Creating this as a space to continue the Feb 2025 chat - quite frankly it's all starting to feel very, very real right now!

@SBelfast how are you doing? How's baby? I'm much better thanks for asking. Though baby Yuna might end up having some tests for long jaundice. It's lower than when she was born but still there. Nothing to be super worried about but you know.
Regarding hormones I'm sorry to hear it hit you so much. Hopefully, with proper help you'll be back to your old self. 😉😊

Morning everyone.

Day 1 of maternity leave for me and I'm spending it moving all the bedrooms round in time for the arrival hopefully in a couple of weeks.

Very nice chilled morning so far, so while the carpets being fitted taking my time in the gym which is nice.

Good luck to everyone having their babies this week 😍

Loving all the pictures over on Facebook

Just need to vent.

I'm 39 weeks this week, last week the midwife said they needed to see me this week again (as per my plan with the consultant) but there were no appointments. She said it was no problem though, to come in this morning first thing and they'd squeeze me in. Well, went in this morning and nobody was there, ended up speaking to the GP team and the midwife who arranged it is on Annual Leave today! 😡 so now waiting on someone giving me a call to say when they can see me this week.

So so frustrating, I just feel like the level of care in this pregnancy has been much worse than my last (I've had to go here there and everywhere for different appointments with different midwives, whereas last time I had one main midwife who took care of everything during my main midwife appointments).

And now I'm right at the end of my pregnancy, mean to be getting seen more frequently due to issues in my last birth and I feel like I've just been left and ignored.

Hi @Piluka glad to hear your feeling better 😊
I'm still varying between being OK and being down/anxious but just trying to take it one day at a time. We started Ruairí on an antacid prescription and will be a few days yet to see if that helps. Had started colief then stopped it as the reflux seemed worse than the trapped wind and I was worried the colief was making the reflux worse. Every nights been had bar 2 since we got him home. Last night definitely seemed like an upset stomach/trapped wind with lots of crying was awful...so wondering if I just start the colief again or hold my nerve and see if it starts being consistent and more obviously colic!
We are definitely in the newborn trenches, no newborn bubble here lol. At least he sleeps during the day a bit!
How is Yuna getting on? How's your recovery going?
Pretty much 100% we will be going for that blood test also, will find out todayxor Wed, his levels are going down but still a bit jaundice. My SIL is a GP and really didn't seem concerned, she said breastfeeding can prolong it apparently!

Hhdxx · 10/02/2025 12:06

Last day for me today! I can't believe it.
Got to go in tomorrow at 7.30am to finally meet my rainbow baby 🌈 after 6 and a half years of trying for a family, 1 neonatal loss and 9 early miscarriages.
Is it normal to be in denial about it 😳

TTCagain85 · 10/02/2025 16:28

@Hhdxx the way i found it after multiple losses, yes, whilst you got excited during pregnancy your past trauma meant you never truly believe that everything will work out. It's possible our mind is protecting us from further trauma. I felt disassociated going in for my section and still feel like I'm drifting along in a parallel world now she is here. Good luck tomorrow x

Hhdxx · 10/02/2025 16:33

@TTCagain85 thank you for your message. It's such a weird feeling isn't it. Xxx

Kumquat89 · 10/02/2025 17:31

@Hhdxx i hope you have a great experience tomorrow and that it is as stress-free as it can be! ❤️

ThisLimeDeer · 10/02/2025 17:37

@Hhdxx good luck tomorrow! I will be thinking of you as well so please give us an update as soon as you’re able to. After all you’ve been through I really really hope that tomorrow goes exactly to plan and the experience is everything you’ve hoped for. ❤️

@jaybeez I’m sorry they’re messing you about so late in your pregnancy! My experience with community midwives isn’t great either (but hospital midwives have been amazing). I just feel like not a single one listened to me or was bothered about anything I said. Their usual advice for the entire pregnancy was: ‘see your GP’ about most things I’ve asked about 🤣.
The last midwife I saw insisted on booking me an appointment for 18th February even though I told her I’d be having a c-section between 10th-14th Feb and so I won’t need it. Her response: ‘well if you don’t turn up we will know you’ve given birth’ - and this is how I believe their appointment times get wasted, they don’t listen….

Hopefully2ndtimemummy · 10/02/2025 18:08

Hi all, great seeing all the lovely baby updates.
got my call today to be at the hospital for midday tomorrow so hoping I’m not waiting too long to go down to theatre. Feeling excited to be at this point but v nervous about the surgery and just hoping it all goes ok. Also worrying about little one being ok without me.

Hopefully2ndtimemummy · 10/02/2025 18:09

Best of luck @Hhdxx ♥️

Onthedouble123 · 10/02/2025 19:17

Good luck @Hhdxx and @Hopefully2ndtimemummy! Hope you both have lovely calm experiences tomorrow. Looking forward to the lovely updates once you're able. Xx

ThisLimeDeer · 10/02/2025 19:29

@Hopefully2ndtimemummy good luck tomorrow ❤️ I hope it goes smoothly and please update as soon as you can.

