Morning! Can i join please? I got my first positive digital weeks yesterday after seeing the faintest line on New Years Day.

Im not 100% sure how far along I am, as I had just come off the implant. According to my last period, id be over 5 weeks, due at the beginning of September but I don't think this is right with the pregnancy tests! So currently think im due towards the end.

Hopefully they are a sticky bean! This will hopefully be my second baby 🤞🏻 Im also quite anxious after having a loss, so usually test till the line gets darker than the control and the digital weeks say 3+. I know they are subjective but definitely helps!

Welcome to all the new joiners!

How's everyone going with choosing a hospital? I think I said upthread that I haven't self-referred yet, but I'll go with the same hosp I've had all my pregnancy/EPAU care at, which is not our nearest (nearest has a bad reputation and was carrying 60!! midwife vacancies at last CQC inspection). I didn't have a great experience giving birth at this hosp first time but at least through many years of experience I now have the phone numbes/emails of the people I need instead of always being in switchboard hell. 🤷‍♀️

fairydustt · 06/01/2025 07:49

Hi all, is anyone else not really having any symptoms yet? This is my first pregnancy so don’t know what to expect! I think I’m 4+5 today (Flo has me at 5+2 but I have long cycles so I don’t think that’s accurate). I’ve had sore boobs the last 3 weeks as I always do before I get my period, I’m having quite weird crazy dreams and have the occasional pulling sensation in my lower belly but other than that I feel totally normal, when do symptoms typically kick in?

Hi,
I may have replied to you above (Welsh citizen choosing an English hospital to labour in).
I had a call from the midwives at the English hospital the other day, they reassured me that we have a right to choose where we birth and if you self-refer no one can argue it. There have been lots of issues about English hospitals accepting Welsh patients in recent years so this was reassuring to hear. In short, self-refer to your chosen one 😊

thismotherhoodthing · 06/01/2025 08:32

@fairydustt you're still v early so
Don't worry. Try to enjoy it while it lasts! Some people never get any sickness etc. I'm 6 weeks and mine is starting to ramp up now

Sugarcube84 · 06/01/2025 08:33

I think I’m going to self refer to the midwife led birth centre closest to me, would have loved a home birth but I think dh would be more on edge. Hopefully I’ll get a water birth, third time lucky

Sugarcube84 · 06/01/2025 08:34

@fairydustt sickness kicked in bang on 6 weeks with my previous, enjoy eating everything you want while you can

Last time I gave birth at the midwife led birthing centre but it's now closed due to staff shortages. So it's a choice of the labour ward or go to a different hospital further away which would also be the labour ward but they have pools in every room at that hospital. Last time I spent most of my Labour in the pool so can't imagine not having that. The hospital is quite a bit further away though. Most of my friends have had home births recently but I'm just not too sure how I feel about it! I worry about something going wrong.

PlanBea · 06/01/2025 08:44

@fairydustt I usually notice changes to my body pretty quickly (I have chronic health conditions so have a lifetime experience of checking in on myself!) but usually anything I'd class as a "symptom" takes a bit longer to kick in - closer to 6 weeks. I hope you don't worry too much yet, enjoy feeling normal for as long as possible!

I think if I could guarantee a birth pool I’d be quite happy going to hospital (again) as I’ve had positive experiences in 2 different hospitals. How much further away is it?

MoreCoffeePlzz · 06/01/2025 08:58

Hiya everyone happy new year! Decided to join now, got my bfp on Christmas eve so I reckon I'm about 5w5d now. This will be our second baby, first is 21mo and will be 2.5 when baby arrives which I'm hoping is a nice age gap! I don't know if it's down to being more active running after a feral toddler this pregnancy but I've been feeling way more rubbish than I did at this point in my first pregnancy. That horrible nausea that feels like a hangover seems to be getting worse by the day! I only had about two weeks of nausea with my daughter from 8-10w so I'm praying this doesn't mean I'm in for a rough ride!
Can't wait to get chatting to you all, hope everyone is doing ok and looking after themselves xxx

Rachae · 06/01/2025 08:59

Hey @fairydustt I never had a single symptom when I was pregnant with my son. A few other ladies in my group didn't either. About 25% of people don't! Xx

Melusina123 · 06/01/2025 09:12

@fairydustt for me symptoms have always started around 6wks as @PlanBea says. But every pregnancy is different so hard to predict!

