I am suffering SPD (for the second time) and just need to vent without driving everyone else on my pregnancy thread mental. Not that they aren't supportive but I still have 20 weeks to go and I don't want to ruin their pregnancies by talking about mine!

Please come and join me so I don't feel so alone, and feel free to share tips if you have any....

whimsicalname · 06/06/2010 18:13

still nothing to report...

one of my boys was resisting going to bed yesterday and lay on the sofa saying 'i can't move my pelvis hurts'. made me feel like such a whinger.

I too overdid the 'gardening' yesterday. i only really picked up a few sticks and swept up some mud. my children are like puppies with how many sticks we accumulate.

Hope you've all had a good weekend. Thank goodness for school tomorrow half term sufferers. Although I promised I'd have a baby by then. That gives me 15 hours...

ktwiltshire · 06/06/2010 19:38

hey guys, a bit more movement today, although lots of pain, i realised quite stupidly friday night that i didnt have enough pain killers to get me through the weekend, so ive been taking less, which left me in a horrible mood today becaose of the pain, at least i can get to the docs in the morning for some more.

still no word from the physio, going to ask the midwives tomorrow whats happening with that, getting annoyed, i want to stop relying on painkillers, as im not just taking them for the csection, mainly for the hips still.

i really hope that you have the baby soon whimsi, i can only imagine the frustration of being overdue with SPD!!

LooL00 · 07/06/2010 09:40

I've got the physio this afternoon, I'm not sure what she's going to do physiowise but she's going to talk to me about birth. Anyone think of anything I need to ask?

Cuckoo is still cuckooing in our garden, sorry mrsM I've got the neighbours' cat lined up to reward with chocolate.Gardening is a really bad idea! Also walking on rough grass is pretty bad too, I've been sticking to the garden path lately.

So far this morning I've managed to drop the dc at school and nursery with suncream on and hung out the washing. That's just about finished me off.
Don't worry whimsi your baby can't hang on much longer.
Off to sit on the gym ball.

whimsicalname · 07/06/2010 17:40

hello everyone
still here. still pregnant. have had some contractions, but then they stop again. I've heard lots of people say third ones mess about, but this one's taking the proverbial.

Hope you both had success with your respective physios LooLoo and Kt.

fingers crossed for a baby tonight. Ideally after children asleep!

ktwiltshire · 08/06/2010 08:40

aw im so sorry its dragging on whimsi i hope the baby sorts itself too.

missed a call from the physio yesterday whilst out taking the baby to the hospital (needed her jaundice levels checked as its taking a while longer than ideal to get better), shes not in today, so i need to call tomorrow. hopefully she will agree to see me soon and i wont have to wait a month for an appt

LooL00 · 08/06/2010 09:58

Hi there everyone. So why do the third ones mess about? Do they know they're the third one? Poor you whimsi. I'm still at the worrying it's going to turn up early stage which at the end of week 37 will change into operation pineapple.

Dc2 is driving me nuts this morning, I've got a sicky not quite headache and she wants me to do something, anything other than lie on the sofa.

The physio said she wasn't going to straighten me out again as I wasn't that crooked, that basically now baby's head is engaged my pelvic floor is 'trashed' and I should do as little as possible. I asked her about what to do post birth to get everything back together straight and she said it doesn't matter, your body is designed to deal with it and to lie however is comfy. i did comment that my body isn't exactly doing what it's designed to do very well at the moment! So I'm to see her 6 weeks postnatal unless I'm feeling REALLY skippy.
Then I had to walk about 1/4 mile to pay for the car park. Nearly in tears by the time I got back to the car.

Hope everyone is nice and comfy on the spd sofa.

whimsicalname · 08/06/2010 16:21

Finally added a third little boy to my collection this morning at 3.45. Weighed in at a chunky 8lb13 and came out sucking his thumb and membranes intact. As a result, I'm rather broken!

I stood a lot to labour, knelt to push and then stood to do the last bit. It hurt, but seemed managable knowing that my pelvis wouldn't have to do much after. Like when you know you need to have a busy day followed by a quiet one.

My pelvis feels better already, possibly because I'm so preoccupied by stitches, piles and a bruised coccyx!

Thanks so much for all your positive thoughts over the last few days. I could really have done without going 8 days over.

xMrsSx · 08/06/2010 16:44

Whimsi thats brilliant news, well done you!! So glad you are feeling better already.

WOO HOO.... another baby to add to the sofa! You next LooLOO - operation pineapple,... I love it!

