claremu · 04/09/2008 19:16

I'm 40+5 today so take heart lollipop and sunflower. Managed to go for a swim today which made me feel like I'd done something with the day, but other than that I feel like I'm on a rubbish waiting room at a train station, waiting for a delayed train...
you can't leave the platform because then you will miss it, but you don't know how long you will be waiting (the all day long torrential rain adds to the experience)
I thought 'it's bound to be this week sometime', cos I read a statistic about only 15% going beyond 41 weeks, but the more posts I see hear the more I doubt that statistic!

claremu · 04/09/2008 19:17

should have been 'here' not hear

bootus · 04/09/2008 21:04

Hiya guys, jsut wanted to let you know baby bootus was born on 1st Sep at 14.40, a perfect, if hefty, little boy at 9lb 4oz!!! Very hard and didn't exactly go to plan, but worth every single miserable pregnant moment . I know how hard waiting is but when it happens it'll all be forgotten...I promise. Hood luck.

bootus · 04/09/2008 21:10

Er GOOD luck.

sunflower78 · 04/09/2008 23:02

bootus - congratulations!!! and "little"?!?! enjoy every moment!

lollipopmother · 05/09/2008 14:12

CONGRATS Bootus! I wouldn't class 9lb as little either, haha, did you take newborn stuff to the hospital or 0-3m?!

bootus · 05/09/2008 20:48

Luckily I had 2 babygros that were 0-3 months, midwife just laughed at the newborn stuff!!! Couldnt believe it when we were told weight, so pleased I managed it without resorting to c-section....xx

MiniMarmite · 06/09/2008 19:23

Bootus, many congratulations and well done ...we thought we had a similar babygrow issue with miniminimarmite but later realised (next day when we'd actually had some sleep) that it was just my Mum trying to do the poppers up wrong!

Lollipop - you must be bored - sweat stain removal ...

lollipopmother · 07/09/2008 17:37

Hey, I might have been bored, but at least I directed my attention towards something worthy....sort of!

rainrain · 11/09/2008 16:29

Anyone still hanging around here? 38 weeks today. 2, maybe 3.5 weeks to go and it seems like an ETERNITY!!!!!!!

aurorec · 11/09/2008 16:34

41+1 today....
I posted a fed up message yesterday, the doctor examined me a week ago, told me I was 3 cms dilated and the head was partially engaged.

He scheduled another membrane sweep for tomorrow but told me it was unlikely I would still be pregnant then, and guess what....

My mother's been here for nearly 2 weeks now (I have a toddler as well) I think DH is slowly losing his mind! - and me with it cos apart from helping out with DD she's not doing any cooking so I have twice as much to do.

lollipopmother · 11/09/2008 18:35

I'm here - 41 weeks exactly, so just a day behind you Aurorec. Had a great day yesterday when a stand-in MW came to give me a sweep. First of all she said she couldn't be 100% sure the baby wasn't breach (she changed her mind just as I was about to knock her out!) and then told me that my cervix was posterior and long, but a little soft, and that she couldn't do a sweep because she couldn't get in there. She then capped it all off by saying that the baby was 3/5 palpable, when she had been fully engaged the week before!

Anyway, ended up at the hospital because she also thought it was possible my waters were leaking, so had another MW with her hands up my fanjo, who said she didn't know what the other MW was talking about because she had no trouble putting her fingers into my cervix (yes, well I knew that, because I was trying to scrape myself off the ceiling at that point!!) because I was 2cm dilated. Anyway, I never did get a sweep, but I did get a scan to confirm that baby was head down, and I was also told my waters were fine.

It wasn't until I woke up this morning that I realised they had booked me in for an induction on Wed, but hadn't given me a date for a sweep, which I thought was a bit off seeing as I was expecting to get one yesterday! Anyway, sweep now booked for the weekend, joy joy joy!

lollipopmother · 11/09/2008 18:36

Aurorec - I'm trying to take comfort in the fact that I'm walking around 2cm dilated whilst having no pain or contractions. The fact that you are 3cm and with no pain must be good surely?! Maybe we should both aim to get to 6cm before feeling anything!

aurorec · 11/09/2008 20:30

Ouch lollipop that sounds painful! Not to mention incredibly frustrating.

