@kc92 I'm not sure I'm cut out to be with a toddler day in / day out. I'd hate never having a break. I don't particularly love my job either but I'd find being home 24/7 quite hard tbh. I imagine it would be hard on the relationship too. Even on mat leave, I found we had very little to talk about at the end of the day as I had nothing going on except for baby 24/7.

WinsandSam · 09/07/2025 13:16

We still only have 2 bottom teeth here but top ones are incoming. 🫠 also in the separation anxiety stage where daddy will not suffice, only me! Or Nana, who is preferred to me 🤣

oh @kcif I could never go back to work I would totally take the opportunity!! Maybe when baby was at school I’d go back. Sadly funds mean we can’t afford it but I were you I’d take the opportunity

just heading back from a break in York- it’s hard work with a baby that can’t yet walk but wants to, is bored easily, wants to throw food as doesn’t eat much

SpicyMoth · 09/07/2025 22:45

@kc92 The smoking was a HUGE ick, it's all I could smell the whole time!
None of us are sick anymore thank god, but this Thyroid medication is... Something... I'm not sure it's the correct dose just yet, about the only improvement I have atm is that my skin feels marginally less dry - My hair is falling out like absolute crazy though and it's making me very self conscious :/ It's worse than post-partum fall out that's for sure.

Re; Mat Leave or SAHM - I'm in the SAHM camp, I couldn't imagine it any other way to be honest, I never want to be away from my wee boy.
My life situation is a bit weird in general though, and definitely not normal so any input I have would have to be taken with a massive heaping of salt! Haha

Apologies for a quick topic change, but what's babbling looking like for everyone right now?

Bear will be 10 months in a little under a week's time and I can't lie, I'm getting a bit sad that there's no "ma ma ma's" on the horizon :/

He's OBSESSED with "da da da's", and will do ", Deh, gah, goo, bah, cah, and whisper some P's sometimes, but still no Ma's

His babble isn't particularly conversational either, and I've read that it's supposed to be at this stage - or is that wrong?
Honestly there's SO much conflicting info out there, I feel like my head is constantly spinning lol :')

TripleESept24 · 10/07/2025 11:09

@SpicyMoth Esme only says dada to and she says nods her head and sounds like she's saying yeahhhh 🤣

I have just left Esme for the first time with daddy over night!! Came down to Cornwall just for 24 hours for a gig at the eden project with my 21 year old daughter!! Had an amazing time but my god I miss her and am emotional today!! 6 and a half hour train journey to go yet too!! Can't wait to get home and give her the biggest cuddle 😭😭😭

kc92 · 11/07/2025 07:40

@HuggingAnIcePack887 I find toddlers funner than babies tbh. Once they can walk & talk they're not boring anymore a lot more interesting!

@WinsandSam it'd mean a LOT of tightening our financial belt & a lot of overtime for DH - which he likes so not the biggest sacrifice.

@SpicyMoth see every SAHM seems so glad to be home that Idk if I'll regret not doing it!!

Work have said no to part time hours but I'll be going back on a 4 day week through parental leave. I think I'll see how it goes & then if I'm horrifically home sick for the babies apply for a year's sabbatical. I really do love my job & I work in such a trends / connection based industry it would be impossible to claw my way back after a long time out.

@SpicyMoth I'm sorry to hear that! Hopefully they can adjust the dose 🤞🏻 My hair has gone awfully thin as well & think it's because my DS is feeding less? I remember being practically bald when I weaned DS1.

For babble that sounds normal! Mine is about 2 weeks older than yours I think, & he says mama with semi purpose, has thrown out enough dadas to keep DH happy but not many, and loves to go BubuBUBUbu. He repeated the noise "boop!" back to me yesterday for the first time so we're getting there.

We're still waiting on teeth #3&#4 and they better cut soon because this child is reaching maximum Calpol dose. 😅 He now also despises spoons, and will only eat dinner if he can pick it up himself.

@TripleESept24 that sounds like a lovely trip. 👏🏼 Bet the cuddle was the sweetest when you got home!

TripleESept24 · 15/07/2025 20:59

@kc92 it was so nice when I finally got home after 1.5 hour delay and a packed train with NO AIR CON 😭🫠 She was so happy to see muma tho!

We went to see a health visitor today and get Esme weighed and she's gone right up to 91st centile!! She does love her food! They've told us to cut a bottle now, as she has milk in her porridge or cereal. she's still a bit funny at dinner times tho so still gonna give her one at bedtime! She's walking round the furniture now tho I think she will be walking before she's 1!