@Sugarcube84 @thismotherhoodthing Birthing centre would be nice. I’m too anxious for home birth, I think, although having no.1 on labour ward (and ultimately in theatre) did make me appreciate why someone would go for a home birth. However, I had a retained placenta and a small PPH with no. 1 so I’ve been recommended labour ward for any future deliveries.

@MoreCoffeePlzz welcome & congrats! We’re anticipating a 2.5yr age gap as well, assuming everything goes OK.

thismotherhoodthing · 06/01/2025 09:40

@Sugarcube84 it's not that much further in terms of distance but the roads are slower so it's about 20-25 mins longer. Not too much but last time, my labour ramped up so quickly and my contractions were so close together for most of it. I remember I got to the hospital and was so relieved as couldn't sit in the car any longer. But the guaranteed pool will probably sway me.

My other concern is who will look after my daughter. My parents aren't able to as one of them is disabled so they can't get anywhere quickly. Husbands family are in Ireland so it would be a case of his mum coming to stay - which is usually quite a stressful experience in itself.i may have to make a rota although most friends have kids of their own

MyGardenDaisies · 06/01/2025 10:10

@fairydustt I am 4+3 and have said as you - some pulling / light cramp/twinges, vivid dreams. I also have frequent peeing, maybe bigger boobs and also want to eat everything all the time!!

Lemonolive09 · 06/01/2025 11:12

Has anyone got their booking appointment yet? Wondering when I'll hear. I'm currently stressing because I started a new job in November, well the same job but became permanent and I've just worked out that I won't even be entitled to statutory maternity. I thought everyone who worked was entitled, I thought it'll be hard without actual pay which I had last time but we will have to save and make do but now to realise I'll get nothing at all I could cry. I'm 3 days out!

MyGardenDaisies · 06/01/2025 11:55

@Lemonolive09 I have filled the mypregnancynotes.com form and waiting for a call back from midwives.

GP said it’s typically around 8 week mark, which is what I had with my first baby too.

MyGardenDaisies · 06/01/2025 11:56

I’ve started to track calories on My Fitness Pal today as I could eat a horse! Lol this pregnancy I don’t want to gain anything unnecessary so gonna keep a close eye

Rachae · 06/01/2025 11:57

@Lemonolive09 my booking appointment wasn't until 10.5 weeks last time.. I'm hoping for sooner this time but haven't heard back yet.

I think everyone gets statutory from the gov as long as you've made national insurance contributions. Have a look on the website.. did you have a job before you moved to this job? X

Rachae · 06/01/2025 11:58

@Lemonolive09 sorry I think I meant maternity allowance! X

Yeah I worked here already but as a temp via an agency for ten months, I'm pretty sure HR won't change my start date though. I would need the midwife to put my due date as 8th not 5th I think

Yeah my booking appointment is 28th Jan I think I'll be about 8/9 weeks? I'm in Scotland so you self refer here and the midwife gets in touch within the week to schedule your first appointment. Also really sorry to hear you won't get maternity pay, for my first pregnancy I had just started a job and was only entitled to maternity allowance. It was tight but we managed.

srose25 · 06/01/2025 12:30

Hi Everyone 5 weeks + 6 today! First time pregnancy 🥹
The wait to first scan (even the early reassurance scan) feels like a lifetime!
Booked in for 18th January and literally counting down the minutes!

Does anyone else just feel anxious everyday not knowing!?

chicke09 · 06/01/2025 12:49

Joining 🥰 based on period I will be due 16th Sept

That’s so annoying! Is there a way to have a chat with HR and ask about what they can do?

I self-referred to my local trust on NYD and have already received my booking appointment and dating scan appointments. All a bit overwhelming as I’m still only 5+3
