Congratulations @lovealways97 🥰 when roughly will you have your first scan?

@Frenchtoastie I wasn't feeling any nausea until I was driving last night! I got awful travel sickness in my first pregnancy.
I want to tell my close family (parents + sister) around/before Christmas. My 12w scan will be in Jan so I'd like an early scan if possible. Might end up telling my mum sooner though!
I'm on the fence about telling my work team. On one hand I really want to tell them as there are 2 pregnant ladies on my team and I want to join in on the pregnancy talk! But I will be 12 weeks early Jan so may wait until after the Xmas break just in case.
What is everyone else doing?

Thank you! We've booked the first scan for 3rd December I should be 7+6 by then.

I really want to tell my parents and in laws on Christmas day but now keep thinking should I hold out until New Year.

Congratulations 🥹 how beautiful. My mum was gay (sadly passed early this year), my brother and I grew up with two mums. It was lovely and I’m excited for your family to start too 🥰

thank you for such a lovely comment, it made me well up!

Hey congratulations and welcome 🥰 I'm also in a same sex couple!

hurray, I'm not the only gay in the village 😂

Did you have IUI/IVF or a donor at home? (Hope you don't mind me asking, feel free to PM reply)

We have a known donor so used the at home method. Started in Jan this year and had 2 miscarriages along the way so hoping this is 3rd time lucky! What about you?

DandyPeachHare · 12/11/2024 21:18

Hi all!

I posted on here about a week ago. We went for our early scan today, which I thought I was about 7 weeks but they’ve measured me at 6 weeks 4 days. Is that normal? She didn’t seem concerned but just wondering if any ladies have had a similar experience? X

Around 8th July I think, so I'm 6 weeks today.
I'm hopeful this is our sticky bean, the nausea has been in full swing for over a week now and whilst it's really getting me down, I'm hoping it's a really good sign.

In terms of telling people I've told quite a few people this time and we're only at 5 weeks. Told my mum before I tested as I had a metallic taste! We had an MC in summer and gone through fertility treatment, so I've been pretty open about that with friends and family too. I'm not screaming it from the rooftops but I'm also not hiding it if it comes up as it can be all consuming. So if for example we're with friends and I need an early night then I'll tell them that's why. Everyone has been so supportive and to be honest I've needed people on this journey with me. I've learnt so much about other people's experience of fertility etc from sharing and it's just made the whole process less isolating.

lovealways97 · 13/11/2024 08:04

I slipped on the stairs and landed hard on my coccyx this morning. So worried now that I've caused us to lose our baby

I think there's so much pressure on NOT saying anything before 12wks, whereas actually...you want the support of people around you ❤totally get it from both sides, but after suffering a MC i absolutely understand why people would tell their family and friends earlier. Ours had been so supportive (lost at 5wk4days) and i couldnt imagine not having that support around me again! Keeping everything crossed for a healthy pregnancy for you x

Ruixue358 · 13/11/2024 08:45

5wk4 days today. Last time our bean stopped growing at this point so its an emotional day as i hope we get to go a lot further than last time round. I have a 7wk scan booked in a week and a half and i'm so hoping we get to see a heartbeat and a healthy little bubs. 💕

butterfly1511 · 13/11/2024 09:06

I'm really worried that the nausea that was starting to gradually ramp up every day has disappeared.... I have my early scan tomorrow and I'm really scared 😞 I still have really sore boobs?

Minniemad0110 · 13/11/2024 09:28

Just had my BFP today and looked my due date will be around 20th July.
Rang the GP who said they don’t want to see me, it’s the midwives. Rang them. They don’t want to see me till next week.

we have been TTC for 3 years so I’m panicking about every little thing.

when is the earliest you can get a scan and when are we ‘in the clear’ as I am very worried it’s a chemical pregnancy. I’ve ended up googling too much.