We are having tears and tantrums at nap and bedtime at the minute! She's always so good at going down normally but she stands at her cot crying. Tbf tho tonight wasn't AS BAD. She's just settling, took about 8 minutes of standing and crying tho..... 😓

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 15/07/2025 21:18

@TripleESept24 we're having tantrums at bedtime too. He's clocked onto the bedtime routine and has sudden fomo. Tries to escape the room and we're chasing him around every night

I think when she couldn't stand in the cot she rolled around and was quite happy. Now she just doesn't wanna lie down stands up and kicks off 😬 she didn't take too long tonight tho and she's still very good once she is asleep so I can't really complain but I hate hearing her cry and get teasy!!

WinsandSam · 30/07/2025 19:13

Guys, the babies are nearly a year old 😳😳😳😳

Decaffe · 30/07/2025 20:14

I know! I would give absolutely anything to go back and do it all again 💙

We had his ten month review today and all went well, which was reassuring.

As for going back to work soon, I can’t get my head round how I won’t be with my boy all day long. And someone else is going to be with him, experiencing all the joy. I’m going to miss so much. I think it’s awful, actually. I wish I didn’t have to do it. 😞

WinsandSam · 30/07/2025 21:58

@Decaffei know how you feel! I’m on leave in September and go back in October. Fortunately just 2 long days…. But it feels 2 days too long. I really don’t want to go back at all. It’s so so sad 😭

SpicyMoth · 30/07/2025 22:06

Its absolutely bonkers how time has gone by so quickly, it feels like only the other month we were all about ready to pop!

How's everyone's little ones doing?

I'm sure Bear will be walking before his birthday at the rate he's going, he's so keen to be on his feet and skirting around on everything hahah, and good god he's so HEAVY!

Ahh I can't believe it. I just booked a family photo session as I want to celebrate us surviving our first year as parents. I'm not sure i could do it all over again like some of you 🤣 my DS is walking which is wonderful(he's doing 8-10 steps on his own until he falls flat on his face) and he's incredibly happy all of a sudden. I think I like this stage a lot better!

I mentioned on here I went back to work around 6 months and yeah, it's been horrible. I can't find any positives about it at all. I mean, the days in the office are physically easier than being at home as I'm not chasing a baby around and I drink a coffee in peace, but that's it.

I said to DH that I won't even entertain the idea of another baby unless we move back to the UK so I can get 12 months of mat leave. So we are currently applying for jobs and trying to figure out where we're going to live. And I need to somehow pack a whole house, ship it, fly a 13 hour flight and move into a new place, all with 1 year old. Very exciting though!

Oooh my, that sounds super stressful!
But it also sounds like its the right choice for you all honestly - best of luck with it lovely!! ♡ x

sorchanim · 01/08/2025 08:54

I've not been commenting on this thread for a long time, but have been reading all your stories of teeth/no teeth, babbling/less babbling, holidays and work and everything else, and it gives me such joy to check in and see how everyone is doing! Every baby is truly different and it's so nice to read your comments and be reassured that everyone is going through something similar with the same questions.

Our girl will be 10 months on Sunday (she was due in September but she came at 41+2 so one of the youngest in the group!) and is pulling to stand but not yet standing. 2 bottom teeth since about 8 months and 2 top teeth just coming down now. We've been very lucky with the teething.
She's 99% for height and 95% for weight - 76cm and 10kg (22lb) at her 9 month appointment so she looks a bit like a toddler when we bring her to creche as she's bigger than some babies who are older than her. She's eating pretty well, a mix of BLW at home and spoon feeding at creche. She's still on 2 naps, sometimes a sneaky third one in the late afternoon but those are rare. We're off to see my family this weekend for 2 weeks, so a 1.5hr drive followed by 2 hour plane journey awaits us - eek! She's also been waking up super early this week and we'll be an hour behind next week so I'm worried I'll be up at 4am on Monday morning!
Mat leave in my country is only 3 months, and I extended it to 5 months with parental leave. She started creche the day she turned 5 months. It's been totally fine, but now seeing comments about going back to work I really realise how short mine was.

@kc92 You asked me back in April how work was going and I never replied! I'm a music teacher so I just went back mid-March and finished at the end of June and am on my summer holidays again, so it's been okay. It was okay being away from the baby as I really like my job and I found being at home all day quite lonely and tiring, but the hardest thing was definitely pumping as she was just 5 months and a week when I went back and I wanted to EBF for at least 6 months. She started solids then and we switched to combo feeding and then once the stress of pumping enough had gone, I was able to enjoy BF outside of work hours again! It will be challenging going back in September but she LOVES creche, they love her there and we see her doing so well there. She's crawling everywhere and pulling up onto everything and we can hardly keep up with her - we're renovating and our home is barely childproof so it's a lot of work having her at home even on the weekends. We've obviously spent way more time together over the summer which has been wonderful, but I have really enjoyed going back to work and having more music in my day and hanging out with my colleagues etc. But you have to do what's right for your family and what your mama heart is telling you!