Actually my sweep last week was remarkably nice. I saw a male doctor and he had the gentlest hands ever. I'm normally completely squeamish and can't bear anything down there (even after a baby that nearly came out that way) but he was v good.
The only annoyance was that he was convinced the baby would be out v soon and this was last week.

Anyway I have my 2nd sweep tomorrow morning, but today on/off have had mildish contractions (nothing completely painful) and I'm now finding walking v uncomfortable, so I'm hoping something will happen tonight, otherwise the trip to the hospital tomorrow via public transport will be a bit difficult.

I'm a bit concerned though as we live quite far from the hospital, the doctor told me (as it's about a half hour drive) that I should call when contractions get to 20mns (dues to prior labour), I called a few days ago with a false alarm and told the MWs about that, they told me not to even bother calling and wait till it was no more than 10mns before picking up the phone.

I don't want to give birth in my car, I think I'll just have to lie!

MrsTittleMouse · 11/09/2008 20:39

Just caught up with this. Congratulations bootus!

I am now 34+6, but DB2 is really pushing down on my cervix. I am so convinced that this baby is going to be early that I'm bound to be late! But I keep telling myself that it's a min of 2 weeks (and 1 day) and a max of 7 weeks. Seven weeks seems like an eternity...

Good luck to all those at 41 weeks plus.

lollipopmother · 12/09/2008 07:01

Aurorec - How are you today, are you still here?

claremu · 12/09/2008 16:39

Well done Lollipop' and Aurorec, I think that's great that you are dilated and comfortable - keep up the good work I guess!

I'm 42 weeks tomorrow - do I win any prizes yet? I think I deserve something...
Haven't seen midwife since 37 weeks as she is a bit crap, but a community MW is coming over sometime tomorrow to check heart rate etc. Got Extras out on DVD to tide me over the weekend if he/she still not moving..

lollipopmother · 12/09/2008 17:27

Claremu - I am amazed at your dedication! Are you doing expectant management?

claremu · 13/09/2008 15:27

I suppose that's what its' called - my midwife came round this morning and I refused a sweep and an induction, but I have to now go the hospital for daily monitoring. She did try and scare me into induction, but couldn't back it up with any stat's/ evidence re placenta deterioration.

She also wants a doctor to 'talk to me' tomorrow' so I'm mentally preparing for that - have managed to stay relaxed so far so would rather not be in a hospital (have been doing hypnobirthing)

I might create another post to get some views of midwives who have delivered post term babies..

aurorec · 13/09/2008 23:06

Just come home with baby! ended up having a 4 hour natural delivery- the 2nd part without question the most painful two hours of my life...
Had a bad internal tear and ended up being stitched up for about 45 mns after delivery, which felt worse than the birth.
DS is 8.5 pounds 22 inches and doing great! I am so relieved....

And for anyone giving birth at St Thomas in London- GREAT care. And they bring you toast and tea afterwards, even at 4 in the morning.

claremu · 14/09/2008 22:41

Oh my god congratulatiions!!
Well bloody done 4 hours is amazing, baby sounds very healthy.

bootus · 15/09/2008 11:10

Congrats auorec, fantastic news, and 4 hours is fab!!! I'm 2 weeks into motherhood today....biggest,hugest learning curve of my life but, how utterly mind blowing!!! DP has been amazing and after a 30 hour full blown labour I HAVE needed a lot of help, but am now sitting without rubber ring and slowly getting better. I'm keeping an eye on this thread cos it kept me sane in those last horrid few days, good luck to everyone.I promise it's totally worth it.

rainrain · 15/09/2008 18:33

Congrats Auorec!! Yay

MiniMarmite · 22/09/2008 13:17

Can't believe my Miniminimarmite is now 4 weeks old...I've been away for a bit, up to my armpits in nappies!

Well done everyone who has given birth and hang on in there those of you who are still waiting xxx
