent me on my way for the rest of the pregnancy. i think its worth it, even if only to have the condition recognised so you can get the right pain relief and support for the other aspects of your pregnancy

mrsM yeah its a fine line to draw, i have a bad back too, resting good for the hips, a bit of movement, best for the back, bad for eachother!!!

looloo i hope the kids have fun, dont do too much yourself!

whimsi yeah always make cake - although it sounds like you are doing a lot, not only for someone with SPD, but the heavily and overdue pregnant should entitle you to just sit down!!

aaaaand me - warning to everyone who is considering doing lots because they feel like they can, because suddenly walking down the road isnt a huge struggle DONT do too much. i was soo enthused that i was able to potter around the house fine yesterday that in the afternoon i went for a walk, thought i could get to my fav cafe up the top of town, (normal person 5min walk), it took me 40mins to get just under a 1/4 of the way there before i was almost passing out with exhuastion and pain!
i rested in the evening, but spent all of the night crying in pain and unable to move even the smallest amount, ended up taking some codeine (i havent had any since i was in labour, and it was day 4 yesterday) at 4am in a complete pain induced haze!!
ive had to spend the day doing pretty much nothing!!

im still waiting for my appt to see the physio, but ive got another week or so before they said i would be seeing them.
back to the sofa...

whimsicalname · 03/06/2010 17:23

hello everyone. Welcome new folk. More the merrier!

looloo i feel exactly the same taking my kids in the car. I've indoctrinated them for years about walking and cycling, and now they cry about killing polar bears when we go in the car. Still, it won't be forever, and at least they're going in the car to go and do somehting active.

Bad luck everyone who's in pain today. I opted for making rhubarb fool instead of cake. gallons of it. yum. making me feel better.

I've got a sweep at 9.30 tomorrow. fingers crossed this time tomorrow I've got a baby!

xMrsSx · 03/06/2010 19:40

Ok ok, sorry for being out of touch, just a bit busy with some long days at work (don't shout!!!!).

Welcome summerdaisy and ohex, nice to have some new bums on the sofa so to speak. Especially as people keep deciding to have their babies!!!

Speaking of which, kt so glad you are home and feeling better and make sure you take your own advice about the resting!

whimsi good luck with the sweep. x

I have been referred to a proper, knowledgeable, specialist physio via my occi health dept and they sound fabulous, do exercises, aquanatal, acupuncture etc etc and run special SPD groups for hobbly women. I can't wait to go, it's next Thurs and I am so happy I feel like there is some hope at last. So to anyone who has a bit of rubbish physio, persevere, there are some NHS services out there for you.... just need to find them.

Anyway, I have another essay to write so really need to try and crack on with it.

Hoping everyone has good night sleeps xxx

ktwiltshire · 03/06/2010 20:08

mrsS that sounds brilliant, shame everything is regional/stays within the trust in terms of services like that.
and wow an SPD group..must be quite a few your way to warrant a group!

good luck whimsi i hope it kick starts things for you and your out of pain soon...or in pain soon but just for the labour bit!

xMrsSx · 03/06/2010 20:25

I know, I almost feel like I'll be betraying you guys by seeing actual real live people with SPD!!!!

It's in the Trust I work in, but that's not the same one as I have my antenatal care at. I guess I'm lucky, but just want ppl to know help DOES exist! Might be worth ringing round maternity/physio units? There is no way I could have afforded private physio/chiro/osteo etc.

OhExpletive · 03/06/2010 21:40

Thanks for the welcome

whimsicalname · 04/06/2010 08:27

my trust (Bristol) had a great hydrotherapy group that I went to for a couple of months. My MW was really unhelpful (not usual mw, and normally i don't have a bad word to say about my health centre) so I went to a private physio. I don't really approve of myself for this (lefty guilt) but used her for a referral and to avoid 6 week waiting list, and then haven't been back. She knew I was doing that and was quite happy about it.
Even tho I only had one physio appt, it was worth it for the queue jumping and reassurance and referral. I think I'll go back to her for a postnatal check as well.

LooL00 · 04/06/2010 09:01

Well that's cheered me up mrsS it will be really interesting to hear how many of your RL spd group land up sofa ridden, or if regular treatment sorts people out a bit.Or maybe we'll never see you on the sofa now you've got RL moaners to hang out with!

Good luck with the sweep whimsi.

Take it easy kt you have just had a c section and might be a bit wobbly from that!