I'm having a bad couple of days - migraine, but the extra rest (GP has said to take a couple of days off) is doing wonders for my pelvis. 20 week scan on Fri (actually 21 weeks) which DH is getting very very excited about... I'm more cautious.

BearBear1981 · 08/06/2010 21:37

congrats whimsi.

I'm another SPD mum, into the crying yourself to sleep pains already at 17 weeks into 2nd pregnancy.

Last one went from crutches to wheelchair then hospitalisation on morphine to c-section at 38 weeks when the sickness from the acute and chronic pain became too much, my temp was through the roof and food was not staying in my body. Lovely!!! Really excited about the next 21 weeks til my next c-section!!!!

On the plus side only a few weeks til I find out the sex of bambino numero 2!!! Didn't find out first time but want to prepare this time as will be the last one, no third round of SPD for me. My mother thinks I'm a mad woman going for number 2 after first episode but DD is 16 months now and if I didn't get baby 2 done quickly I'd never do it.

Got appt with cranial osteo next week and hoping to hold off the crutches for a month or so yet, I will try everything first!!! Got to be strong, SPD will not break me!!!!!

ktwiltshire · 08/06/2010 22:03

congrats whimsi im so pleased its finally over and all getting better now! remember not to do too much, i know it can be super tempting because you suddenly have a lot more movemebt than a few days before!!

hi bearbear i feel your pain, with my DD3 the SPD started at around 18 weeks (i really cant remember now lol) and i went from cruthces to wheelchair, and just avoided the morphine thing and was induced at 37weeks!! i think your nuts going for another one after all of that, im crtainly not doing it again, but its easy for me to say when its my third.
good luck with holding off the inevitable for as long as possible, i understand the logic, its going to get worse, but we can at least try and get it to take longer getting worse.

ive mainly been out and about but resting, DH had his appt today, just a chat with the surgeon to discuss the biopsy procedure, as its a general anaesthetic thing, but a day case thank goodness.
calling the physio tommorrow, hoping for some good advice and help, and not just, dont push yourself too much but dont do nothing...cause im already trying that tactic!!

xMrsSx · 08/06/2010 23:16

kt when is the biopsy? And good luck with speaking to the physio.... FINALLY!!

And welcome bearbear,.. woo hoo, another person who isn't on the verge of popping!! I like your non-defeatist attitude! We should have a mantra on here... "SPD will not break me!!"

ktwiltshire · 09/06/2010 08:51

mrsS going to be in 4-6weeks, theres no rush on it as they dont suspect cancer, well the liklihood is very small even given DHs history, like i said we could have done a wait and see and have another scan in a few months, but we are both very impatient!! calling up the physio in a few hours.

im exhausted at the moment, which doesnt make sense to me as DH is doing all the nights for me (bless him, hes brilliant), i should be more awake!!!

hope everyones ok out there, not too much pain or frustration

xMrsSx · 09/06/2010 09:24

Yeah but kt you are probably just catchin up on all the sleep you have missed out on over the last few months! Your body is bound to need more time to readjust.

Glad they dont seem to be worried about your DH. I understand your need to know though, why a 4-6 week wait though? Even though they aren't worried about it, still suprised.

Migraine appears to have finally gone so going to use the day to write essay/read long MN threads!! Then seeing Derren Brown tonight - IF I can manage to sit in a theatre chair for all that time?!!?

LooL00 · 09/06/2010 09:51

Wooo WHooooooooWOOOOOOOOOOO! Well done whimsi! Hope you're feeling ok and that ds3 is letting you get some sleep. Lie down as much as you can and those stitches won't bother you for long.

Leoni what about you? Your turn next and then I'll get on with it.

Welcome bear, did you get any manipulaion by a physio or osteo last time? Maybe if you can get straightened out often enough it might keep the pain down a bit. I've been shoved about by the nhs physio a few times(from about 20 weeks) and it makes a big difference for a week or two.But only if I also rest a lot.

Just sleep kt you will catch up eventually! After i had dc1 I would be able to fall asleep anytime of the day if there was nothing else to do (long labour) and after about 2 weeks i realised i was getting better as I could actually sit down and do nothing without falling asleep.

Glad you've got over your migraine mrsS and don't forget to take a cushion to the theatre
in case you get a crappy worn out seat.