Superscientist · 13/11/2024 10:31

@Minniemad0110 in the clear - when you bring your baby home from the hospital but there are lots of milestones as you go that reduce the risk of anything happening.
Early scans can cause more anxiety than they resolve if timed too early. It's possible to see a heartbeat at 6 weeks but it is not a given and if you are a few days further behind than you thought you might not see much. There's huge errors in measurements so you might measure behind at 6 weeks but by the time you get to the dating scan at 11-14 weeks they are on track. Hearing a heartbeat after 8 weeks I think means the risk of early miscarriage has now reduced. If you hold out on early scans until 8 weeks there's a better chance that they will see a heartbeat and if you do the chance of miscarriage does drop but remember that you can see a heartbeat on a scan but it's only a snapshot in time and on the way home from the scan it could stop.

The first trimester is underwhelming and anxiety provoking. It's broadly waiting and hoping and resting. Booking appointments are typically 7-10 weeks. First NHS scan to date the pregnancy and do screening for downs, Edwards and patau syndromes (if you wish to do the screening) is between 11 and 14 weeks. The second trimester is equally low input too. Usually an appointment with the midwife at 16 weeks, they may or may not try to hear the heartbeat with a Doppler. It's hit or miss if they can hear anything so some trusts have stopped trying. Then you have the anomaly scan at around 20 weeks. It's only in your 3rd trimester that you will see your midwife regularly.

They are so well cushioned in there. I had a bad crash at 15 weeks with my daughter on the motorway which closed the motorway and she was absolutely fine!

Congrats! Yes GPs don't do much about it here, and for Midwives you usually can refer yourself to maternity unit online around 6 weeks (or mine says "as soon as you find out) and you'll receive a booking appointment date.
I think most private clinics do early scans from 6weeks, but from what I've been reading on here etc, you should really wait until 8 weeks, as after seeing a heartbeat at that stage the risk of MC is almost none (but never zero)

Nomnomnew · 13/11/2024 11:16

How is everyone doing? Welcome to the new people and congratulations. And I’m sorry to those who have had bad news.

I’m feeling so so anxious. I don’t remember being so worried last time. I’ve not been getting sickness yet and last time it hit me like a train at 6 weeks and I was in hospital with it by 7. I know it could just be different this time, or the preemptive medication could be doing its job, but I can’t help but worry it’s a bad sign. The first trimester is so stressful! 😭

BroomAdventures · 13/11/2024 11:26

For anyone who’s measuring behind I hope I can provide some reassurance. I was scanned at exactly 6 weeks and was measuring behind, consultant could see a gestational sack and yolk sac only.

I was rescanned today and my dates are exactly as they should be and little bean had a very obvious little heartbeat.

My bleeding has also eased off, hoping it stays that way. I forgot how stressful pregnancy is

Congratulations and I'm so sorry for you previous loss. I'm around 4 weeks today and had a loss in September at around 6 weeks (didn't find out until about 11 weeks) so it's a very nerve wracking time and I completely understand what you're going through. I hope your scan goes well, I'm thinking of booking a private scan around 8 weeks.

Cookies123 · 13/11/2024 12:00

Hiii, so I've recently found out that im pregnant, I'm roughly 4 weeks 1 day. This is a test that I took this morning, do yous think it looks okay ? I'm so anxious due to 2 recent miscarriages.

@Cookies123 Congratulations! That's a really strong line, how early were your previous miscarriages? I used boots tests and mine looked just like that, I'm now 6 weeks 6 days

@MaSads I'm sorry to hear you're poorly on top of pregnancy symptoms. I'm doing ok, just taking each day as it comes at the moment. The spotting has increased today, its been a week since I had the big bleed and haven't had a full day of nothing since. Friday still seems an age away. I'm guessing you're feeling the same about Tuesday. X

@HighSir I am very upset about having to cancel my scan today, next Tuesday can't come quick enough as long as I can shake this cold. I might try travel sickness wristbands as between the cold and the nausea, I am barely eating which can't be good. Have you told the epu you are spotting again? I hope your scan goes well on Friday x

@Cookies123 Apologies I misread your post as 3 weeks 1 day, but I still think that's a good line - have you done any earlier tests to compare
