second (and subsequent) babies don't always engage before labour.

Sometimes they engage then disengage.

That doesn't mean anything. Trust me. This I know.

FrannyandZooey · 14/07/2008 19:18

pop in and OUT?
this is terrible news

ds has just had a long chat with the baby telling it to come out
he also sang part of "Jingle Bells" and says it will come out now to hear the rest of the song

OP posts:
fryalot · 14/07/2008 19:19

or it will stay in till Christmas

NotQuiteCockney · 14/07/2008 19:20

Your DS is as canny as ever.

Can we come visit for a day, sometime? Two weeks from now, we have two weeks at home, basically, me and the boys. You'll have a baby by then, I'm pretty sure.

FabioUnblogged · 14/07/2008 19:20

NO NO NO NO!
Baby will wait for Christmas!

Quick, get him to sing this

It's imperative he sings appropriate songs.

NotQuiteCockney · 14/07/2008 19:21

Also, come express opinions about my hair. [self-centred] [trivial]

sweetkitty · 14/07/2008 19:27

DD2 never engaged, even at 10cms dilated her head was still bobbing about, MWs had to break my waters and whoosh she was out in 10 minutes so never fear. She was 2 1/2 hours start to finish Franny so it may have take her a while to come but once she decided she was, she didn't hang about. Never had a tear or anything and she was 9lbs 3ozs.

This one bounces in and out as well.

FrannyandZooey · 14/07/2008 19:32

NQC in theory yes but can I wait and see and not say a definite yes atm? we may well still be in the middle of family visits etc with a v small baby, I may be still dicey after the birth (if there ever is a birth), that kind of thing
is that ok?

I don;t want my waters broken

In terms of intervention, my induction had a positive outcome. I had a sweep at 9 or 10 days over - it was posterior and she tried to bring it forward - it did nothing, no spotting, no show, even after sex, no nothing. I went in to be induced in the afternoon at 13 days overdue. Had one prostin pessary and things started to happen within a couple of hours. I didn't cope too well with the contractions in the early stages so had pethidine (but have nothing to compare it to so don't know if they were worse than they would have been with spontaneous labour). Once the pethidine wore off I was fully dilated so too late for an epidural. The pushing stage was much more bearable in terms of pain and although it went on for a while, there was no need for forceps or anything. I know induction is not ideally what you want, but it doesn't necessarily mean intervention

NotQuiteCockney · 14/07/2008 19:34

Of course!

No, wait, we must schedule a visit now, and hold to it, come hell or high water. I am your top priority, dammit!

I think our plans for those two weeks are going to be pretty floaty, anyway, we might run off to Reading for a few days or something, dunno.

lulumama · 14/07/2008 19:35

franny, i am sorry your cervix is misbehaving. in a multip, it can change very quickly as it effaces and dilates at the same time.

so, lots more sex and baths and stuff. have a talk to your baby and ask him/her what is holding him back

have a good scream ,cry and rant. and then get an early night

xxxxxxxxxxxxx

FrannyandZooey · 14/07/2008 19:36

LOL
can you tell I am panicking about all the rellies visiting and so on
I hate all that crap

anyway I went to click on your hair thread and clicked on Fabio's Diana Ross link instead, which confused me mightily for a while

Tatties thank you, I knew I was generalising but it is nice to hear good stories

FrannyandZooey · 14/07/2008 19:37

lulu I think the threat of hearing the rest of Jingle bells could be holding it back

sweetkitty · 14/07/2008 20:17

F&Z - I was begging to have my waters broken at 10cms so glad I did she swam out.

lulumama - surely if I have had 2 spontaneous labours in less than 4 years then I can do it again and won't need an induction, my body must know what it's doing by now???

Loads of vaginal discharge tonight (sorry TMI) and my pelvis feels like it is falling apart, was yelping going up the stairs to put the DDs to bed.

springerspaniel · 14/07/2008 20:40

F&Z - glad I'm not the only one that is panicking about the relatives visiting. I don't mind some of the younger ones - e.g. my brothers.

It's the old ones that pss me off. They just sit there, spouting crap advice and expect you to make tea and sandwiches. All the time, I sit there (usually on the bstard floor because they've nicked all the seats even though I've just bl**dy given birth) and think "GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT."

grr

Nothing on tv. Must go and have bath to pluck up courage for sex. As long as I don't catch a glimpse of myself naked, I might manage to go through with it.

ponto · 14/07/2008 22:15

I am here for a whinge - was due on July 5th and I am fed up with waiting now. This is now my 6th week of being overdue , as dd1 was born 17 days late, and dd2 was 16 days late (both inductions when I finally lost my nerve about believing that my body would do it when it was ready). I am so glad that this will be my last pregnancy as I don't think I can cope with many more 'Still here then?' comments. Family and close friends know better than to make any such riduculous remarks as I am exceedingly grumpy when overdue.

Had a stretch and sweep last Thursday, had a show on Friday and got all excited but nothing since then. Seeing consultant tomorrow, can't decide whether to ask for induction asap as I'm heading that way anyway, or hold out for another week to allow this baby the same chance as I gave the others.

There, I feel better for moaning, I know you will all understand.

AggiePanther · 14/07/2008 22:44

Posted this on the July thread but I thought I'd update you lot too -

Am getting lots of 'pressure' below since my bath earlier so I'm hoping this LO is getting into position. I slipped getting out of the bath - not badly - I wasn't even standing - I was trying to stand and dropped onto my bum from about 20cm, but maybe it's been enough to knock him into place? Hope so...[crossing everything apart from legs]

sweetkitty · 14/07/2008 23:21

Another 2 babies born on the July thread and both due after me, am and

ponto - maybe you just cook them a bit longer than most, I know what you mean about moaning though you go ahead 2 overdue pregnancies means you are more than entitled.

aggie - fingers crossed we will have another announcement in the morning.

MamaG · 14/07/2008 23:24

I was induced with both my other two so I can't compare it to a "normal" birth

I can say however that it fucking hurt

With DD i had an epidural (my choice) after labouring for 21 hours, I was so tired I needed it.

With DS (second baby) I didn't have ANY pain relief - no time, he was v quick after sweep and I loathe gash & Air

MamaG · 14/07/2008 23:26

(meant to add - no forceps or anything with either).

With DD, I overheard MW say to the trainee MW, quietly "it won't be out by 9" after she'd cheerfully told me at 7.30am that it would be out by 9. THis was at about 8.30 and I thought "she fucking will" and she was

phoebebouffet · 15/07/2008 00:37

I know this is going back a few posts but what on earth is clary sage?

MollyCherry · 15/07/2008 00:46

Mama G - Better than my FIL who told be when I was nearly a week overdue to 'get a move on' and insisted on referring to my bump as James (our boys name) all the way through the pregnancy

In the end baby arrived 2 weeks late after 3 sweeps, induction and an emergency c-section

... oh, and she was a Sophie, as had been me and DH's gut feeling all along

FabioUnblogged · 15/07/2008 06:16

Ooh looky

FrannyandZooey · 15/07/2008 07:52

god I am so jealous and bitter I can hardly post on sweetkitty's thread
