min912 - good luck for stretch and sweep.

mummy2bsoon · 25/07/2008 12:39

hmm....

i dunno wat to do with myself..

min912 · 25/07/2008 16:37

Well she could stretch but not sweep - baby's head and therefore membranes were just out of reach. So she said come back for another go on Monday.

Definitely less uncomfy than a smear test, also better than when they broke my waters for me with DS, worst part was when she was talking to me mid-procedure. I just couldn't make eye contact, it just seemed wrong!!

So we'll see... think the odds are 50%...

Sophrosyne1 · 26/07/2008 10:38

40+8 here, due to be induced on Tuesday but am getting really fed up, it is way too hot out today!

Squarah · 26/07/2008 12:48

40+2, had s+s 2 days ago - I was 1-2cm and fully effaced but still baby's head q.high and cervix posterior so mixed signs but she could feel the membranes etc. I've been booked for an induction on the 6th but the MW doesn't think I'll need it.

The s+s hasn't done anything other than make me have some mild bleeding and niggles which then went so am back to being puffy and hot! At least things looked reasonably favourable so not feeling too down about it - trying to take it one day at a time and cook a lot. Couldn't give a monkeys about the appearance of the house!

Best friend just had her baby in a pool in mexico - am jealous!

mummy2bsoon · 26/07/2008 13:55

ahhh my contractiosn are all over the place, make no sense, range from 12 mins to 4 mins apart....

gettin painful, didnt sleep all night....

Squarah · 26/07/2008 15:41

Ooh mummy2bsoon sounds like it's very soon! How exciting - I hope the contractions sort themselves out to be a bit more organised for you! Good luck and may the force be with you!!

Squarah · 28/07/2008 05:38

Think it might have started here. I'm 40+4 today. Getting strange rummagey pains which felt like they were in my cervix last night from 8ish which got worse and more frequent but okay for sleeping through. Hard enough when it's as roasting as now - dripping with sweat!

I woke 45mins ago and am having bad period-type pains and just trying to time them using that contraction-master thingy but finding it hard to know when they end...

Exciting but hope it cools down

The next question is when to wake DH?

electricluluarella · 28/07/2008 05:48

potter round for a bit, let DH sleep for a bit! try a bath? if the pains go off, then you are not in labour properly yet... eat & drink, wee and poo, potter round,Marslady always recommneds sorting photo albums and watching a good comedy, i suggest sex and nipple stim your body will soon let you know when you need ot pay attention! is this your first?

Squarah · 28/07/2008 07:03

yup 1st - had a bath - still coming in waves and stronger - had marmite toast and tried to watch series finale of House and too difficult. Am back downstairs to time the waves now and will wake DH after that I think. This is very surreal!

electricluluarella · 28/07/2008 07:12

don;t worry too much about timing them,it is the length that is important too, a good minute or so

also, if they get stronger and closer to gether and get into a pattern, that is usually a good sign, also, if they don;t die off if you move around etc..

try to rest if you still can, you might have a long day!

once you need to go into yourself, and close your eyes, and concentrate and can;t update Mumsnet, it is usually a sgin things are progressing!

Rory arrived at 1.45 on Saturday. 7lb 60z.

Very tired but very happy here. Brief story - went for induction on Sat morning - only needed prostaglandin pessary and went from uneffaced unfavourable cervix to baby born in 2 hours! He surprised us all. I nearly had him in the antenatal ward! It was very very fast and very very 'intense'. Got to labour room - they couldn't even examine me -my waters broke and I said 'I need to push' and he was born 20 minutes later. No stitches either. Can't believe it!

He is absolutely gorgeous and I am in love.

Good luck to everyone else. They do all come in the end!

electricluluarella · 28/07/2008 09:46

welcome rory! glad it went well for you x

Sophrosyne1 · 28/07/2008 11:37

Congratulations EEC, hope my induction goes as quick!

twelveyeargap · 28/07/2008 13:36

40+1 today. Pregnancy #3, DS #1. Can I come in please? DD2 was 12 days late. I may be here for the long haul...

Did anyone mention the heat already today?

Squarah · 03/08/2008 21:41

Well it happened! Samuel Oliver was born on 29th July 03.51 hrs at 40+5, weighing 8lb8oz.

Short version - initially 4cm at hospital then into water and gas and air - only went to 5cm and head high despite 8 hours and changing position. Sadly Sammy also changed position and became face up. Gave me syntocinon drip and epidural and made it to fully dilated but 90mins of good pushing had no effect in budging his head down so off to theatre for trial of forceps....

Further pushing (my insistance) led nowhere and he was too high for the forceps so emergency section in the end. Bit dramatic as I could feel some of the section as it was epidural rather than spinal but all over and done with and I've finally got my gorgeous boy home and can't believe how much I love him And the hospital staff were all amazing - turns out he lifted his head up rather than chin tucked in so there was no way on earth he was getting out the normal route. Also much bigger than expected despite scan!

Now having fun with feeding and nappies... Good luck to all the un-popped and I hope you're feeling relieved about the cooler weather.

mummy2bsoon · 04/08/2008 14:32

i had my baby on the 27 july, natural labour, only gas and air for 5 mins, labour started friday 4am, ended sunday 5pm! LONG ONE!!!! but i loved it,wasnt to painful, and mos tof all i got the birth i wanted, and a beautiful baby gal!!!!

i had amazing amazing midwives!!!!!!!!!!

Sophrosyne1 · 07/08/2008 08:04

Hey All,

Well, my baby girl couldn't quite wait for the induction (we were due at the hospital at 10.30 am on the 29th) and was born at 3.58 on July 29th after a 3 hour labour (raspberry leaf tea, anyone?). Started feeling contractions at about 1 ish, used TENS machine but could only cope at home 'til 2. Arrived at hospital 5cm dilated and gave birth to baby Hannah Joy (8 pounds 6 ozs) in the pool using gas and air. Unfortunately, partially because of how quick the labour was, H developed a little bit of a chest infection and was admitted to neo-natal unit later on that day. However, after a week in the hospital we are now home and all is well.
Good luck all.
