@BroomAdventures there are certain conditions and risk factors that mean you are more prone to blood clots in pregnancy blood pressure is just one risk factor that can increase your risk. This can increase the risk of miscarriage as the clots can impact the health of the placenta. Further into pregnancy I think it can cause slower growth. I know a friend had growth scans due to being on blood thinners and risk of small babies

Thank you. My risk is clotting due to an autoimmune condition and I wasn’t aware of the complications with the placenta. Will hopefully be seeing the consultant before Christmas and will know more then

@MaSads ohhh nice not too long to go. I have one on Saturday (7th) where I’ll be 10weeks exactly. How did you get your 12 week scan date? Do they book that in at your first midwife appointment? I have mine Thursday so I am hoping they’ll give me the date then but I’m doubtful it’ll be pre Xmas as I will hopefully be 12 weeks on 21st!

haha children are great aren’t they! My niece said to my sister when she gave birth to my nephew “why do you still have a big tummy when the baby isn’t inside anymore”. Decorum hey! We have told parents and my best friend but not told wider friends and siblings yet. Waiting u til we hopefully get to 12 weeks.

oh yeah they can be sore!! They do make you gassy don’t they? I have to use them up the bum as I get irritation otherwise.

glad you’re feeling happy again. That’s good to hear 🥰 when was your last scan? I’m really scared and anxious again 😥 feel really scared. X

@GCS34 Aww I hope it goes well for you! I was sent a letter by the hospital trust with the date almost immediately. I think all the different hospitals manage things differently, it may say on the website of yours what the process is. They initially offered me a scan on 23rd which I had to change, so maybe you will get yours just before Xmas too. Hahah yeah my daughter has no filter, luckily it gave me an excuse to say to her about my tummy getting bigger as there's so much nice Xmas food (if I stop feeling nauseous!) That's hilarious what your niece said haha! Yes very sore and I had a very painful stomach, it was just too uncomfortable for me with the sickness too! My last scan was at 8 weeks 2 days, last Friday. Oh no sorry that you are feeling scared, could you move your scan forward, is it a private one? Hopefully the week goes fast for you x

I'm 7w3d today and until yesterday had an uneventful time, only symptoms were fatigue and sleepiness (falling asleep at 8pm!) and tender boobs. I survived a 14 hour flight to Japan for hols at 4-6 weeks, where we did a lot of walking and even a big hike and 70k bike ride. But the flight wasn't fun as I needed to wee a lot but was in the middle seat as we booked it before I got pregnant (only aisle seats in future!). I needed WAY more rest breaks though, and got winded a lot quicker, even going up stairs, when I'm an experienced hill walker. I had some brown spotting on holiday but didn't worry as no cramps and it stopped after 2 days. My booking apptmt is next week and 12 wk scan early Jan.

Yesterday though I had some more brown spotting throughout the day and weird cramps - in my crotch and bum. It was initially shooting pain that came and went but then became consistent everytime i walked or coughed. Not like period pain, more like a stitch but in the centre not sides. The spotting stopped and never got heavier, pain stayed but I called up my maternity service who asked me to go to A&E and get a referral to EPU because of the pain. They said it wasn't normal but also not uncommon. They were amazing and I have a scan booked this am, told me to get bed rest until then. Am hoping it's all ok but also preparing it could be bad news. Just grateful that I'll know either way in a few hours.

I can't believe you managed a 70k bike ride - I couldn't do that pre pregnancy let alone now!

Got my 3+ and I think that's now me done testing (she says...)
Think I'm 5+4
We have a private scan booked just before Christmas, I haven't heard from anyone after my self referral almost 2 weeks ago.
Thinking of calling them tomorrow, how long did everyone have to wait for their booking appointment?