Hi everyone else!

SummerDaisy · 04/06/2010 10:15

Good advice kt, I've got to stop thinking if I am ok for a bit I am 'back to normal'. Poor you, just take it one day (step) at a time!
I must say that my midwife, doctor, and the physio lady have all been great.

Oh whimsicalname, I'm in Bristol too - I have been scheduled in for hydrotherapy next week - can't wait!!
Went swimming yesterday, (arms only, legs dragging, mainly just bobbing about!) and it was really nice

whimsicalname · 04/06/2010 13:44

Hi there summerdaisy. Are you going to the Thurs group at the BRI? It's lovely! I'll let you know if I've had this bloody baby by then (poor neglected third born) so you can tell them!

Sweep fine. I'd worked myself into a real anxiety about it, thinking i'd go into labour in the car on the way home and have to get a builder to deliver me in the boot. As you do. I know I can't expect it to be instant, but you know, chop chop.

LooL00 · 04/06/2010 16:48

i thought the mw would come to your house to do the sweep whimsi.Don't know why I thought that as I've never had one and hope I never do!maybe another half ton of rhubarb fool would help.

I'm staggering about today like a drunk. It's like I've lost my steering. If the kids get in my way I can't stop or change direction I just mow them down.never mind, I can have a bit of a rest over the weekend, half term finished officially at 3.10pm and this baby will def be born before the summer hols.

xMrsSx · 04/06/2010 20:27

whimsi that's made me laugh, a builder and you giving birth in the boot!! Brilliant! Come on baby!!!

kt I reckon it's all the pie eating that goes on up north that contributes to the prevelance of spd up here

LooLOO I doubt I will be abandoning the MN sofa anytime soon... I'm sure that RL people won't be half as good to moan with as you guys!! I will deffo let you know how it goes.

Had a great chat with manager today who is going to tailor what I do at work to fit with what I can actually do, also might reduce my hours a bit.

So all in all it has been a good week for me, now if only I didn't have this god damned essay to write!! Boo Hiss.
xxx

whimsicalname · 04/06/2010 21:17

good luck with the essay mrsS you'll be glad when it's all done. and well done on all your other acheivements! what a busy week.

looloo wouldn't the etiquette of having a sweep at home be weird? I mean like sofa or marital bed? or the boys' bunk bed?

It really wasn't that bad. still doesn't seem to have worked though. spicy cajun chips for tea and pineapple for pudding.

ktwiltshire · 04/06/2010 22:39

thats brilliant mrsS, good to know your work are starting to look at taking care of you through this

whimsi - i dont think they work that quickly, but you just never know, i understand your fear! although it is a bit unfair that it wasnt done at home. i hope your baby makes an apperance soon!

summerdaisy its too tempting to do that bit more because it feels ok, im still trying to find the balance!

well i rested up almost completely yesterday, just potterd around the house and picked the kids up from nursery. Today ive done more, we took DD to the physio (she has positional talipes) and went home via tescos, figured walking on the complete flat would be the best way to start, managed to do the entire shop, wasnt that big, and we stuck straight to the list and didnt hang around, and i managed it! i was only a little close to almost passing out by the end, so i figure thats a huge improvement. time will tell tonight whether it was too much, especially considering im fast running out of pain killers and should have gone to the drs today for more, but completely forgot!!!

Hope everyone has a good weekend, lots of sunshine and rest all round!

xMrsSx · 05/06/2010 10:23

kt you sound like you are doing really well, though I reckon you are right about keeping on the flat before you tackle Ben Nevis or anything.... maybe leave tht for next week?

whimsi I agree, hving a sweep at home might be a bit odd, mind you, that's why I wouldn't really consider a home birth, don't fancy the cat looking on and the neighbours having a sneaky peek!!
Thanks for the luk, I will need it. Really need to have made a significant start on this essay this weekend, but just end up on here titting about or on ebay looking at cots or something... I NEED MOTIVATION!!

So... back to the grind stone... BOO HISS!!

LooL00 · 05/06/2010 12:01

Hi everyone, I'd just assumed that with a home birth the mw would come round for the sweep.I think having a sweep would seem a bit odd whatever. Defo the sofa as if the mw comes to do bp and fundal height I just lie on the sofa for it. We are really lucky round here in that the community midwives seem to have a lot of freedom to offer to pop round if they can see that dragging yourself into the surgery is getting you down. Also my mw drives past my village on the way to work so quite likes making her first call here and by the time she's done the traffic has died down a bit.
Really staggering about at the moment can't decide whether to get some crutches off the physio, don't like the idea of them and I'm a puny skinny armed thing so I don't know if my arms are up to it.