I've had nough and so has my pelvic floor, the physio says it's the only thing holdin me together at this stage and since there's a baby sitting on it it HURTS by the end of the day. The mw is coming round tomorrow, I wonder if she'll refuse to do a homebirth because we havn't vacuumed for 3 weeks?Or maybe she'll refuse if i can't walk because I've been vacuuming? DH is busy tonight so I think he'll have to do a quick sweep round.

ktwiltshire · 09/06/2010 10:34

mrsS i think its just how long until theres a space really, and with no urgency (i.e. no worry of cancer) its just when the next available appt is i think. not sure about the waiting time as its going to be done in a different NHS trust to where i work.
glad the migraine has gone, i hope you can manage to sit long enough, i struggled through a billy connolly gig right at the beginning when my SPD started up!

looloo probably, im just frustrated, i want to be able to do more, now!! especially since i have a lot of movement back (im not normal by any means, but ive got a lot back) i just want to be able to use it, everything is exhausting me.

letting DH sleep this morning, as hes still doing the night shift and he had a bad night as DD was awake a lot! got the kids to school, now just going to grab some rest myself.
Spoke to the physio department, have an appointment in the morning to see the perinatal physio. nervous as she wasnt much help the only time before i saw her. hopefully she will be more help now we're the other side of this

lovesaruby · 09/06/2010 13:23

Hello ladies, just after a bit of advice really. Currently 30 weeks, been suffering since wk 25 and saw physio Monday for the first time. He pulled me about a bit which was uncomfortable at the time but not more than I assumed it would be. Gave me some stretches to try and told me to come back in a fortnight. Woke up yesterday in absoloute bloody agony - it was painful before but managable but now I can barely walk and am getting shooting pains down my right leg when I put weight on it. Dh is self-employed so cant take time off as we cant afford it so Im having to do the school and nursery runs still. I was in so much pain this morning when I dropped dd2 off at nursery that I cried when one of the staff members asked if I was okay - mortified! Is it normal to feel worse after seeing the physio or has he done some more damage to me? I feel reluctant to go back in two weeks as he hasnt helped me one little bit!

LooL00 · 09/06/2010 13:35

Hi lovesaruby what did the physio actually do? i'm always saying the physio shoves me about but actually she gets me to push against her. And what are these stretches?Sorry you're feeling so bad, try to get some rest.

Hi kt if your physio doesn't suggest some sort of manipulation or check if you need it then you must ask her when this is going to happen. After I had dc2 I needed my pelvis straightening and she did it partly by doing it herself and partly by giving me exercises where I had to see if one leg seemed heavier than the other when lying down and then pulling against a towel (can't remember quite how this workd) but i was 4months postnatal when I did that.

ktwiltshire · 09/06/2010 19:39

lovesaruby i know my mum is always in more pain after seeing the physio, but she doesnt go for SPD, but i would understand that some more pain than your normal level would be right after them moving you around. if your really worried call up the physio and ask what they would expect to be normal.

im going to ask about the manipulation, but my GP suggested that i might have a trapped nerve leftover from it all (DD3 had got her elbow on my hip for about a week - her head was kinda attached to her head with the cord!), so im going to mention that to the physio aswell.

hope everyone is doing ok, its nice to see ppl on the sofa, but i hate that its only because were in pain!

LooL00 · 10/06/2010 11:07

Yes you're right kt every time someone new arrives on the sofa i start by thinking 'how nice another new one ' and then I get my spd fury going and start resenting the fact that there are SO MANY of us and there don't seem to be any standards for treatment or even basic knowledge by GPs and MWs.

Had the mw round this morning and signed the papers for a homebirth. I've got to see the consultant on monday about being over 40 and induction at 40 weeks but the mw says i don't have to be induced if I don't want to.I think I'll leave that one open as who knows what I'll want in 4 weeks time.

36 weeks today!! DH is convinced this one will turn up early, but I think he's just hoping to get some of the afternoon football in whilst on paternity leave.

lovesaruby · 10/06/2010 11:42

Thanks for the responses - I think Im going to call the physio - I did assume I might be a bit sore after seeing him but seriously am beside myself right now! I did nothing yesterday, rested up after the school runs and did the excercises as instructed but feel just as bad today. Just been to get some shopping in and lent on the trolley for support, bumped into a friend and promptly burst into tears again when she offered to pack and carry for me and brought me some flowers! Supposed to be going on holiday next week and am dreading it now

LeoniPoni · 10/06/2010 12:43

Hi everyone! Its been a few days and I've missed so much!

