@HuggingAnIcePack887ive thought about how I’ll cope. Like you, I imagine I’ll be having some sick days. I’m a nurse so wouldn’t be safe. Well, they can’t expect us to just get back on with it or work to capacity. We’re burnt out

kc92 · 06/06/2025 15:43

@HuggingAnIcePack887 the longest I had ever gone without a promotion / pay rise before my first pregnancy was 6 months. It's now been 4 years. 🫠 I went back on DS1 at 9 months & incredibly sleep deprived. I basically ate dirt professionally from it, whereas my DH's career has excelled from having me home with the kids on mat leave & handling life admin.

@WinsandSam I wish there was more understanding of working mums! But in every management course I've been on, the emphasis is always how to ensure organisational productivity - employee well-being is only cared about enough to keep staff turnover low.

WinsandSam · 06/06/2025 22:02

@kc92its sad really!! We really are punished 1) for being female and 2) having a baby…

PinkWatermelon88 · 07/06/2025 14:34

Has anyone been on holiday yet? We go next week and km nervous! Small lady is very active and alllmmmooosssttt crawling so doesn’t want to sit in our laps any more. She lives on her padded floor mat, any ideas for what I could bring pool side? Need something with padding as she’s still very prone to face planting 😂 and for food too? I’ll bring pouches and obviously mash what I can but she’s still not quite at the stage of having the same food as us, ideas? Thank you! ❤️

We're going on "holiday" on the 18th!
Holiday for us, but not an overseas one, we're flying from Scotland to South of England to see Hubby's family and we're very nervous too - Food wise have you tried to offer her more solid things like slices of peeled soft pear or banana or peaches etc? - Bear has been doing BLW for probably a month now and to be honest he loves the independence!

He'll still have pouches every now and then just as we have loads in the cupboard we don't want to go to waste, but he really does thrive with self feeding.

If you're a bit unsure with more solid things like fruit, I'd try a thick Wheatabix slop - Bear's on a whole wheatabix every morning for breakfast with only a splash of milk, if it's too runny he won't eat it, has to be thick!

__

On another note, Bear's also finally cut two teeth today! Two bottom ones!! AHHH!!!
He was biting my boob yesterday and it really hurt, so I just randomly thought to check today whilst mum was over, and lo and behold - TWO!
TWO whole gnashers peaking through!!
It's such a weird feeling, it's like on one hand, FINALLY, but on the other hand, my baby boy is growing, please stop and stay tiny forever! :') <3

TripleESept24 · 08/06/2025 12:05

@HuggingAnIcePack887 I feel you re the work!! I manage a private client team at an insurance brokers and I feel burnt out sometimes and like there is no incentive at the moment to go in and really focus on new business and moving forward it's just get in and get renewals etc done 😭

@SpicyMoth Yay! Two teeth!! We still don't have any here they've got to be coming tho I'm adamant 🤣 she's been really whingey the last few days!!

We had a big poonami this morning not had one of those for ages! Took her out of her seat and she felt damp unzipped the baby grow and it was all down the leg and on her feet 🤮 straight in the bath!!

Esme watched Ms Rachel for the first time yesterday and has now decided she wants to clap all the time!! After me trying to get her to do it for ages 🤣

kc92 · 08/06/2025 19:39

@PinkWatermelon88 & @SpicyMoth jealous of your holidays!! I crave one with my very soul right now. We moved into our forever house the week baba was born, & will be sinking all our money into it for the foreseeable future. Happy complaint but I could use some sun!

Second the Weetabix suggestion. Or ready break, so handy when you're away from home. For snacks, my DS loves a tsp of nut butter too, and you don't need to refrigerate it. He loves to have clementine pieces or banana when we're on the go & they keep well in nappy bags. Yogurts or cheese slices are what I pick up from the shop when I've forgotten to bring anything out with us.

For poolside, do you have a travel cot you could bring down with you from the hotel room?