Very hot here and I might have to give up the satin PJs.

Have a nie weekend everyone and rest rest rest.

ktwiltshire · 05/06/2010 18:47

looloo - i know exactly what you mean, i have really weak arm muscles, or rather non existant arm muscles! but the cruthces helped a lot in walking better, putting the weight more evenly so that i didnt damage my 'better' side when moving around. my midwives have been brilliant and when i could no longer drive they came over to the house for visits, as i had no other way of getting to clinic.

spent the afternoon by the beach, but not on it (cafe by it), was really nice to be out, although i now have burnt boobs!! more of a relaxing day walking wise, going to the park tomorrow, so should be nice an easy, at least i can just sit down and watch everyone run about!
still waiting on my appointment with the physio to come through, starting to get annoyed, may have to chase it. DH has his appointment to see his surgeon re his biopsy on tuesday, nervous but glad we can ask questions directly

LooL00 · 05/06/2010 19:53

Hope you sort out your physio soon kt. I don't really have a good side just really central pain, maybe because the physio straightened me out. I'll ask her what she thinks about crutches. She straightened me out after dc2 too, I hope your physio can do that.
How's the essay going mrsS?
Hope things start soon whimsi.

whimsicalname · 05/06/2010 21:04

still nothing to report ladies. I'm too grumpy for further comment! Hope you're having good weekends.

xMrsSx · 05/06/2010 21:21

Essay not going well not even got all the journal articles I need printed out yet never mind reading them and writing the blasted thing!!

Oh whimsi don't be grumpy, it's too nice outside! Look at it this way... you will have had your baby by the time I have finished my essay - probably by the time I have started it at this rate!!!!

kt hope you get your physio soon too, though you sound like you are getting better everyday anyhoo. And fingers crossed and lots of luck for Tues, thinking of you. xx

LooL00 · 06/06/2010 10:03

Grumpiness is a good sign that labour is on the way whimsi, particularly the f off and leave me alone kind of grumpiness.
Keep going mrsS that essay will get written eventually. maybe you need to set yourself a series of chocolate rewards for reading those articles!
I'm no worse today but still staggering! We've got a bloody cuckoo that cuckoos in our garden at 4am. DH read that there are only 2 cuckoos in this area, one in our village. Wish there was only one.

xMrsSx · 06/06/2010 10:12

I reckon we could split the cost of a gun then you could get your cuckoo and I could get my flamin wood pigeon or whatever it is!!!

Good luck with the grumpiness then whimsi, if looLOO's theory is correct.... bring on the rage!!!

Whimsi, hve you thought about having a wee tipple? It might straighten you up!!??

LeoniPoni · 06/06/2010 11:14

Whimsi I'm so hoping that your LO gets moving for you soon! I'm only 38+2 and I'm very grumpy, so you you must want to rip someones head off! It must be imminent though!

LooL00 and MrsS I'm sending murderous thoughts to the birds that are driving you crazy! Bloody nature...

Things here are just same old, same old. I'm starting to despise the sound of my pathetic whimper as I'm walking/changing position on couch. In fact, I'm just sick of myself full stop. I find the pregnant version of me insufferable! Bleugh.

xMrsSx · 06/06/2010 12:26

I know exactly what you mean Leoni I make some very strange noises when moving around... DH is constantly making fun of me, but it helps, I find it impossible to bend in any direction without groaning!!

MrsMiamla · 06/06/2010 17:43

ladies.. I learnt an important lesson yesterday, that gardening isn't a good idea! i know I know, DH has already given me the lecture! We used to have a beautiful garden, then we had a building site and at the moment its a combination of the two! I had hoped that if I started clearing some of the stuff that shouldn't be out there (primarily to make it safe to let DS have free reign again) that DH would follow my lead and get going on it himself. My cunning plan didn't work Hey ho

MrsS have you started on that essay yet??!! if not, what are you doing read this? hmmm?

whimsi really hope things start moving in the right direction very soon for you

leoni DS has started copying the noises i'm making! actually makes me realise how humorous i must sound!

kt your afternoon sounds lovely

looloo i'll come and sort out the cuckoo for you if you can reward me in chocolate! DH seems to have found all of my secret stashes and i really want some now!!
