@TripleESept24 you sure it's not teething? I would be tempted to give Calpol. My baby's naps get thrown off when teething.

WinsandSam · 17/06/2025 21:23

@TripleESept24must be something up, poor little thing. I’d just cuddle her to sleep. Might be pain or just needing comfort

TripleESept24 · 17/06/2025 21:24

@HuggingAnIcePack887 we still have no teeth so could be! She's just woke up now again crying 😭 gonna give her some now I think

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 17/06/2025 21:39

@TripleESept24 oh yeah, when mine started, I couldn't figure it out for a while, he was so inconsolable, waking up, short naps, moody....we have 8 teeth so now I know the signs! (it starts with him randomly biting my nipple....).

The next ones are the canines for us and those are super super painful apparently

TripleESept24 · 17/06/2025 21:44

@HuggingAnIcePack887 Gave her some Calpol a little belly rub and has gone back off 🤞

kc92 · 17/06/2025 21:51

@TripleESept24 poor Esme! Sounds like teeth are making an appearance. Bonjela baby is brilliant too I find.

I think I might be in the minority but I really love cuddling mine to sleep. Even if it takes ages I pop my watch on & get joy racking the steps up. 😂 We've only just transitioned our 3 year old from cuddling to sleep to sitting by his bed, & I already miss it. Unfortunate necessity because he & his brother send each other into peals of laughter if they're too close to each other at bedtime.

TripleESept24 · 18/06/2025 08:05

After the Calpol she slept through just woke up just before 8am!! X

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 18/06/2025 11:24

@kc92 no, I love cuddling mine to sleep, I often don't want to put him down. I've woken him up a couple of times because i couldn't help myself from kissing his sleepy face. It's the cuddling to sleep at 11, 2am, 3.30am, 5am that is just a bit too much 😂

WinsandSam · 18/06/2025 16:10

@kc92im a cuddle to sleep mumma… well feed to sleep. She used to be rocked but hates it now so I’ll take what I can get

TripleESept24 · 18/06/2025 17:57

I barely get any cuddles anymore 😭 she just wants to be down on the floor alllllll the time and she just doesn't sit on your lap at alllll even at bedtime after a bottle

Decaffe · 18/06/2025 18:06

Hi all! Co-sleeping, contact napping and feeding to sleep here 😁

He’s a big lad, over the 80th percentile with a big heavy head, too. Nowhere near crawling - doesn’t like being on his tummy so not sure how he’s ever going to do it to be honest! Finally got the hang of rolling but isn’t really keen on it - again as it means being on his tummy!

He’s able to say da-da and ya-ya and buh-buh but I wondered what the frequency of this is for everyone else? It seems that when he’s teething or otherwise not having a good day that the babbling takes a step back? 🤔

His favourite activity seems to be smiling at himself in the mirror 😂

@Decaffe Esme is 9 months tomorrow. She says dada. But won't copy you or say it on demand she just says it when she's in a babbling mood! But yes she has days where she is super vocal and some days where she's not so much!

She loves clapping too and will sometimes do that on demand especially to "YAYYYY" but also just starts doing it out of the blue 🤣

She's obsessed with TV remotes. 😬 All the toys but give her a remote and it keeps her happy for ages!

She's pushing herself right up on her feet now looking like she's trying to stand!! Mad!!

WinsandSam · 22/06/2025 21:47

@TripleESept24the tv remotes are #1 toys in this house too! So much so we have given her a broken one with no batteries in 😂 she takes it out with her.. I know other babies who take out whisks so why not 🤪

I've done the same!! She's not silly tho, she sees that it doesn't change the channel and wants the one I have 🤣

WinsandSam · 25/06/2025 20:07

@TripleESept24oh yes!! THEY KNOW EVERYTHING 😂

TripleESept24 · 25/06/2025 21:40

Esme has really gone off dinner time...... She eats breakfast and lunch really well but when it comes to dinner she's turning pretty much everything away! 😭 So she's just having a bath bottle and bed ..... Anyone else's gone a bit fussy or not so great at certain times!?

kc92 · 26/06/2025 22:05

@TripleESept24 same here, mine has gone picky at dinner time! He has started staying up until 10pm out of no where (though he's sleeping much better so I'm not complaining!) & prefers to have a little snacky snack around 9 instead.

Baby is 9&1/2 months now and I think we'll have a walker soon! He's pulling to stand off absolutely everything, and trying to do it without holding on now. He's gotten up to two seconds before plunking down. He's officially mastered saying DaDa, which my DH is telling absolutely everyone, and his brother is still his favourite person. He's in hysterics any time he looks at him, and wants to be involved in every single game he plays - I am tired from being referee. 🤣 He doesn't really have any favourite toy, just whatever his brother is playing with. I was so worried about having two (I have complicated sibling relationships!) but it's been such a relief to see how much they genuinely like each other.

We're all smothered with head colds this week, but I'm feeling so grateful for this little love bubble we're still in. Feel like it's going to pop when I'm back to work, but trying to stay optimistic!

TripleESept24 · 05/07/2025 10:05

Has everyone's little ones got teeth? Esme will be 10 months in a couple of weeks and still no teefies!!