@SpicyMoth congratulations on the teeth 🎉 our babies are getting so big now!! Officially 9 months out for me, and I feel like I've blinked and missed it. Mine looks so different from when he was born, and he looks so boyish now. He was a massive chunk of a baby, and he's really stretched out.

@TripleESept24 yay for the clapping!! I've been trying to teach mine so I might stick on YouTube tomorrow.

Sleep is getting a little better here! I got a 4 hour and then 3 hour stretch last night. 🙌🏻 Only problem is he has decided he's a late night pooper now, so he's not going down to bed until 10-11.

WinsandSam · 09/06/2025 20:19

@TripleESept24the miss Rachael thing is hilarious!! Ruby has started watching in last couple of weeks and claps like crazy 😂 also waving hello and goodbye now too. Cute 🥰

@kc92great news on the sleep improvements. I think ours are getting a little better too and waking maybe 3-4 x a night from 9-7ish.. for some that’d be terrible but I feel fresh from it 😂

kc92 · 09/06/2025 21:21

I might be too cross because the only hand signal my DS does is point. 😂 I feel like I'm a referee between my boys for half the day tbh, constantly trying to direct them away from each other! Baby belted his brother in the nose with a plastic stacking toy yesterday, and nearly gave him a nose bleed. Then got body slammed by an over enthusiastic 3 year old hug. 😅

& @WinsandSam I feel you on that!! Described my night's sleep to a friend recently and they were horrified. Even more so when I said "no, no, no that's good!" Baby is feeding at around 11, 3 & 6 at the moment. I can survive that! I need it to get a little better before my DH's July trip though.

WinsandSam · 09/06/2025 21:26

@kc92its so funny that people think 4 wakes a night is bad. Whereas we’re cracking on with life sometimes waking 7 times 😂 I have people moaning to me when baby wakes once or twice a night.. I struggle to have empathy as now I am also a psychopath from sleep deprivation

kc92 · 09/06/2025 21:42

@WinsandSam my DH thinks I'm a sociopath because after bad nights I start the day by singing the 'good day' song at the top of my lungs. I cannot sing. I cannot song-write. This is an entire original, sung to the tune of the family guy theme tune. "We're going to have a good day! We're going to have a great day! We're going to have a super DS1 name and wonderful DS2 name day!!! I sing it until I don't feel dead inside.

TripleESept24 · 09/06/2025 22:11

@WinsandSam we have also had waving start today!! She's ever so pleased with herself and claps after 🤣🤣🤣

And the crawling my gosh!! She is soooooo fast now 🙈 the fun has really began!!

WinsandSam · 10/06/2025 06:51

@kc92we have officially lost the plot 🤪

@TripleESept24so cute!!! We haven’t mastered crawling (thank god.) That sounds tough… think we’re going straight to walking. Will take steps holding our fingers

kc92 · 12/06/2025 11:21

Baby took his first steps along furniture yesterday! I was convinced he was going to crack himself off the tiles & sprinted across the kitchen in record time, but he did so good 💪🏻

Now if he would just stop practicing his skills in his sleep it'd be dreamy. @SpicyMoth does the travel cot trick still work for you? Think I'm going to pick one up at the weekend as he's constantly pulling at the crib / bouncing off it in the last few weeks.

We were trying to gently night wean to improve sleep, and it works 3.5/7 nights I'd say. But my DH was on nights this week & I had a cute little menty B from being knackered this morning. So he's taking baby this evening & we're cold turkeying the feeds for a few nights. 😞 I wanted it to be a gentle experience for him, but my mind cannot take the wakes anymore, alongside a wild 3 yr old. If this doesn't work, going to try the Lucy Wolfe method or Ferber. Not really what I wanted to do but I think I have to be realistic about the effects of a snappy stressed mum on my boys.

