Hi everyone, just found out I'm pregnant today at 9dpo, I wanted to make a thread for people to join who will be due in September 2025!

That’s so annoying! Is there a way to have a chat with HR and ask about what they can do?

I self-referred to my local trust on NYD and have already received my booking appointment and dating scan appointments. All a bit overwhelming as I’m still only 5+3

I'll have to ask, I'm so worried now. I've always worked so I just assumed I'd be entitled to it, I was in my last job for 8 years then we moved away.

Did they come in the post? I self referred on the 30th.

Yeah definitely ask them, fingers crossed for you!

I received the dating scan appointment info in a letter and could see the booking appointment info via the NHS app.

How’s everyone feeling today?

Melusina123 · 06/01/2025 13:56

@Lemonolive09 I think you will get Maternity Allowance? https://www.gov.uk/maternity-allowance I don’t think your employer pays for it, I think it’s via the benefits system, but it looks like it’s the same amount?

But FYI at the booking appointment for my last pregnancy the MW just asked when my LMP was and based the due date on that — something to keep in mind…

Also last time after I self-referred I got a text message with the appointment date, followed by a letter, and the appointment turned up in Patients Know Best, which is the system the hospital uses. It all happened within a week or so of self-referring, I think? But they might be clearing a backlog at the moment.

@jalapen0 I’m feeling OK. Had to go dashing around this morning for no.1 so a bit knackered! Just emailed EPAU to follow up on early scans as I’d quite like one next week.

2U2 · 06/01/2025 14:11

@Lemonolive09 I don't imagine that your employer tracks your menstrual cycle. So who's to say your LMP wasn't the 5th compared to say the 8th....

Also worth noting that your scan can change the due date, mine was moved forward by 3 days due to babies size even though I knew exactly when I conceived.

Sunrays22 · 06/01/2025 14:26

Hello everyone, I just found got my BFP today (15dpo) and I'm already a mix of excitement and anxiety! 🙈

Our first DD was a complete surprise 4 years ago and we found out at 8 weeks so I didn't have to deal with a lot of the initial anxieties of the first trimester as I was already most of the way through. This is definitely a totally new experience this time around!

How is everyone else managing their excitement/anxiety so far?

Olive2225 · 06/01/2025 14:46

Hope it's ok I jump on! I'm 5+2 and this is my first pregnancy.

I'm so anxious all the time, is anyone else the same? I don't know how to relax or even sleep - it's driving me mad.

I already put the 30th Nov on my self referral but I plan to tell the midwife that it was actually the 2nd Dec to put it forward when I get to the booking appointment. Then I'll have to hope that the scan matches up with that I suppose. I should've checked before, I feel very silly.

Welcome! We’re at about the same stage!

As to the anxiety, I think what works is different for everyone (and sometimes nothing works and you just gotta let yourself be anxious).

In my last pregnancy (which ended in a MMC) I took the attitude of being grateful for the time I would have with them, whether it was six weeks or the rest of my life. In some ways it did make the miscarriage a bit easier to bear because I really felt like I’d been with and loved that little one for as long as I had the chance. In the end you never know how long you’re going to get with anyone you love, and all we can really ever do is be grateful for the time we get with them, you know?

Anyway, this pregnancy my psychological stores are a bit low so at the moment I’m taking the approach of not getting attached until we make it past 8 weeks. Then I’ll see where I’m at.

At the end of the day pregnancy loss sucks whether you spend all your time worrying about it happening or not, and worrying won’t change the outcome. So you might as well do whatever makes you feel better in the moment. Also just remember that Mumsnet is atypical in how many of us have experience of loss - really the odds are so much in your favour for a successful pregnancy - you might find the Miscarriage Odds Reassurer useful on that front: https://datayze.com/miscarriage-reassurer .

So great to find someone around the same point as me!

Sorry to hear about your last experience, I have my fingers crossed everything works out for you this time :)

Definitely trying to just be grateful and accept that what is meant to be will be but this was a (lovely!) surprise to us so I think already I'm feeling quite out of control of everything, I hate the not knowing. Don't know if booking an early scan would reassure me or make things even worse.

MyGardenDaisies · 06/01/2025 15:25

I’ve been checking that reassured as well a few times.
anxiety is just something that lasts through pregnancy.
I am trying to enjoy it more and worry less this pregnancy.