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 05/07/2025 13:10

@TripleESept24 yeah, we have 8 teeth here, all before 8 months. Everyone comments on how many teeth he has, i think he's very much on the early side. Teething was an absolute bitch for us but some babies aren't bothered by it so it's hard to say how it will go for you.

I've started taking him to more play groups and soft play as he's climbing and cruising etc.....and he got hand foot and mouth. I think I have PTSD now. I didn't think parenting could get harder but this has been hands down the worst week of my life. Poor thing was covered in sores, head to toe, slept about 4 hours per night, and just cried in agony for days. Just screamed and screamed and luckily was still breastfeeding as he refused everything else. Nurofen helped a bit, calpol was a waste. GP said we're lucky he's not refusing the boob because with such severe symptoms they'll usually refuse that too and end up in hospital. He finally felt a bit better yesterday (day 5) and today he's back to being super happy. And guess what? Now I bloody have it!!! Not surprising since he sneezed in my face about 100 times 😂 although I seem to have a much milder version than him, thank god.

SpicyMoth · 05/07/2025 13:52

Its been a while, but finally able to post again!

So we ended up having the holiday from hell going down south to visit DH's dad in Sussex.

About a week before we went, Bear cut his first teeth! Two at once, poor man was really struggling with them too - refused to go in his cot to sleep at all and still refused the whole time on holiday.

The plane ride down to Sussex was smooth for him luckily, just slept the whole way, but it was unbelievably hot, we were all melting before we even arrived, then when we get there it was right at the start of a massive heatwave - DFiL didn't prepare for us at all, no toys, no safety, only 2 days worth of food, and put us in the highest, hottest, and smallest room of the house - it was so hot we ended up sleeping on the living room floor one level below (3 story house) just to get a little bit of cool and even then it was still sweltering.

Then I got a nasty bug off the plane and entirely lost my voice, ended up paying to get flights home after 5 days rather than the original 9 we'd planned.
I spent entire holiday stuck inside, alone with Bear in front of a fan as we couldn't go out at all, DFiL held Bear a total of 4 times for about 5 minutes each if that, and spent more time smoking or upstairs than he did with his own son, let alone grandson.
DH spent most of the time asleep or smoking with his dad, so I dealt with a teething baby and the small handful of toys we could fit in our luggage alone and sick lol - on, and they had no Internet, so no telly, so I couldn't even stick on some Bluey for a break here or there lol

Utterly miserable time, total waste of money honestly - DH doesn't even want to see his dad again until they make the effort to come and see us first now.

Then we get back and DH catches the bug, so we're all sick as parrots and, of course, Bear cuts his 3rd tooth!

We've only just now all fully recovered, and Bears only just started getting back into his Cot.
We got back on the 25th, so its been a looking miserable one for us hahah

TLDR; Bear now has 3 teeth and caught his first cold

Oh! He also learnt to crawl whilst on holiday, so that was fun with 3 flights of stairs and no baby gate :')

TripleESept24 · 05/07/2025 16:26

@HuggingAnIcePack887 8 teeth! Wow! 🫶 And oh my goodness!! My older daughter had hand foot and mouth when she was about 6/7 and it was AWFUL 😭 can't even imagine how he felt must have been awful!!

@SpicyMoth and 3 teeth! I think Esme's gonna be unfortunate and get loads coming through at once! Hope it doesn't affect her too much!! And that does sound like a NIGHTMARE so sorry your trip was a waste of time and you got a bug 😭 we are going to Cornwall end of July to see all of our family and I can't WAIT to get esme on the beach and feet in the sea!

Esme has been crawling since 8 months, she's now standing it's her new obsession. Stands at everything and trying to let go 😭😭😭 when she wakes in her cot she just stands up and shouts until we go in 🤣

Was just talking to my mum about your Esme and she said not to worry too much as when she was little she was full blown talking with no teeth!

Around 2 years old, walking and talking and no teeth apparently!
They were there, just very slow to come through haha - seems bonkers to me but everyone sprout gnashers at their own pace I suppose 😂😊

Lolllll 🤣 poor thing I think she wants to really get chomping on some things and she struggles she loves cucumber but not very good with it

kc92 · 08/07/2025 21:19

@TripleESept24 what a cutie! My friends baby had all their teeth come through at once at 15 months. They came out of order too funnily enough! But her smile is beautiful now, and they only had to deal with a few, albeit intense, weeks of teething.

@HuggingAnIcePack887 my firstborn had 8 at this stage as well! This baba on the other hand is not quick at cutting them. 🥲 I can see the total outline of his top teeth but the gum just won't pop away.

@SpicyMoth that sounds like the holiday from hell. 😳 Well done you for leaving early! Hard to have boundaries with family, but even reading about the smoking gave me the ick. How are you feeling now, and how are the meds going for the hypothyroidism?

Is anyone else still on mat leave? Or planning to be a SAHM? My DH told me he'd make it work if I wanted too, and at the time I said a firm no as I've worked too hard for my career. But now as it looms closer I'm feeling wistful!! Logically, terrible decision. Emotionally, I want to stay with my babies! Almost looking forward to ripping the bandage off at this stage.