Yep, travel cot still working!
Its not perfect by any means, we still have 2-3 night wakes, slightly more now teething - but that's a dream compared to the 8-10 night wakes we had before! Hahaha
Best of luck - and grateful on the walking!!! Ahhhh, so exciting! ♡

TripleESept24 · 16/06/2025 21:59

What's everyone's babies doing now nap wise in the day? Esme had still been having 2......late morning/midday then another short one about 4pm..... But bedtime the last 4/5 nights have turned into a nightmare! I don't know if it could be a combination of the heat! And maybe teeth..... But she's always gone to sleep herself in her cot once put down. These last few nights she screams and screams when I put her to bed. Thinking of cutting her afternoon nap and trying to see if she will just have one longer one around midday..... 😭

WinsandSam · 16/06/2025 22:08

@TripleESept24generally we’re on 2 naps a day- usually around 9/10am for the first. 2ish for the 2nd. Then maybe a 3rd if out and about. Getting her to sleep is HARD work now. I used to feed to sleep and it took 5 mins. Bosh, all done. Now it can take 5-50 mins and she feeds, rolls away, rolls back and forth, feeds, cries, shakes her head, rolls some more… it goes on and on. I’m thinking it’s an age thing as she wants to walk and is learning new skills daily

Yeh we are on 2 naps a day but hers are later because she doesn't get up till a bit later..... She's only just settled now about 10pm.
It is hard work especially being back at work because I'm tired too and wanna go bed early!

Yeh she's well on the move crawling and standing at the furniture, she just rolls around in her cot going crazy at night! She doesn't on the day time naps tho!! Weird 😭

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 16/06/2025 22:44

We've been on 2 naps since 6.5 months. Wake up 6.30 am, first nap 9.30 am (1.5 hours) and second nap around 2.30pm for 45 minutes. Bedtime around 7-7.30pm.

I found when I let him have a lie in and delayed the afternoon nap till 3.30/4pm, it really fucked bedtime. And if he goes to bed past 8pm he wakes up waaaay earlier than he should.

TripleESept24 · 17/06/2025 12:11

She slept right through and didn't wake until 8.30am this morning. She went for a nap at 11.40 im going to just leave her and see how long she sleeps!!

Only had just over an hour. So can't see her not having another especially in this heat!

kc92 · 17/06/2025 14:13

Pretty much the same schedule here as @HuggingAnIcePack887 here, though our afternoon nap is about 1.5 hours too. I try have him up from any naps by 3pm, or he treats bedtime as 3rd nap time. Let him sleep longer yesterday & he didn't go down until 22.30.🫠

We have had an amazing few days of night time sleep, and I feel reborn! The fog is lifting!! Dream feeding him at half 10 when I go to bed, and then I've been toddling off to the spare room & leaving my DH resettle until half 4ish. Quick feed and he sleeps through to half 6. 🙌🏻 The first night he did cry, but my DH was comforting him until he fell asleep again, and every night since then has been an improvement. Last night he didn't wake at all between half 10 & 4. (I really hope I'm not jinxing this!!)

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 17/06/2025 16:16

@kc92 oh I cut his morning nap at 1.5 hours and afternoon nap at 45mins -1 hour, otherwise bedtime is too late, and I find he wakes up very early. We've done it on ocasion so we could go out on an evening for Father's Day etc and regretted it each time. We'd have a nice chill day and late evening and then be woken up at 11pm, 2am,4am, 5am and 5.30 am up for the day.

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 17/06/2025 16:17

Anyone else's back giving in? My boy wants to walk everywhere but can only do it if I help him. I should have had this baby at 22, not 37 😂

My parents want to come take care of him for a few days and I don't think they're fit enough 😅

TripleESept24 · 17/06/2025 20:32

So..... We had NO SECOND NAP! she wouldn't go down!! So she's had her dinner, had a bath and gone to bed! She just went down at 8.15pm and screamed for ten mins and has now stopped and asleep!! She must be exhausted!!

She's just become really bad at going down in the cot all of a sudden! Never been like this before 😭 we are going to leave her cry it out for 10 mins and see what happens. It's worked tonight 🤞 hopefully she will go back to going down well!

@HuggingAnIcePack887 my back is SO PAINFUL. However I'm having an ultrasound on Thursday I'm not convinced mine is muscular it feels like kidneys but the pain when bending down to pick her up is excruciating