Whimsi Yaaaaay! I'm so pleased for you. 8lbs13, whew a good chunky little thing! Hope you carry on feeling better and better.

LooL00 Yeah I'm 38+6 today! One week til due date. I can't wait to be a mum, being pregnant has not suited me! And you're not far behind! Especially if baby does come early.

Kt Oh I do hope you improve soon! You've done your time, paid your dues, it's surely time for you to be comfortable and blissed out with your new baby!

MrsS Glad your migraine has buggered off, hope it stays away and lets you do your essay! Hope you enjoyed Derren. Saw him a couple of years ago and he was fantastic, he put on a brilliant show!

Lovesaruby Hello! Welcome! I agree with the others, its lovely to come across others who know how I feel but I do feel so bad for everyone! Its so horrid.

And I don't know about anyone else but I feel like a bit of a failure. Like my body was supposed to be made to do this! And it's as if my body is breaking under the strain instead of rising to the occasion!

Oh dear, I have gone very whiney. I hope it's not too much longer, otherwise DF might have enough of my moaning and run away!

ktwiltshire · 10/06/2010 13:10

looloo i know how you feel, i thought i could wait till 39 weeks for the csection, but i couldnt in the end! just take it as it comes, and dont be afraid to ask for the induction if it gets too much

lovesaruby doing things with a trolley isnt actually a good idea with SPD...not entirely sure why but it always made things kill for me. call your physio sooner rather than later, maybe before the holiday just incase theres anything they can do, even if its just more painrelief from the dr.

leoni i feel the exact same way, i hate that my body has failed me on such a basic female task. whine all you want, we all understand how you feel, we really do.

saw the physio this morning, ive been given some exercises to do, and now have a tubigrip support to wear. she gave me the leaflet for post baby and csection stuff and told me which ones i should be doing, and which ones to avoid for the best for my hips. going back to see her in 3 weeks to see where im at in terms of movement. she did tell me though that i shouldnt be expecting so much of myself, dont try and be supermum and all that. also amusingly that i shouldnt do anything which involves jerking movements if i can, from walking on uneven pavements (there are some horrible ones in my town) to sex lol!

emmadrew · 10/06/2010 17:24

So nice to hear there's a gaggle of other SPD/PGP mums! (altho of course I'd rather there wasn't as then we wouldn't be suffering/have suffered this horrible condition.

I'm just getting over SPD after the birth of my first child. Ended up on crutches and then bed bound before being given a c section at 39 weeks (which I had to fight like hell for, the consultants basically told me to stop moaning, even though I could barely walk into the appointments!)

Would love to have another child, but dread the thought of getting SPD again.

The NHS really, really needs to wake up and take this condition seriously. We had to take on full time help after our son was born and i was still on crutches and so couldn't carry or move him. There was no NHS help available, and the doctors and consultants I saw during my pregnancy were ill informed and basically did nothing!

LooL00 · 10/06/2010 19:20

Hi everyone.
Not long to go now Leoni. Whining is ok at 38 weeks, your DF will forget about it once the babe and he are watching the world cup together.

SPD/PGP (call it what you like it still bloody hurts) isn't really our bodies breaking under the strain of pg, it's our bodies going a bit too far in preparing for birth and making everyhting just way too wobbly.

Hi emmadrew, I had SPD with DC1 but not so bad with DC2. When I had DC2 I could do stuff like sit on other peoples sofas and walk on the grass, but just not push the pushchair 2 miles. Now on DC3 and spd the worst ever. I had postnatal physio after DC2 as things didn't just go back, the physio was really straightforward and worked pretty quickly.

beccas · 10/06/2010 19:49

Lovesaruby
If you are flying then call airport assistance and book a wheelchair with a man to push it. You dont need doctors notes or anything, just tell them you are preggers with SPD.

I did this at 28 weeks, felt like a complete plum, but seriously would not have managed standing for so long in shuffling queue's. Also, gets you on plane first, but off last. Tho by time we made it to baggage reclaim, cases still hadnt arrived.

Hello to everyone else, love the sofa, reading with interest!
SPD since 9 weeks, 2nd pregnancy, had it in first too, but totally diff symptoms this time. Luckily DH is a physio tho he wont touch womens stuff as he didn't do that particular rotation. But at least he listens and got me a cleaner!
Got C Sect a week today as baby is footling breech! Think this might be why my symptoms are different.
But my hips are trashed from running, and previous labour. Ho hum.