I think we must be due the same day! I’m 5+5 today

saving my clear blue for Wednesday as that’s a week since my last one (2-3)

I’m serial testing with out of date cheapy ones. I just don’t feel pregnant. Last time I felt awful so it’s great but terrifying. I’m so tempted by a private scan but don’t want to end up down a rabbit hole of panic.

got my midwife appt for 30/12 and scan 17/1

@MaSads thanks honey. Ah okay I’ve not had a letter. Only a letter with my booking appointment with the midwife on Thursday. I’ll ask when there. I do hope they can do it pre-Xmas, however if not we’ll just book a private on regardless.

oh gosh is the nausea really bad still? Mines not been bad this weekend, which has probably provoked the anxiety of something going wrong. But I don’t know if that’s because I’ve been away and almost distracted and busy. Sometimes that helps.

defo not worth it if you were feeling rotten on them. Nausea + sore tummy isn’t ideal! I’ve been on and off them for 2 years with IVF so I think my body is just accustomed to them!

ah okay so my scan was 8+3 (Tuesday just gone) and next is Saturday at 10 so exactly the same as you. The wait between during these early days are just treacherous. And yesterday, Saturday is private. There was no availability Friday, Thursday u can’t do and weds away so Saturday it has to be! Aye aye aye. Can I just sleep all week until then please? 😅🙈 x

Rubberducky123 · 02/12/2024 09:17

I am 9+3 today. I’m in NI, so our process is that I self refer and hear nothing until I get a letter about 12 week scan and booking apt. Which will both be on same day between 11 and 14 weeks.
Last time I had it at 12 weeks which would put me just before Christmas, would love it to be before Christmas as we have just bought our parents a Christmas bauble with “To the best granny and granda from Clemmie and my little brother or sister” Would be very nice to give them it on Christmas Eve but we will wait and see

SlimGin · 02/12/2024 10:28

@Rubberducky123 what a nice idea about the bauble! I am trying to think of ways to tell my dad at Christmas, this might have inspired me a bit 😅

I have my booking appt this morning and my mum is visiting later so I will tell her over lunch, an exciting day! Although probably won't feel all that exciting when I'm halfway through the Midwife's Q's at the appointment..

Is anyone else having awful vivid dreams? Mine are really distressing and wake me up and I find myself thinking about them the next day. Really horrible things that I do not want to think about.

@Rubberducky123 awww hopefully you can get a scan pre Xmas. I am hoping for my 12 week scan pre Xmas (im the same as you pretty much — 9+2 today) so if I don’t get my 12 week one before I’ll do a private one so I too can do something cute like you’ve done.

is this your first and have you had a scan yet? When will you get your scan date? I am hoping I’ll get mine on Thursday at my first MW apt.

houwseevryweekend · 02/12/2024 13:23

Well I had my EPU scan and wished I hadn't as it's just left me confused and upset. They could see the gestational sac and yolk sac and a tiny white dot she thought was the fetal pole/embryo. But it was too tiny to be certain so she had to put it down as 'not visualised' - and booked me in for 2 weeks to check progress. She said the gestational sac was measuring about 6 weeks at 13mm when LMP puts me at 7w3d. I have regular 29 day cycles and we last DTD on 25/10, got my positive on 4/11 when I assumed I was 10DPO. So doesn't seem likely I could have ovulated that much later to be tracking over a week behind! She didn't give any indication i should be worried, just wait till 2 weeks to confirm viability but she also wasn't reassuring me it was common. Regards the bleeding, she could see a small patch of blood in my uterus she thought would just resolve itself, and no cause could be found.

I've booked a private scan for this Sunday as waiting till 17 Dec to check progress is far too long. I've heard how tracking so far behind if you're regular cycles isn't positive news so bracing myself.

I'm in this position too. I had a scan that should have been 7 +4 measured 6 weeks and had to switch to an internal scan. I have a scan on Thursday which will be 15 days after the first m
I've read mixed things some women catch up by 12 weeks, others stay progressing but with the delay and others it's not successful.
I've read up to 5 days can be normal and over 2 weeks is usually a problem so it's in that horrid grey area in the middle. I've read it can take 5-10 days to implant, there can be delays in ovulation. Logically I can see how if everything is on the slow side you can be behind by 10days and it be normal but its hard not to fret!

houwseevryweekend · 02/12/2024 14:27

@Superscientist So sorry you're going through this same worry of not knowing what's going on. I hope you and I just have slow growers who catch up in time. I don't track ovulation either so could have ovulated/implanted later. I completely understand why the NHS uses LMP to date pregnancies but honestly it's a pain because most women don't follow this perfect 28 day cycle.

I wish scan tech had advanced enough we could tell date of conception and not this guess work. Can put a man on the moon, print 3D body parts but maternity tech hasn't evolved in like 40 years.

