I am suffering SPD (for the second time) and just need to vent without driving everyone else on my pregnancy thread mental. Not that they aren't supportive but I still have 20 weeks to go and I don't want to ruin their pregnancies by talking about mine!

Please come and join me so I don't feel so alone, and feel free to share tips if you have any....

mama2b5 i totally agree and am so grateful to have number 2 on the way after years of trying and two miscarriages. If only men could take some of the agony...!!!!

has anyone got one of those pregnancy long pillows? i am currently using just a normal pillow between my legs which is helping, but didnt know if there were any out there that were really good. So many on the market and quite variable in price.

morethemerrier- a cracking pubic bone sounds awfully painful

Sorry to hear so many of you are suffering, it trully is horrible

Just quickly - am seeing the consultant tomorrow. Do you think they would allow me to request induction on my due date if I haven't had him before? I don't think I could cope with this longer than I have to... Plus he'd be bigger by then, they're not keen to give me a CS because of my age, so the smaller the better, please!! Is that a reasonable request?

Cracking pubic bone? Euw. I get a lot of cracking noises too. Have also pretty much given up sex too- not worth the agony [poor DH]

Bellasmummy- are you sure we aren't the same person! DD two weeks older than yours, also 2 mc ad lots of effort to have these b abies....but that's off the subject!

Erika- it is more than reasonable. Fight your corner. Point out the kind of pain you are in, that it's having a detrimental impact on your life. Also recommend crying and begging!!! Let us know how it goes.

Am good at the crying and begging - might play the ME and BPD card as well if needs must I just really don't think I can do this for much longer. I have it a lot better than other people seem to, but combined with the other pains its really getting very difficult, and I seem to be in tears from the pain rather often now. I'm happy to try and make it to my due date, knowing that's when he'd be perfectly safe, but I really don't think I can manage any time after that.

Morning all - and a big wave to Mama2b5 as we're on the same ante-natal thread!

Oh dear, had a horrid weekend and this is truly getting worse hour by hour, day by day. My next physio appt is not for 2 weeks after a manipulation last week, but think I need to phone and beg and plead to be seen weekly plus think I really need crutches now

I've had SPD from about 20 weeks but have found wearing a support belt really useful (really noticing if I didn't wear it for a couple of hours), and the advice from the physio on how to turn over in bed etc. (keep shoulder and hips in line - don't twist at waist, engage pelvic floor muscles at the same time) so have managed quite well so far. I am now 40 weeks + 9 days however and it is getting worse as the head is engaging. I am fairly immobile now - and am often in tears after any walking of any distance. I wish I had pushed for an early induction. I never thought that I would still be pregnant at this point. I'm now booked in for an induction on Friday so there is an end in sight.
I can't believe that I was horse riding up until 38 weeks during my first pregnancy!

Anyone have any idea whether cycling makes SPD worse?

I'm on 3rd pregnancy and at 26 wks my hip has really started hurting when walking (is that SPD if there's no other pain?).

I can't figure out if cycling makes it worse or not but it seems a shame to drive to work when it actually takes longer than the 10 minute cycle. (perhaps I should stop racing people up hills though).

Any advice most appreciated!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 19/10/2009 13:13

Cycling? I just cant imagine doing that with SPD tbh - in fact, I cant imagine doing v much at all at the moment. Am sure if you have SPD, however, that cycling would definitely make it worse.....

How do you know if you have the onset of early spd?

I had an achy period type pain on my left side when I turned onto it last night which moved into lower back. It;s not too bad if I don't lie directly on it but if I do I certainly know about it?

1mum1- sounds more like sciatica to me. If in doubt see your GP.

Bloody doctor pushed so hard on my pelvis I cried Was having BHs so instead of waiting for it to ease off he insisted on letting the medical student try to work out the lay, then having a go himself. sob

But good news was he totally agreed with not wanting to go over due - offered to induce me early if it gets any worse

Good news ErikaMaye re induction, but feel awful for you re the doctor and student

Can you believe (well I'm sure you all probably can) that the women's health physio at my hospital, which is a fairly major hospital btw; only works on a Wednesday and other days of the week works at a sister hospital, which I can't get to due to the SPD. So, appts only available on a Wednesday and can't fit me in before 4 Nov. After the manipulation last week, yesterday, my pelvis jolted back up again so was truly truly in tears and agony. Finally relented and took co-dydramol as at that point, couldn't sit, couldnt stand, couldn't lie, couldn't be on all fours - just did not know what to do with myself. That kicked in soon enough which was great but then had to wake DH in middle of night to go and get me some more!!! Then, lo and behold, once painkillers kicked in, managed to have a good old stretch whilst half asleep and clicked and shunted my pelvis back into its right position again. Heard several clicks and is soooooo much easier again this morning. Wonder how many hours it will last for?

However, DH doing his nut and saying I am completely incapacitated (to get around house I am literally clinging onto the walls as I walk and have to get doctors/hospital to do something or pay for a private physio!

Today, I see if I can take on the NHS or else dip into my own pocket (ouch).

Too many weeks left of this pg ....

Ugh that sounds horrible I hope the easing off stays that way, poor thing.

If its any consolation, the physio I saw gave me the crutches and a belt, and sent me on my merry way. Helpful, that. And the hours are about the same.

hey guys just wondered if you guys had any tips i had my 16 week midwife appt this morning. And was diagnosed with SPD my midwife is referring me to physio and said to expect a letter in a month or so with an appt but to be honest this seems like ages and ages away but they are very busy.

I dont want to whine but i cant get out of bed in the morning and am clinging onto walls most of the day to get around and have ended up crying in pain a few times already...i know i cant expect to get immediate treatment but i dont know what else to do?

The silk pjs are a godsend and being glued to my hot water bottle and 5 baths a day seems to help but i feel like a cripple

has anyone got any other ideas? Or the best way to get a nearer appt?

Thanks guys

Welcome newbies, though sad to see so many of yu, naturally.

Anxious. should try getting the number for the physio department and calling them directly. Explain that the referral is en route and the pain you are in etc. Either they will already have your paperwork and try to get you sorted, r they will remember you (esp. if you call regularly) when it does come and hurry things up then.

Herbie- so glad you have the experience for us, but sad that you've had the experience for you iyswim. Do hope the fusing and pinning has helped at last....

Whoever suggested satin pj bums is a genius. Much easier to turn in that flannelette

Had to spend a lot of yesterday on my feet so can barely walk today. Housebound. What fun. Might look online at rutches......and great news CTOAFN about your crutches.