I am having a bit of nausea and a more sensitive nose today, and some pulling / crampy feelings. That’s reassuring me too.

Trying to hold off till Thursday to do the digital test for 2-3 weeks pregnant.

@Olive2225 thanks, I have my fingers crossed for us all!

On scans, people have different views about whether scans are helpful or not. The scan experience can be stressful and the reassurance pretty fleeting! There’s a reason why the NHS doesn’t routinely offer scans before 12wks.

That said, FWIW if you do go for an early scan IMO late wk8 or early wk9 is a good time to do it because after 8w if you see a heartbeat the odds of a continuing pregnancy are about 98%. My consultant told me that most genetically abnormal embryos tend to "run out of steam" by about the middle of wk8. So seeing good news at around 9wks really should be meaningfully reassuring (as well as being about halfway between now and the first NHS scan).

camelinastorm · 06/01/2025 16:00

@Lemonolive09 or just ammend your LMP by 3 days as that will be the initial due date and you can submit that to HR .... That's the way I'd go to be honest 😂

PlanBea · 06/01/2025 16:11

@Lemonolive09 mat pay will be based on your MatB1 form which will be based on your scan date - the latest date your maternity leave can start is your due date, but you may find if your scan says 1st September and it needs to be 3rd, your midwife might write a date a couple of days "incorrectly" on the form and you can use a few days of annual leave beforehand.... I have known it happen before for someone in the same scenario, so just be really nice to your midwife!

ThisOrangeCat · 06/01/2025 16:23

Hi everyone, can I join? I got my BFP last week and think I'm 15dpo now. However just look Digital Week Tracker test which suggested I was already 3+ weeks. Not sure how that's possible as I'm certain I ovulated on 22nd December, so just taking it as a good sign that pregnancy hormones are nice and strong 🙂

I think I would be due around mid-September if everything goes well 🤞

Looking to book an Early Viability Scan soon for some reassurance.

Congratulations, it’s so hard not to be excited dh is probably fed up of baby talk already and we’ve already got 4 between us 🤣

camelinastorm · 06/01/2025 19:29

@ThisOrangeCat wow that's a cracking positive, I know of someone who got 3+ this early and it was triplets!! Could definitely be a sign of multiples.
Also I got 1-2 weeks and I know I was 2-3 (IVF so have the exact dates) so these tests can be out either way congratulations

Itonlytakesone · 06/01/2025 20:29

I re tested today and it's definitely a bfp and I'm more nervous than excited. I was putting my daughter to bed she's 5 wondering how I'd still do it if I had a baby too (husband works away in the week) so nice to be able to read through here so many of us in the same situation and can't talk about it to anyone. I'm unsure of the exact day of my last period so can I just go of conception?

MyGardenDaisies · 06/01/2025 20:42

I have told my sister and a friend now so far, and told family after 2 months with our first, and it was the best decision. I felt so supported, didn’t have that big secret feeling, and it made it feel so much more real!

I was thinking the exact same thing tonight whilst rocking my 13 month old to sleep, my OH works nights and I have no idea how i'll do it.

Ncl31 · 07/01/2025 06:32

When do you girls tell people you’re pregnant?
I work in the operating theatre and there are so many risks that I’ve had to tell a few people at work already.
i just have an enormous amount of guilt that I haven’t told my parents yet. I think I’m probably going to try and tell my mum today (dad works away)

Eliffant · 07/01/2025 10:18

@Ncl31 I think last time I told my work before anyone else (other than my partner), at about 7 weeks, because I had a lot of time off due to sickness. There are just some jobs where you need to tell people straight away, there's no need to feel guilty

Rachae · 07/01/2025 10:24

Morning everyone! Hope you're doing well. Missed a few messages. Caught the scan chat.. totally depends what personality you are and how you handle anxiety. I had so many losses and so in my successful one, I scanned weekly from 5.5 weeks until about 13. Some paid for and a few with my clinic. I found it enormously helpful and it got me through week to week.
Also, I hate to turn up to a 12 week appointment thinking all is fine for 3 months and imagining my new life .. only to find it was an early missed miscarriage! Dreadful.

Speaking of early, I've got my midwife booking appointment this Thursday. Gosh! Didn't expect it and hope that I am actually still pregnant so I don't waste their time! Xx