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 01/08/2025 12:49

@sorchanim just on the early wakes, I recently made my DS' room VERY dark. He already had a baby blackout thing but some light was peaking through the sides. I put some tinfoil around the edges (yes, it looks dreadful and cheap from outside) to stop that and it completely sorted it! He hasn't woken up at 5.30-6am in 2 weeks!

WinsandSam · 05/08/2025 22:03

Ruby is now crawling, pulling to stand and taking steps independently. Not walking, just a couple of steps. She loves to dance! Is hilarious and very happy. She’s going to be short like me 😂

she has 7 or maybe 8 teeth now. Loves to bite and pinch my arms which drives me nuts.

Shes eating but is picky! No veg unless hidden in food. Favourite food is Greek yogurt and olives (not together 😂) is a fruit monster too. Won’t touch porridge or weetabix which is a pain.

I go back to work in October which I’m dreading.
mum still EBF but sometimes she only feeds once between 7am and 7pm. Mostly twice. It’s strange as I never thought this would happen. She still wakes a few times at night, we co sleep and feed to sleep.

thinking of getting a floor bed in her room so I can start trying to get her to sleep independently. But this girl loves to cuddle alllllllll night 🥰

just booked our first holiday to Menorca for the day after her birthday 🎈 our treat for surviving a year

hope you’re all well

TripleESept24 · 07/08/2025 14:15

Nice to hear how everyone is doing!! 🫶

Esme got her first tooth about ten days ago!! Still just one! She's still a great eater but similar to ruby with veg @WinsandSam she will eat a sweet potato as a jacket with cheese and spring onions but not just chunks of sweet potato! And same with broccoli cauliflower etc will eat as cauli cheese and in a mixed veg pasta bake but won't just eat veg on its own!! She loves fishcakes, avocado with anything! And loves all fruits and yogurt!!

Esme has been crawling for a few months now and is VERY QUICK she is walking around the furniture but won't let go or take any steps yet!

We have her 10-12 month review next week with health visitor! She went right up to 90th centile since eating 3 meals a day! She's cut to one bottle a day now just at bedtime.

Still very lucky here and sleeps through the night 🥹

WinsandSam · 08/08/2025 11:49

@TripleESept24it sounds like they have similar pallets! Fuss pots. Fishcakes are a win here too.

so jealous of her sleeping through the night!!

We are doing med veg tonight with cous cous I highly doubt she will eat it 🤣 won't eat rice or cous cous either.

WinsandSam · 08/08/2025 14:49

@TripleESept24ha, couscous was hilarious. So much gagging and spitting it out. Good luck! We have pasta and sauce, going to blitz to oblivion 😂

My poor Bear got stung by a wasp whilst he was asleep on his morning walk with daddy!

He's being so brave though bless him, still his normal high energy self and all smiles... My poor baby 🥺🥺

Fuck wasps!

September 2024 - Thread 11
WinsandSam · 20/08/2025 22:02

Oh poor boy @SpicyMoth hope he’s doing ok.
on the face too 😭 I despise wasps so much!!! Am pretty scared but having to face my fears as one landed on Ruby’s hand. Also scared of spiders and daddy long legs and it’s almost the season for them 😳

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 21/08/2025 17:30

@SpicyMoth poor boy, that would have been painful!! We're in full blown hurricane season where I live and the mosquitoes are GIANT. They will bite you even through trousers. No amount of mosquito spray keeps them away from my DS, poor thing hasn't been outside for a week now (we take him places but only indoors) as he has EIGHT bites on his face from one morning walk and one midday trip to the pool when we thought we were safe. They swell up really badly too.

And he is turning 1 next week and we have professional photos booked 😂😂

He's suddenly walking on his own. Got up one day and RAN to the kitchen. Had a bruise between his eyes within half an hour. Safe to say we are exhausted 😂 he's sleeping a lot better though!!

SpicyMoth · 24/08/2025 13:49

Sorry for the late reply ladies!
Within 24 hours the sting was entirely unnoticeable - such a brave boy 🥺

Oh my gosh, EIGHT mosquito bites?!!! The poor lovey, I'd be sooo grumpy if that were me. SO ITCHY!
Hope wee ones doing okay with them, its got to be so hard not to scratch or rub at them </3