Superscientist · 02/12/2024 14:40

@houwseevryweekend
You can get variation even with IVF when you know the day it was reintroduced - not as much as 10 days
Technology can't trump the body being weird and unpredictable!
I don't track ovulation so I could have ovulated later. My partner went away for a week a few days after I was predicted to ovulate based on cycle length. I could have ovulated around the time he came back. It's been a long week and a half!
I've been off sick with sickness and fatigue so been relying on the TV for distraction as that's all I can manage

lovealways97 · 02/12/2024 14:54

Just got a letter through with my booking appointment. It's a week before Christmas and I'll be at work! I'm now going to have to tell my manager earlier than planned to be able to leave an hour early to attend appointment! (I rang and tried to rearrange it but they said no chance they are fully booked for December!)

I told my manager I had a long awaited apptmt for a specialist referral but didn't specify why/what. Could you do the same and make up the time later or will they force you take it as a sick time off if not maternity? They don't need details of your medical time off if you don't want to share.

Sorry to hear of your experience at the EPU. Sending you lots of positive vibes.

Just to give you some hope, I went to my scan at 6 weeks at the EPU and all they saw was an empty sac, no yolk sac, no fetal pole, nothing. I was petrified and they made me feel so worried, on top of that my HCG levels were not doubling so they asked me to come back within 2 weeks. I also couldn’t take that wait so I booked a private scan 3 days later and to my surprise my little bean was there, with a heartbeat! Things change so so fast at that stage. Unfortunately there really is no way to tell at this stage how it will turn out, but try not to assume the worse, we don’t worry until we have to! Wait for your scan on Sunday and let us know how it goes!

houwseevryweekend · 02/12/2024 16:12

@TiffanyBlythe Thank you so much for those re-assuring words. It's made me feel a bit better. I'll definitely update after Sun!

MrsS11 · 02/12/2024 19:37

@lovealways97 you absolutely don't have to go into details of what a medical appointment is for if you don't want to, most people take the hint if you are vague and don't want to be embarrassed! You could be going for a smear test or to have your piles seen to for all they know.. @houwseevryweekend sorry you've been left in such limbo, it's such a weird time. Hopefully implantation just took a little longer and there'll be a heartbeat next time

Your hospital doesn't seem very efficient..🙈 or maybe as you're still very early, they are waiting for you to be 6 weeks? When I self-referred at 6 weeks, I got a text 2 days later with a date for my booking appointment, and then quickly received letters in the post for my combined blood test (has to be before the 12w scan I believe) and 12 weeks scan. It was all sorted quickly even before I saw the midwife

At my trust you have to call them once you’re 6 weeks and then they book in your first appointment. Maybe check your trust’s website in case yours is the same? You could always call them up anyway if it’s unclear to get info on what happens next.

Moved my private scan to today instead of next week after waking up with lots of anxiety, baby was wiggling away and waving little teeny arms, measuring 9 weeks 3 days (last period puts me at 9 weeks 5 days) so due date is now 5th July! Heard the heartbeat again and got a tonne of pictures and feel so much better. Hope everyone else is having a good day today x

Congrats @MaSads that's great news!! your due date is the same as mine now! And so lovely you got to hear the heartbeat - I've only seen it so far! My next scan is Saturday at 10 weeks (Though I don't think I can wait until then!!) x

@GCS34 Honestly it was such a relief, I had the worst dream last night and luckily the scanning place had a space today instead. It was so lovely to see baby moving! I hope the week passes quickly for you, it's nice to have a due date twin! X

@MaSads I bet it was and a big weight off your shoulders I am sure. Do you have any more scans booked or is that it now until 12 weeks? When was your last one prior to this? I'm ever so scared and anxious today - I don't know what's got in to me the past few days (though yesterday I was SO rough all day, perma hungover atm!!)

I had a counselling session with a CBT therapist and she basically just told me I had to remain calm else it's not good for me or the baby, like I was going to cause harm for being anxious. Like I can control it! Just made me feel more anxious now. How is that meant to be helpful!?

Anyway on to positives, yes to a due date twin! You have your 12 week scan in 2 weeks right? Hoping I'll get mine on Thursday. xx