SBelfast · 10/02/2025 19:49

Good luck @Hhdxx and @Hopefully2ndtimemummy hope everything goes smoothly for you both.

@Hhdxx I'm sure that's a very normal experience under your circumstances!!
I feel that way for sure, very surreal, and our baby was born 22nd Jan..! Just take care of yourself and take it one day at a time, you've had a very difficult journey. Xo

Totters123 · 10/02/2025 23:16

Hi all - due on 18th Feb (although by size and scan my records say 9th Feb) with my second. I am going INSANE with impatience, partly as I went on mat leave at 37 weeks so had two weeks of 'waiting' (now wondering if I should have stuck it out for another week but I was at the end of my tether tbf). Any advice on how to make the most of the pre baby mat leave please let me know!! We tried for a long time for this baby so im just desperate to meet him, though I know I should wish this restful time away (not that I get much rest with a 5 y/o, dog and weeing 4 times a night).

@SBelfast - just to say my first had terrible colic and a lot of crying in the night, Im sure youve been advised this but something that helped us was propping her cot up (the whole cot) with books at the head end. This way she wasnt lying flat, which can make reflux worse, but was still in a safe sleeping position. I totally feel your pain and sending lots of solidarity 🩷 it all gets better in time, I promise.

superj21 · 11/02/2025 07:55

Good luck @Hhdxx and @Hopefully2ndtimemummy hope your births go well today 💕

Despite some hopeful contractions on Sunday, these didn't turn into anything. Still had on and off cramps and backache but nothing progressing. 40+1 so officially in the overdue crew!

@Totters123 I don't have much advice but offering some solidarity! I'm due on the 20th, had my first official day of mat leave yesterday.

I've made myself a little to do list that I'm working through so things like last bits of baby laundry, repacking hospital bags, listening to some birth meditations. And just trying to enjoy this last bit of time off, feet up and watching TV/napping. I'm keeping up going to yoga a couple times a week, so that was yesterday and tonight at least.

I know what you mean though, I feel torn between wanting a bit of time to rest before the birth and newborn stage and wanting to meet him/not be very overdue!

@Hhdxx and @Hopefully2ndtimemummy thinking of you today, wishing you the best!!

@ThisLimeDeer that is such a shame about your experience with community midwives, sounds so annoying and like they're just sticking to an appointment script or something 😞 glad the hospital ones are better where you are. I've been lucky, the community midwives in my area have really been amazing. We just had one for our first in person appointment who seemed quite unbothered and wanting to go on lunch already, all the appointments were delayed that day because the computer system had gone down. But otherwise mine have been hugely helpful, great source of advice and reassurance, one showed me how to get colostrum the other day and they've been more proactive at managing my hypothyroidism in pregnancy than my GP has! They've chased up the GP to make sure my blood was getting checked earlier and told me the GP wasn't using the right scale for my thyroid as it should be different for each trimester, which I didn't know.

It's a shame it's such a postcode lottery isn't it!

@ridl14 thyroid in pregnancy is meant to be managed by obstetrics and midwives and not General practice.

it’s a huge bugbear of mine when midwives say ‘oh the gp isn’t doing it right’ - they shouldn’t be doing it in the first place!

ThisLimeDeer · 11/02/2025 19:12

…and this is why I don’t trust community midwives 🤣. I’m joking… or am I 👀.
How are you feeling about Thursday @UncharteredWaters ? I’m petrified of the c-section at this point 🤣. I even painted some walls today, trying to keep busy as much as possible.

Totters123 · 11/02/2025 21:52

Thanks @ridl14 - we just have to keep going I guess! Well done for starting your M/L that bit later, you'll be so grateful for it later ❤️ and great tip on meditations as well.

Sorry, looking for advice again, but been experiencing some insomnia on and off the last two weeks - tried lots of baths, lavender, down time, but my sleep pattern is off anyway because of not being at work. Anyone have any tips? Wasnt asleep til 5am last night 🫠

prizecow · 12/02/2025 09:07

@Totters123 no tips I'm afraid, just sending solidarity as I'm absolutely the same! Exhausted in the day, wide awake at night! Even in the spare room away from the snoring I struggle. Wouldn't recommend as a regular thing but occasionally I take paracetamol at night to help with my ribs as they are inflamed because of baby bump, I do find it helps me sleep better too I think it lowers your body temp a bit. Maybe worth a try for the odd night if you're really struggling. It takes the edge off my hip pain too!

Excited, nervous and completely unprepared @ThisLimeDeer 🤣 How are you?

i had an eventful weekend and ended up in hospital unrelated to pregnancy but the care was fab, obs cons was brilliant and baby was fine on scan if a little small! Although I lost all me preparation time it has reassured me that I’ll be grand tomorrow. Are you going in tonight or tomorrow? Good luck!

QuantumPanic · 12/02/2025 09:29

@Totters123 No tips, just sympathy. I give myself 30 minutes to fall asleep again, then go downstairs to sit on the sofa and put something quiet on the TV. I usually drift off - sitting up is more comfortable than lying down at this point, I think.
