Pregnancy after loss

Hi, I'm 4+4 after a loss at 6+5 in April. I don't want to join the 'due in January' thread yet as I joined the December one then had to bow out, but thought it might be nice to have a thread where anyone in a similar position could chat/vent? I can't see any recent similar threads, apols if I have missed.

I'm feeling a lot more nauseous than last time which I have read can be a positive sign, but obviously doesn't guarantee anything. Just trying to cling to any hope I can!

That's amazing that you're both past the 20 week mark now!

Hope everything is ok on your next scan too @ChasingRainbow5.

Everything is ok with me, 28 weeks now so made it to my 3rd trimester! All the attention is on my little boy as he started school this week though.

LPR16 · 03/09/2026 18:28

So pleased you’re scans have been ok@ChasingRainbow5and @Swissmeringuehave you found out the gender?

I’m 32 weeks today, coming around scarily quick too. I’ve requested an elective section due to some health issues and anxiety I have around birth with those. After a loss I don’t want to take any risks. I’ve got an appointment early October to get signed off for that & then hopefully set a date

ChasingRainbow5 · 03/09/2026 18:35

@ThatMintMember ahhh congratulations on third trimester!! How did your wee boy get on at school?

@LPR16 I found out through NIPT I’m having another boy 😊 Wow 32 weeks, getting close! Definitely do whatever feels best for you, I was never in doubt about requesting a section.

@Swissmeringue ah yay!! Really glad everything is looking good and we both get a bonus extra scan 😊 Have you already got the date for your section? I get mine a week or two before.

It's booked for the week commencing 11th Jan, but they won't give me an actual date until they do the scheduling a week or so before. I'm assuming you'll be the week before?

A girl for us! Found out a couple of weeks ago as DD and DS were desperate to know if the baby is a brother or sister. DS (4) is furious, I've had to promise him that when we get a dog it can be a boy. 🤣

LPR16 · 03/09/2026 20:35

@Swissmeringuebless you, sounds like someone was going to be disappointed either way 😂

I think they usually do a planned c section from week 39 unless there’s a reason to do it earlier but I may be wrong. I can’t wait to get my date booked in

All I know is from 39 weeks, so between 6-12 Jan minus the weekend days!

It's usually 39 weeks, both of my two were born at 39+1 so I'm expecting the same but I get that they find it easier to give a specific date closer to the time. And yep we were going to have someone disappointed either way, I think my brother eventually forgave me for being a girl after about 25 years, hopefully ds comes round faster than that!

Thank you 😊 he did great, day 3 today and I'm very proud of us all for getting him there on time and happy everyday this week!

Aww another little boy 💙 do you still have clothes and things from your son? I've been inundated with girl clothes from neighbours, relatives and friends plus got stuff from my son, going to have to be ruthless as I've got enough for about 10 babies!

ChasingRainbow5 · 04/09/2026 15:24

@ThatMintMember yay well done all of you! 👏🏼

Yes I do and my friend has given me loads her son has grown out of so I think I have more than I did first time round, also need to be ruthless! The only thing I really need to get is a bedside cot as I borrowed that last time.

Ah that's great then! Its certainly a lot cheaper the second time around haha.

Hey, how is everyone doing?

I had my 20 week scan today (I’m 21+1 but was away last week). All looking great except femurs are measuring short, so I’m back for a medical scan next week. The sonographer didn’t seem at all concerned (I suspect there may be something on my file about anxiety as she was SUPER nice and reassuring) so I’m just waiting patiently til next Friday 😅

I had my medical scan today, baby's femurs are still measuring small. I've been given the option of having amniocentesis or waiting for another growth scan in four weeks. The likelihood is that he's just dinky but given all of the stress and anxiety I'm leaning towards amniocentesis, despite the risk (0.5% of miscarriage). Long shot but has anyone had it, or know anyone who has?

SlightlyTerrifiedButPolite · 11/09/2026 16:06

Ah I’m sorry @ChasingRainbow5this sounds really stressful. Have they told you the exact measurements and how far behind he is? I haven’t had it and don’t know anyone who has either. It looks like there are quite a few Reddit threads with ladies sharing their amniocentesis experiences which may be worth looking at it

Sophie3003 · 11/09/2026 16:10

Sorry this may not be helpful but with the pregnancy for my youngest hers were so small that we were below the bottom of the chart they plot for you- I was briefly worried but nothing was mentioned. Have they explained what concerns they may have?

ChasingRainbow5 · 11/09/2026 16:32

@SlightlyTerrifiedButPolite his femurs are on the 2nd centile and everything else is 30-50. Below 3rd is an issue.

@Sophie3003 they’ve basically said it could indicate a genetic or chromosomal abnormality, early growth restriction or he could just be small. I’m 5’3 and no one in my family is particularly tall but I think I need to know for sure.

OP posts:
Sophie3003 · 11/09/2026 16:35

Just to reassure you we have similar measurements- good/bigger for the other ones and femurs so small they were not on the charts- as I say it wasn’t indicated as an issue to us but hope it reassures you that he could be dinky. My daughter was born a good size weight wise but she is such a dink now!

ChasingRainbow5 · 11/09/2026 16:59

Thanks @Sophie3003 that’s so good to hear!
